Apparently Roczen has 47 SMX wins according to the broadcast 🤷‍♂️

Some stuff on Chase that the broadcast didn’t talk about much …or at all.  2nd Moto Chase crossed the hole shot line in 11th.  He was 3rd after the first lap with 6 of those passes on other factory riders….on a track they said was 1 line for much of it and hard to pass. Jett crossed in 16th.  When Jett had a clear track he still could not make up time on Chase and Chase did exactly what Jett did outdoors ….managed the gap and kept him 4 to 6.5 seconds back.  When Jett ran a fast lap Chase stepped it up and ran a faster lap.  Maybe….just maybe…we crowned Jett the man, which he is outdoors, before he ever ran a SX race on a 450 ….and dismissed the 450 SX Champion.  I could be wrong but…..Chase is going to win the SMX Championship.

"Chase is going to win the SMX Championship"

That's a bold claim, especially with the points being so biased toward the last race!

If Chase were to win Joliet then he only needs to take third, if Jett won, in L.A. even with it being triple points.  Chase is top 3 speed on his slowest days.  Now…could he go down…yea, we know that could happen.  I just don’t think he will.  I think he wins this thing.  All jmho.

how can you say that with Jetts second moto effort when he almost ran down chase after passing every one else on the track and then to make a judgment call off that one selected 1st moto? we seen 23 races so far and the rookie has finally had 1 bad race and chase finally capitalized on it.

im not saying Jetts going to win.. but i don't think its a great assumption to say Chase is going to clean sweep.

personally Jett set the bar so high for himself after outdoors, anything less then a win and we all write him off

It’s the first SX style race we have seen Jett on the 450.  MX and SX history is littered with some that were good at only one….and some of those did great at SX on 250s.  Dylan won 2 250 SX and 1 450 MX…yet one of the factors that has cost him from getting a new contract is it did not translate to a 450 SX title.  The most important title in the sport most would say.  So how about Jett wins 1 450 SX style race before we scratch Jeremy McGrath’s name off the SX record sheet.
.

.and you are flat out wrong about Jett running Chase down.  Watch the race again and look at the time gap.  He did NOT run him down.

.

and when did I say Chase was going to have a clean sweep??  I just said I think he will win the SMX title.  I even gave an example on how he wins it by not sweeping.  Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good argument.

It’s not like Jett is barely competent at supercross.  He did 17 races in ‘22 and ‘23 250SX.  Won 10 and not once finished off the podium.

He did close the gap to Chase on Sat, from memory it was about 8-9 secs and got it down to 4, but yes he didn’t catch him.

Well….your memory sucks then.  It was basically 4 second gap, give or take a tiny amount, the whole race and 6 seconds at the end.  When Jett ran a fast lap Chase would lay down a faster lap.  He basically did what Jett did to him outdoors…but I’m sure you were praising Jett for doing an amazing job managing the races.  I’m done arguing because you are going to make shit up.

and Jett had an amazing 250 SX career…so have others and not won a 450 title.  I would not bet against Jett winning a title..but I’m going to hold off until he wins a damn 450 SX race.  I’m just giving Chase his due for having Jett covered last weekend…as opposed to the Jett can do no wrong and really won even though he didn’t crowd.

was 8 seconds behind and sitting in 8th place at 17mins. finished 2nd with 4 second gap..

and i said "almost" i know chase was the better rider the day and had it in the bag. was the opposite of what we seen all outdoors.

My whole conversation though is around moto 2 showed Jett is still just as good and we are going to see some battles all season around Sexton and Jett.

I wouldn't write Jett off for SX after 1 bad race on a hybrid track. And the fact that every one expects Jett to win in his rookie season should speak enough volume

Keep in mind, Jett is on the longest losing streak he has ever experienced on a 450. Honda may be looking for a new rider! (sarcasm).....

Hold up...just so I understand this correctly, are you suggesting that after watching Charlotte you have deducted that Jett isn't good at SX on a 450?

What I watched suggested that he is pretty amazing on a 450 at SX.

To suggest otherwise is asinine.

Read what I said.  In no way did I say he would not be good at SX.  I said how about we wait till he wins 1 SX on a 450 before we crown him king.  …and I was giving Chase his due…something the Jett worshipers seem to have trouble doing.  The quote you put up is so true.  Look at the list of 250 SX winners and then look at the 450 winners.  Think of all the names that were supposed to be the next generational talent.  Do I think Jett will be good at SX on a 450?  Yes…do I think he will dominate like MX?  No.  Will he win the SMX title?  I’m going with Chase.  Will Jett win the next SX title…maybe.  Will he win some SX titles…probably.  How about he wins 1 fucking Supercross race on a 450 before you crown him.  SX and MX often don’t reflect each other….meaning that dominating in outdoors doesn’t necessarily mean he will dominate indoors.  I happen to think he will not dominate as he did in MX.  I think his riding style is as good as we have ever seen for outdoors.  As for SX??  We’ll see.  Clear enough??

