SMX Track layout terrible for passing

The barriers limited the options in the track design imo . 

I agree 100% and as soon as I saw the track knew it was 1 lined. When the 2 Lawrence brothers couldn’t pass its 1 lined .

Seemed like lots of passing all day.  🤷‍♀️

Anderson made some killer passes. Seems like certain riders always find a way to pass. 

I don't too much like these tracks without whoops. Felt like the only separator was fitness, everybody was running close to the same laps until they got tired then dropped off a bit

People were passing Jett, so what does that mean?
 

When Jett was comfortable on his bike 2nd moto, he moved up from 11th to 2nd and the guys he passed surely weren’t going slow. Chase went from 6th to 1st 2nd moto. Roczen and Jett were battling at the start of moto 1 around 9th and Roczen went forward to 3rd without Jett. Hunter started dead last both motos after going crashing on lap 1 each race but still worked his way into the top 10. 
 

Yeah it’s tough to make passes when everyone is close in speed and there isn’t a clear separator obstacle like big whoops but there were passes being made by plenty of guys in multiple sections. Split lane, quads in the rhythm, Deegan was making passes in the sand, the flat rutted corners had multiple lines that Shimoda took advantage of to pass into the lead, for example. Jett even made a pass on the hip double by slicing inside Kenny. It raced a lot better than what I was anticipating and I think it’s because even though it was tough to make a pass, there were multiple lines that allowed it happen if you really wanted to make a pass.

Agree. I didn't see guys getting held up at all, at least on the TV broadcast

I hate the “one lined” excuse. It’s soft. 

And OP is a guy in AU, funny how that works out when the boys from down under don't win, then the track is one lined and hard to pass.

Big let down for the 1st playoff race . Might have been better at a outdoor track with some sx sprinkled in. 

Wife and I were seated in the middle of the rhythm section (right grandstand). Saw a ton of passes through that section, and the long sweeper at the end of it.

How many passes took place in the split lanes? 

Lots of passing going on by those who were capable. Little Joe just about dragged bars in the flat 180 sweeper to take the lead. 

Yeah Jett had open track when he moved into 3rd with Chase in sight 2nd moto. The track didn't stop him from winning

I’d agree somewhat for the first motos. But the track seemed quite slippery to start with. Once it dried out a little and the lines developed more for the second motos I think it raced quite well. Split starts & split lanes always feel a little gimicky, but given the space limitations it’s understandable. Even a short whoop section would have been nice though.

Split lane actually worked really well today.  Lots of passing there all day.  It was a killer track I thought.
