Kid has the speed to be up there; he proved it. However, he dropped the anchor pretty soon in each moto. If he can step up his fitness and cardio, he's going to be a real title threat next year IMO. Could be a fun battle between him and Deegan.

Rooting for him!

I think he had a great year for a rookie, but like Weege said during the broadcast, Deegan came out firing so strong it overshadowed Ryder’s year. If you take Deegan out of the picture, he is the highest placing rookie in the points standings (10th).

Surprised PC let him go or get away.  Think he is KTM next season.

He'll be good, but next year it will be Jo, Deegan, Vialle and maybe Kitchen...  The year after?  It's going to be a free for all.

He seems like an awesome kid and obviously has a ton of talent. I know he wanted out of Kawi and I’m really wondering if it had more to do with how they handled his amateur to pro contract because the gas gas bikes seem like a little bit of a step down.

Whoever trains this kid physically should find something else to do, seriously. He starts good. He has good technique & form. Speed is pretty good, he had the fastest lap in moto 2 @ Ironman. But, man, the fitness is horrendous and hasn't improved one bit during the season...I think I picked him in my Pulp MX fantasy at Millville. Saw he was 4th in a moto and I was like, "I'm gonna max double points that moto"... He dropped bad and didn't even double point.  Also, he's gonna have to take more chances. He wasn't doing that prejump to get over the dip while most riders where doing it on saturday. You can't not do that at that level especially if 20 guys are doing it. Didn't look that hard nor that dangerous. There's an undeniable potential but he has to get to work and do something different (it's clearly not working) if he doesn't want the 2024 rookies to devour him

I would add Thrasher, Forkner, McAdoo and RJ in the mix too. This year was really stacked, hoping that for next year as well.

For a rider of his caliber I'm surprised it didn't work out with him in PC to me he has more potential than most on the current PC team obviously something is off with him I can't believe PC didn't try keep him, only speculating maybe he got burnt out during amateurs' or he has a lack of work ethic which does line up with his fades in outdoors.

Didn't he have a pretty bad wrist injury from training from Supercross?

Edit: he tore a ligament off his thumb in January.

Yeah I'm no pro and don't see the race like someone like you sees it. But his fitness seemed way off

I think he has been working with RV. I think it might also help next year on GasGas when he is only 1 of 2 250 riders on the team compared to being 1 out of 4-5 riders on PC. But yeah.. totally agree he needs to get his endurance up. Kid for sure has the potential.

His fitness is good, he said he wasn’t use to being there and was tense and holding his breath and his arms pumped up a bit. He’ll get there with experience

Damn, people forget its his rookie year or they are already used to extraordinary rookies like Deegan. I think it was pretty impressive to see that he didnt ride over his head, didnt take unnecessary risks and crash out (which is what a lot of these young kids do), also how he always rides his own race didnt let the pressure from behind bother him.

I agree with DV.

Ryder has great style but he is notorious amongst us fantasy players for fading. Heck, he holeshot both motos last weekend and went 9-6.

That aside, I think its a good signing by Gas Gas. Hes got the style, he just needs some more fitness and also growing into his man body over the next couple of years will help too. Will he be working with Wil Hahn on the fitness side?

Why do Vitards think the Gasgas isn't that good?

Very interesting interview by Ryder D after Unadilla.  He talks about how he feels about Deegan winning compared to his own performance. Gotta respect his honesty.
It starts at 7:10

Agree somewhat on the fitness, but not on taking more risks. The thing industry pundits always say is that teams should give riders more time to adapt without taking unnecessary risks. For someone with a history of injuries like him, the best thing is to ride his own race and make it through the year healthy. And the fitness issues, 100% that's a problem right now, but I think it's more mental than physical. I'm not talking about mental toughness but just mentally being comfortable being there. That's Deegan's biggest advantage. Deegan's team, and his dad in particular, have done such an amazing job of getting him comfortable belonging up front that he doesn't get nervous. From hearing their interviews, it doesn't seem Ryder is quite there yet mentally which might be causing him to get tight and tire out faster.

I'm just happy to see him finish the season healthy and hope he does well in the SMX playoffs.

A statistic that doesn't support this well is out of 22 motos this year, he only finished better than his first lap position twice. In two motos he DNF'd...so in 18 motos, he finished worse than where he was on lap one.

Washougal moto two he rounded the first lap in fifteenth and finished the moto in twelfth.

Unadilla moto one he rounded the first lap in tenth and finished the moto in ninth.

Being fit and having muscle are not the same. These kids are so small coming out of the amateur ranks it seems.

He was nervous every single moto of the year?

Edit: Didnt read to the bottom. Didnt mean to pile on.

But visually his fitness was bad and didnt get better to the eye. Luckily for him, he has speed and we can work with that. With some fitness, (which is completely up to him), he can be at the top and stay there.
