I need to sell two or three bikes. It’s best to have someone along with you and meet in a safe place. I doubt I’d would bring my wife. A Southeast Texas Jefferson County girl with a gun might not be the best idea. She said yesterday I want to go with you when you meet up to sell one, cause if I don’t like the way things are going I’ll just shoot the fucker!!!
Someone with ill intent is not going to agree to meet at a police station. Same reason why someone with ill intent is not going to send you a picture of their driver's license. They're tests more than anything to ensure the person you are transacting with isn't a degenerate.
The funniest one was about 5 years ago...I was selling a Crew Cab Dually on Craigslist...Black dude driving an Escalade shows up to see the dually...Falls in love with the truck...Wants to buy it...Kicks one of his Air Jordan Hi-tops off and pulls out $10k cash from the bottom of the shoe...Then he kicks off the other Hi-Top and pulls another $10k from the shoe...Hands me $20k cash...Unfortunately he was still $2000.00 short...Thats all he had and thought I would budge on the truck price...Nope
I meet at the bank during business hour Always lots of surveillance and conduct the transaction with the bank teller to verify the funds are legitimate while someone is outside with the bike.

I almost always meet people at my house, I do bring the bike out and close up the garage though so none of my other stuff is on display. I have two german shepards that are usually out in the yard when I have visitors as well.
I think the chances of someone showing up to buy something and robbing you for it is not super high at least in my area and after I get a feel for them over the phone. I think the bigger problem is someone buying or not buying something and seeing what else is in your garage and coming back or telling other people.
also think of all of the times you are outside washing your bikes or loading them up or just have the garage open while working on stuff and you see the odd car go through your neighborhood.
I probably am foolish to let people come to my house but my canine buddy looks and sounds imposing enough to give people something to think about (rottie/pitbull/ boxer mix).

To be honest, when I was in South Africa for a bit as a kid, we had a Doberman and a German Shepherd. They were soft when you knew them, but rowdy to passers by and strangers.
Anyway, we had some assholes take the house over and try and ransom me and the baby sitter, both dogs were at the bottom of the garden, under a hedge shaking, when my dad and couple of buddies showed up and cleared the place. Weird times.
Most dogs won't actually physically protect unless trained to do so but most of the time the deterrent is enough. My guy is actually very sweet but his bark rattles the windows. People seem to be more afraid of him than the Doberman/Shephard mix I had and she was much more aggressive. I also have a lab mix and she's a friendly, happy marshmallow who wouldn't scare anyone.
That's crazy that someone tried to take over the house and ransom you. I'm glad you were ok and I hope your dad and his buddies kicked the shit out of those assholes!
I don't lived in that fear. I chat back and fourth, then if they want to see it, come on over. I have 3 big dogs and a 4th that will lick you to death. Plus I carry a concealed gun daily. But seriously, not afraid for someone to look at my items for sale at my house. No one is coming in here if I'm not home. Our pups run the whole acreage. If you can get past a 2 German shepherd's and a Anatoline shepherd. You really deserve what I have.
There’s typically an officer (sergeant or shift commander) in the office. Just pop in and let them know what you’re doing. I’d be willing to bet they’ll step outside or at least watch the security cameras. Most police departments have cameras all over which could help identify someone via their face or license plate. Regardless, most thieves won’t take the chance if meeting at a PD.
no but defending yer own life might be a good idea. thieves usually don't care about their victims and will do stupid things to attain the item.
I appreciate a dude not jumping at the opportunity to drop someone over a used bike, but I also agree with what you're saying.
If someone's willing to knife you for a phone or the 50 in your wallet, someone is certainly capable of worse trying to separate you and your bike.
Anyway, MPJC, I hear you man, dogs are super interesting really aren't they 👍 I've been watching a good bit of Mike Ritland's content the past few years and he shares some pretty interesting stuff
I just keep all my dirt bikes.. no selling here. lol
