He spoke well of him on the recent DMXS with Izer... But I'm not sure Jett/Hunter having success means his commentary on the sport's general health or the talent level coming through are necessarily wrong.

Talent wise they're comparable eras... up until the Lawrence's success the old generation's pinnacle was better... but now if Jett and Hunter are the top, that's Chad and Byrner, although Hunter is certainly eclipsing Michael and I think Jett healthy shits on everyone's records... then Evans/Ferris might be your Sharkies and Metcalfes... You've got uber talented kids who might not make it due to injury or worse (Elliot/Duffy) and then there are a few dudes who got overseas and just weren't quite gonna get it done and went home, Waters/Clout/Beaton vs an Anderson/Marmont/Carrol or even Dack/Ashcan.

So up until the brothers, he was probably right to say it wasn't as good... and his critical commentary on the way the sport is being run is warranted as well, but that's not an Aussie only problem. Moto is a shit show, it is everywhere.

We've got one of the longest and best run local car racing series on the planet.

Yeah every time the touring car series has gone away from locally produced cars, interest levels have dropped significantly. Can’t see the current change to Camaro vs Mustang being any different unfortunately.

Not to derail the thread but V8 Supercars worked because the most popular family cars were racing...

It might frustrate people but I really think they need to look at what is selling in Australia and cater to that... but sadly its dual cab utes and SUV's - they tried a dual cab ute series and it was so stupid.  The 3 most popular non SUV's from 2022 was the Corolla but that only sold 25,000 vehicles compared to the Commodore in 2002 which sold 88,000 vehicles...

I feel there will never be another time or place in history where the Taxi, the fleet vehicle, the family car, the aspirational vehicle, the race car, the burnout car and the tow vehicle where all the same vehicle...  The bloody holden commodore...

Perfect season in your rookie debut is a high bar to set. The highest bar, you literally cant go higher. Jettson is seriously taking the sport to the next level. If he closes this out you wont be able to beat his record only tie it. Congrats kid!

Not to derail the the thread either but Those super V8 cars have nothing to do with the car you buy and that was the biggest issue. Ford and Holden missed the boat and tried to continue building cars no one really wanted anymore. I for one stopped watching years ago in the early 90’s when they banded other cars that beat the local cars. I agree they will never have a series like they did as you pointed out and it’s a crying shame…

Good to see Reedy involved with an 85cc class being reinstated in Oz SX. That’s where he started his SX journey.

The 80s were certainly an apex of Oz moto. Lots of international riders, thousands of people at Mr Motocross events and the SX on tv through Wide World of Sports.
Since you mentioned 82 SX:

Obviously have not been to as many nationals of late that I once did, but I think the formation of the MX3 class and the junior talent coming through, Aus MX / SX could be close to as healthy as it has been for a long time. Allowing super talented 14/15 years olds race the MX3 class is allowing the top juniors to progress faster than before.

Numbers seem pretty healthy across the MX1, MX2 and MX3 classes.

Well I think after Jett’s Honda, the most lead laps would be a Suzuki.

If Jett wins the Ironman overall he will be sitting equal with JMB on number of titles and number of overall wins.

The marketing is in the racing, not the winning.

Suzuki won 7 out of 12 450 titles from 2005-2010, didn't help them much.

Honda didn't win a 450 title for 20 years, their sales are OK.

Agreed. 100%

That is my point. He has matched Reed’s outdoor legacy in his first go at it. Jett is coming for them all.

Coming for all the 450 records, because he didn’t get any in the 250 class. There, I fixed it for you.

and the people that say the 250 class doesn’t count are the one’s that “their guy” doesn’t have any of the records.

It’s about time the winner gets a cool looking trophy instead of some cheap piece of wood. Now I hope that the DBP technology used in Jett,s bike doesn’t come out. Because most men would loose there eye sight from the mach5 exceleration.   The kid has got to be Extra sharp to hang on  to  the lightening quick DBP boost. Double boost port for those living under a rock.
