Seems Keefer has been holding out on us lol.....kidding. (longer swing arm)
https://www.mxpmag.com/the-matrix-concepts-canada-pit-tour-shawn-maffen…
I would like to know how Raptor foot pegs are one off? They offer multiple options as stock and you get what you want on special order anyway. Longer swingarm sounds little overkill.
I remember Keefer saying something about longer swing arms a while back, but he just glazed over it. Whats interesting is we know that teams are running the axle all the way back, but I thought that was with the stock swing arm. So Tomac has been running it all the way back on an even longer swing arm? crazy. Must be trying to get as much weight forward as possible for front end traction? Keefer...? I know riding mine on fast stuff the front feels like it is hunt and pecking around, maybe they are on to something
Looking for some help, 23 Yz 450 20 hours. Went to the track today and noticed it took 15 cranks to get the bike started. Very odd considering it starts up first crack. Let the bike warm up, gave it a couple revs and noticed some minor decel popping. Went out on the track, road for about 15 minutes. Bike felt kinda slow. I felt like I was in the full throttle position more than normal, just didn’t feel like it was pulling hard . Came in and put a stock map back in. Started the bike up and it was bogging hard with 3/4 throttle revs. Took the bike out and had major bogg under any load. Came back in let the bike cool down and was hard to start back up. And that’s where I left it. My initial thoughts are fuel pump issues. Just looking to see if anybody’s had something similar or any insight on a direction for me to go. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks all.

Valves out of spec
Yamaha tech support has stated they're seeing mapping/kill switch issues. Mine sporadically cuts out in the mid range without set ryhme or reason and has been hard to start since cutting out started. Hard starting is only apparent when its having the cutting out issues btw. Valves won't be the issue with 12 hours on machine. Map switch is ordered as its cheapest to replace with a known problem to yamaha since I've already went through the whole wiring harness connections and added dielectric grease to all cleaned out connections to no avail. Will let ya know if it solves the very sporadic problem.
Have you had any bogging issues under heavy load? I have covered the kill switch every time I wash the bike.
Yes, always seems to be when accelerating in mid rpm range for a very short window of rpm
I got the hydraulic clutch. Not going to try and install it tonight before riding tomorrow though.
Fuel filter clogged?
Figured out where the noise was coming from. Luckily caught it before any damage was done. This is at 20hours.

Huh that was close. Mine took piston and rest of motor with it..
I had the exact same issue. The rod is probably ruined as well… changed mine. Still waiting on Yamaha for warranty. Until now I didn’t pay anything.
Did you had any warranty?
Yea I’m replacing the rod as well for a better peace of mind. I’m going to call them on Monday and see what they say.
Is this something that a lot of folks are having trouble with? First I’m seeing it but looks to have happened to at least a few more folks given the replies. No noise from mine at 30 hours but I’m certainly curious to hear of this is happening to a bunch of bikes
Guess it is good thing to change your piston in time and replace it with a different brand…
Yamaha didnt want to give any. They just pointed manual says 12,5h
Pit Row
Havent seen many options yet what brands are offering piston kits?
That’s sad. 12,5 hours is just insane imo..
Pro-x I believe has one.
Seems like a common fault by sound of it.
Yikes. Stay away from Pro-X.
Better then breaking OEM piston pins 😅
wtf..all the yz450s before this were known to be tanks that dont break
😆 Can’t argue with that
Wossner piston stock compression is available and comes with a wrist pin.
I've been running my 19 all the way back since I got it. Really helps stability, good for whoops and steep hill climbs. The best thing is turning doesn't really feel like it's changed, but the stability is noticable.
Yep, 15 hours on mine, takes forever to start. Once it finally does start, it runs fine though. Took it in this morning, valves are in spec and fuel pump tested good. Going to try changing the map switch to see if that does anything as others suggested.
When my engine is cold I have to use the cold start plunger on my 19, even when it's hot out.
