The law was actually written in 2007 by the Bush administration and passed through Congress with bipartisan votes with a schedule to phase out incandescent bulbs within 10 years, so it should have happened in 2017.

trump delayed it, but now Biden is closing the loop.

But you righties can continue to get your panties in a bunch and just flame on.

The outrage!

Again, who’s deciding what oven/range/stove top you can have…what bulbs you can use…making you pay insane energy prices…?

Yup! Those dems sure are helping the “average American”.

You do realise you’re complaining about energy prices whilst simultaneously complaining about light bulbs that use less energy.

HIGH Energy prices being what they are due to foolish policies is one thing. The gov’t deciding you MUST USE a $5 bulb in place of a 69 cent bulb is, indeed, another one of those foolish policies.

As others have pointed out: if these things are truly awesome, the market will reflect that in sales statistics showing that no one wants the old tech. But, some people do still do prefer the older bulbs.

No worries, Joe is obviously focused on the important stuff. Laughing

The real victims here are the lava lamp owners. LEDs just don't get hot enough.

my daughter is going to be pissed

Just set it on one of those coffee cup warmers, and viola!

You have your lava lamp, and increased it's power usage. Woohoo

this right here is what is WRONG with....everything. Instead of collectively, as a population, saying "Um, this is the dumbest shit I've ever heard!" we must blame the other "team" for something so blatantly stupid as hell. Round and round we go.

Bush did it.
Clinton did it.

Obama did it, too.

Trump tried to do it.

Now Biden is doing it.

Apply this to damn near everything gubment does, and we support it if "our guy" does it, and make fun of it if the "other guy" does it. All of this changes when we all come together and say "Yeah, i don't care who the fuck came up with this idea, but it's dumb. Drop it or we vote you out".

ta-da.

Vote them out?    Voting in this country has about as much credibility as it did in Iraq under Saddam Hussein....

I do agree with you, it's not "who"....it's about what.   ...and that all boils down to $$$$$.

Well, you should have called out the thread starter on page 1 to say the same thing.

I was merely pointing out that it isn't Biden 'coming for your lightbulbs' as this policy pre-dates his administration.

I am an admittedly blantantly partisan Democrat, but I don't seem to recall starting a thread in 2007 'Bush is coming for your lightbulbs'

Some of you are too young to remember when the incandescent companies (GE, Phillips, etc) got together and decided the only way to increase profits was to cut life span.  Those old bulbs lasted FOREVER.  After the change, I couldn't get a bulb to last past 3 or 4 months.  We have a lot of surges out here in the sticks.

The first few years of LED were pitiful but I've had really good luck the last 4/5 years.

The old incandescent bulbs liked to be turned on and left on...they rarely burned out.  The LED bulbs are the opposite...turn 'em off when yer done...they'll last a lot longer.Wink

Remember the good old days when this was the only shop light you had, load up a 100 watter in there and take bets on what would happen first; you lean into it and burn your elbow, you knock it over and bust the blazing hot filament in the bulb, or you finish the job with enough light to save a few curse words.

Nowadays you can just stick a 15w led bulb in one of these and have all the light you ever wanted with way less hassle.

Yup. He signed it into law and it's been phasing in ever since. This is the last phase. I haven't bought an incan bulb in many years. Wouldn't if they were even available.

Does this apply to heat lamps?

My sons lizard has one on the terrarium…And I keep one in my dogs house in the winter…are lizards and dogs (and chickens and whatever else) going to freeze now?

And I wish the government would just let the market decide…if LEDs are better, they will naturally replace incan’s…no need for a government mandate…I feel the same about electric vehicles and solar/wind power and everything else…the government needs to stay out and let the free market show which is better….government intervention raises costs and often forces inferior products on citizens.

I know this is from CNN, so must be lefty-biased and fake news, but here ya go:

What is not banned?

Not all incandescent light bulbs are banned as part of the new rule, according to the Department of Energy. Here’s what manufacturers can still build and stores can continue selling:

Appliance lamps, including fridge and oven lights

Black lights

Bug lamps

Colored lamps

Infrared lamps

Left-handed thread lamps

Plant lights

Flood lights

Reflector lamps

Showcase lamps

Traffic signals

Some other specialty lights, including marine lamps and some odd-sized bulbs

I think the ban is short-sighted. Since everyone started using LED's everywhere (Computers, phones, TVs, and now light bulbs) I have noticed a rapid degradation of my eyesight.

I got sick of changing out incandescent bulbs about 3-4 years ago, so I switched my bulbs to LEDs. When I did that, my eyes started going bad. Last year we switched back to incandescent, but the damage was done.

Is the issue Political? Yes! It's stupid! One side says "climate change" and the other side says "free market". As others have said, let the market decide, not the government. To ban a light bulb is a waste of effort for the Government.

Here's some info I found on eye damage with a quick Google...Are LED Lights Bad for Your Eyes Really? Fact Or Myth - Eye Care Website (eyecarewebsites.com)

I think you can still get "bug light" incandescent or chicken brooder heat bulbs from tractor supply.

I don't led, speak with the wallet.
