In the world of "what if's", what if the 4 stroke was never invented?  Would JB51's title chances have been different?  There's no denying his talent to ring the guts out of a 2 stroke.

Maybe.   RC seemed to be pretty good on a 2 stroke too though.

To answer OP, I’m not sure if JB would have had more titles. He can certainly make a 2 stroke sing like few others though. His ultra aggressive style may have caused more problems at the professional level with traction

Possibly.   Maybe it's just because we don't get to see enough of the top guys ripping on 2 strokes, but man it's fun to watch him ride one.

I guess I’d be driving a 2 stroke truck.

I stopped watching for a few years, has he not made an appearance at the Straight Rhythm? Now it’s almost odd to show up there without a two-stroke.

Revving the crap out of a two stroke isn’t the way to ride one fast. Keeping it in the meat of the powerband is the key and that includes not revving it too much.
Modern fourstrokes actually rev higher than two strokes and when I watch a guy like Barcia on a two stroke all I see is over revving. Same as when I see other modern pros ride 125’s, they just scream the crap out of it not going anywhere.
Listen to old videos of Stewart on a 125, yes he has it pinned, but he’s also always shifting to not let the power flatten out.

Another example is look at how well Roczen did on the two stroke. He’s not a high revving guy on a four stroke, he just knows how to ride a bike in the meat of the power no matter where it is.

Yeah, While watching that display of ineptness, all I could think about was looking Wild Thing 51 up and showing him the fast way around the track on a two stroke. Good Lord.

Did Barcia ever race a full size two stroke?

I remember him racing a CR125 in an old video, circa 2007? But I believe when he was an amateur for Factory Connection in B class at LL's he was on a CRF

Roczen has said how much he disliked riding the CR smoky at Straight Rythym because of the poor on/off throttle response on jump faces.

Funny isnt it?

Would have to think Chad has more wins if they stayed on 2 strokes, he struggled with the first few years of 450’s

I just wish we would have seen James stay on a 2 stroke forever, he rode the shit out of that 250 in the last year outdoors..

I gotta believe James would have been way better off on a trusty YZ 250 over the four stroke by the time he went to Yamaha in supercross.

I know it likely wouldn't have been an option by that late stage in the four stroke take over, but damn if ever a guy didn't get on with a bike...
