I wish they could hold the race every 2-3 years instead of every year. I feel like that would make more riders and countries interested in racing the event.

Just my opinion. It's sad that the greatest country in the world has this weird attitude (both fans and riders) towards the MXoN, when they are capable of winning they are all in, but if winning odds are somewhat lower, excuses are everywhere. Shit, we have this thing only once a year. And it's just sad to see when riders turn down the invite to represent their country. In other countries if they get invited they go no matter what, even if it's just to maaaybe qualify atleast to A finals.

). The US has by far the largest moto industry with the most money yet they complain about the cost any time the mxon is held outside of the US. Countries with a moto industry a fraction of the size of the US turn up every year for the honour to represent their country
Every year when the US is unable to send its best team a few knobs throw this out there.
The majority of them are Euro based (not Australia) and also many countries get a subsidy from their government, the US doesn't.
And by the way I disagree with everything the OP is saying including him not calling the race by it's proper name...MXDN

I think they do and back then it was different. There is no help from the FIM or more importantly In Front. Without the US, they have the same riders as the rest of the year. 9 times out of 10 it is in Europe so the travel is huge and our riders race both SX and MX whereas those guys only do MXGP, so rest is an issue with nearly double the events. If there was a strong payday for the riders or at least something it would be more desirable in my opinion.

Yeah they are pretty hollow arguments.
Because I think people will be very surprised when they see just how far off the pace the guys were this year. Jett’s season was incredible but minus Sexton, the AC, JA, Pless, Webb, JB pack would struggle to be top 7 in the current GP field which isn’t even at top form either. Plessinger was almost a minute behind today while running 3rd. They are nowhere near.
I always root for USA to win, and will be again this year, but I can easily see a similar year to when Seely, Covington and Osborne went. Disaster. I pray I’m wrong because I can’t stand it around here when USA struggles.
You can’t always win. Those years when you can’t or probably won’t, the suggestion that you don’t even bother turning up is extremely piss poor form.
It's not the cost. The US has the money to send three riders and a fucken huge entourage to support them....
It's the grind of going through a long season of SX, the outdoors and now SMX. Riders and especially the mechanics / crew are worn out by the end of the US series.
These guys look forward to a small break before the testing and preparation for the next season's SX starts which always kicks off the first weekend of Jan.
The MXGP dudes only start their series in the middle of March and the finish in Sep. They get 5 months off before their main series kicks off again.
The top athletes in the US are almost always long in the tooth to travel overseas. I can sympathize with the predicament of fatigue, living out of bags and the time involved at getting it all together. They are giving up much needed vital time.
There are many riders who would jump on the chance to go but they won't be the USA's best.
A country should be sending it's best three riders and they should be compensated accordingly to go represent.

I know you’re not talking about this year specifically but I don’t think a lack of support from the riders is really an issue for team USA this year. I could be wrong but it seems Sexton is willing to go although the team switch complicates things, Webb is in a similar situation and indicated that he wanted to go although I think that’d be a long shot. AP has already been rumoured to be on the team so he obviously wants to. I’m pretty sure RJ has been vocal about wanting to go, and Justin Cooper scheduled his wedding around the original date to be able to go so he clearly wanted to.
South Africa somehow manages to send a team with funds raised through raffles, donations and help from the overseas moto industry.
Our riders and crew are always super happy to go represent.
The US situation if understandably different as your top guys are professionals earning big bucks to win the US titles. That is where their focus is.
They are more than eager to race three more SMX rounds.
These same arguments have been flying around for years.
The promoters themselves call it Motocross of Nations or MXON.
I posted about this on another thread. The US teams and riders who choose not to go are a bunch of whingers. As other posters have said other countries with a fraction of the resources always make the effort.
US excuses: cuts into riders' holiday time because the event is held in their off season; don't get paid; teams have to pay; very little prize money for taking part in MXDN; too far to travel; only want to go if going to win.
All of these are pretty piss poor excuses when the only US riders who have any possibility of going are multimillionaire professional athletes. The only valid reason for not going is when you're team won't let you, e.g: Jason Anderson.
The name was officially anglicised (from 'de' to 'of') in 2004 when Youthstream became the promoter.
I understand your points but I struggle to feel sorry for young multimillionaire professional athletes who want a rest instead of representing the USA. As I said in another post, they're whingers.
For what is supposedly the biggest race of the year - with a huge crowd in most cases - it is ridiculous that the teams (or AMA etc) have to fund (the biggest part of) the travel etc. themselves.
It also would be quite fair to have solid price money. The playoffs in the US are a good example of that.......
I can’t see why governing bodies, like the AMA, don’t allow for MXdN costs (or at least some of the cost) to come out of the promoter’s pockets through their contracts with them? In this case, Feld and MX Sports.
That way it relieves the financial burden from teams and individuals. It’s not like this is a new event and can’t be planned for.
Despite that, yeah like others, all I hear are excuses every year it’s not in the States. Meanwhile smaller countries attend on a shoestring budget, with little complaint, or even a chance of a podium.
All teams get a travel indemnity from the promoter and there is prize money. It's not a lot at all, more of a token, and hasn't changed for years.
If you want to be really picky, I think it was 'des' , which I believe is French, the same as 'Moto Cross' , but we have appropriated 'Motocross' as English now
