Anyone listen to pulp and a caller when Phil was, who questioned if be a great idea to do a doco series like F1 and gain more exposure to the sport. I agree 100% being from Australia never watched NFL but watched the doco and gained allot more respect and understanding to the sport, same with F1, free diving, mountain climbing and other I have watched on Netflix!
Be great to do this for our sport so people outside see the training, the injuries, the money and success some have made over time in our sport. But you need to delve into the ugly as well, with the drugs and the death our sport sees as that is what tells the people who don't know our sport how hard it is. Not juts kids riding a dirt bike.
Best suggestion I have heard on Pulp.
These docs have made country club sports like tennis and golf look interesting. Done right and an mx version would be very successful and sell a ton of bikes.
We had that with Inside The Outdoors series...In fact when I first saw Drive To Survive my first thought was that they watched Inside The Outdoors and stole the idea!
We had Red Bull MotoSpy before Drive to Survive came out, and it was very close to the same thing.
While I agree, the obviously flawed idea with doing this is getting everyone on board. This sport is so fucking bush league that it would never work. These teams think so highly of themselves that ego's would always get in the way. The people at the top running these teams think making a couple hundred grand a year running around fist bumping people makes them cool and important. They are big fish in a very small pond who would rather die in a dried up lake than share information that we as a viewer find interesting and engaging.

I never followed F1 until I watched Drive to Survive, the PGA tour and Quarterback versions were pretty interesting too.
It does make those sports more relatable to me, being able to see behind the scenes and get to "know" the people a little more.
Moto is not as big ratings wise, but it would probably be a fraction of the budget to produce compared to F1, so hopefully some producer takes a chance to do a "Ride to survive" type series and get Netflix to air it.
Troy did that and was stone walled by sponsors and teams unwilling to see the bigger picture.
Do you think it is the same depth as the netflix doco's? I don't like I said me and my wife addicted to them of all sports found the NFL real interesting as didn't know the qtr back had so much to do with plays and remembering everything etc. Imagine going into Tomac background his dad, Masterpool and what his family have been through, Jett, cooper, Nelson you need all the bad with the good the real life exposure of a day to day following.
And as Phil said Feld needs to fund it so Redbull can't say no Monster or vice verse etc etc.
Sponsors sharing the spotlight is probably biggest hurdle.
Anything done previously that wasn't on major streaming platform doesn't count. It's not the same thing.
The mxgp series is very good.
The dipshits in charge of these teams would need to have a real wake up call to even consider getting something like this off the ground.
This sport (in regards to the team level) is seemingly ran by beyond egotistical people that can’t even fathom the idea of loosely banding together as it is. Could you imagine trying to get them to agree to allowing camera crews into the inner workings of a team? We get more insight into F1, which generates millions upon millions of dollars!
Then there is a subset of fans that buy into that bullshit mentality. People here get pissed at Feld & MX Sports for slipping a fart and actively rooted for the downfall of WSX. Three groups that, believe it or not, want the industry to make money so they can make money.
MotoSpy was sick, but it was still ran by one of the largest corporate backers in the game. Grand exposure would take outside help, outside funding and a level of cooperation that is going to be hard to make happen.
MX doesn’t get nice things because when it does, it doesn’t treat them well. And until that changes, nothing does.
It's run by small minded individuals all protecting their one egg. Even if they could see the forest for the trees, they would still die when one fell on them. This is what happens when home schooled, I have a piece of the pie and I am not sharing no matter what anyone says people running the show think, not realizing one would eventually starve with that one slice.
I exclude Davey on this one because I know he can actually see the trees, but the sponsors can't. And Lars, that guy is no dummy.
I couldn’t agree more with all the posts you’ve made on this thread. It really is devolving into a sport ran by individuals who never left the bubble and it’s a bummer.
I love this sport like no other, but the small minded attitudes when push comes to shove will literally bury it.
I miss that series. It was good when it was Webb vs roczen

If you think that caller from a week ago was the first to come up with the idea of “copy ‘Drive to Survive’ but for moto” you haven’t been paying attention at all.

I’d love to see a series on a streaming platform. Just need someone to come up with a budget. To do it right, you’re looking at $50-$100k an episode. Cost is always going to be the hurdle.
Well…that was me on the call and I am hooked on F1 from their series drive to survive. I have been paying attention and have not heard it mentioned for our sport…but that doesn’t matter. When you look at the growth of the F1 fan base from that series you would have to be a fool not to do it for SX/MX………crickets…

Yes, but not on Netflix. YouTube isn’t going to grow the sport. Netflix would reach another audience. It would find people who aren’t looking for it.
I agree for the most part but Red Bull seem unusually good about Monster on their videos / series / edits.
The last handful I've watched from BMX to Motocross they've had a couple of dudes and one is in a Monster hat... Seemed very strange but it is what it is.
Plus if they were making a show about supercross it'll be impossible to filter out the Monster stuff, it is EVERYWHERE and said and shown on screen 84,000 times per race.

In fact....I reckon I'm gonna watch it again. It was so well done with the edits, the interviews, footage and an awesome era as well.
Growing the sport is over rated. And no one except vi-tards like us care about the inner workings anyway, no matter how much you dress it up
I got right into that series Racetrack Supercross. It was a team based around a ride from Ecuador and had Ryno involved as well. Even though the guys riding on the team were usually around 10-20 it had me really paying attention to where they were in the track.
Inside the outdoors was better and was produced during the period of time I stepped away from moto completely. It filled in those gaps very well