I’m also giving Chase credit for having won the 450 SX title this year.  Something many people seem to forget.

I agree with everything said.

But i think Chase hasn't exactly gotten much love from his SX title purely off the way he won it. not taking anything away. because Chase really is a freak of nature and is the SX champ.

But i think the way he won SX and then to go outdoors with so much hype around him after his last years outdoor efforts, then Jetts dominance as a rookie... it took a lot of light away from sexton.

don't expect Jett to win everything and be the King. He's a rookie. should be treated how every other rookie is.. But i do believe its going to be a battle all year between Jett and Sexton. And most likely repeat threads and conversations each week about the 2 riders.

Agreed….and I hope Eli comes back healthy and ready and makes it a 3-way.   errr…I mean 3- way battle in SX.

…and it does bother me when people what if for other riders misfortunes on the title.  If we take everybody’s bad luck away from the SX season…Chase was the fastest rider.

i said at the end of the SX season. if it wasn't for sextons front end wash outs while leading with a few laps to go.. he would of won the title. no different to Tomacs early career days against Dungey.

But yeah, the Whats ifs for a title.. annoy me hahaha.

Jett was racing a 450 in Supercross for the first time.. it's not a normal supercross track but it's basically more Supercross than anything.

In that second moto was in 16th at the start. A second or so away from being dead last.

On his way to a second place finish he passed the likes of Cooper Webb, Jason Anderson, Justin Barcia and Ken Roczen lwith relative ease and maintained about a 4 second gap with the 450 Supercross champion who had a better start than he did and has 3 seasons experience on a 450 in Supercross.

Chase was better obviously. Not sure anyone has said otherwise to be honest. But the gap in how they were riding was pretty massive in the first moto and was minimal in the second. Maybe Chase was managing the lead, but considering he has never done that before I wouldn't expect he is starting now. But that's beside the point. In one day of Supercross Jett improved an incredible amount on the very day to be not that far behind Chase. That's incredible.

Jetts first moto was poor by the expectations people have for him, but even then 7th in his first race which at a normal Supercross event (which his first racce would have been a heat race) is not even that bad really. Split the field between heats and he's probably 3rd to 5th in his first ever heat race on a 450. But even a 7th in the heat is straight to the main. Second place on debut in a supercross is an incredible first race. Even without factoring in the poor start and who he had to pass to get there.

Chase deserves to be the favorite for the 2024 SX title. Jett is going to be in the equation though too. He has shown that he can get bad starts and work his way through a pretty decent field already. So unless he crashes out for a DNF or gets an injury, it's not looking like he will throw away too many points.

I don't get why only one rider can be considered impressive? Chase was better. Jett was pretty good too. We're in for an amazing Supercross series. Tomac returning IMO will have the racing look like it did in the CR, RC and JS days. Where the podium is usually the same and only the order changes.

I wonder if this track will play to Jett’s hand, looks more MX than SX with no rhythm lane and high speeds

I sorta had the opposite view.  The high speed tracks with fewer technical sections probably narrow the gap and don’t really allow Jett to exploit his technique advantage.

Not that he’s slow by any means but lots of guys can hold the throttle pinned on long straights.

End of the day, Jett will be 2024 450SX champion. I'll have my gallon of Jergens with me every race anxiously awaiting Jetts next shirtless podium interview. Its gonna be a great season.

Fair enough to everything you said…I just took issue with the comment that Jett was running down Chase when the gap said otherwise.  Chase had him covered so they should just give him that credit.  Maybe Chase learned something from Jett in the outdoors on managing a lead and maybe that helps him washout less….who knows?.  Also….Chase passed those same factory riders with the same ease as Jett…so….here’s to hoping it is a kick ass SX season…and the rest of SMX for that matter.  I do sort of think the Chicago track will be Jett’s best for these three races.  It will be fun to watch as SMX has already been more exciting than most outdoor races this summer.  All jmho.

…and StillSmokin……way way way way way way way way way way tmi!

I’m pretty sure settings held Jett back yesterday and he will be back on top. Chase better make the most of the next 2 rounds on the Honda. He’ll have a lot of testing to do with the KTM before he is at his current speed..

Looks like settings were a little better for Jett tonight. So good he could calculate points and give Kenny a little gift.
