If these rumors are true, Star/Factory Yamaha won’t be represented in the motocross season? That would suck! I know we say it every time a rider goes SX only, but these are 2 high profile factory guys on the same team.
also Roczen SX only, and is Mookie still SX only too? If this is the trend, not looking good for the nationals or at least the 450 class.
Anyone moving up next year besides Hunter?
Tomac, Webb, Roczen are all at or very near the end of their careers
Why not let them ride SX only and let Justin Cooper ride 450 MX only? If SX only gives guys (speaking to guys like Tomac, Webb, and KR94) longer careers, I'm all for it. I know that's not popular, but I don't care. I'll watch the outdoors if it were 100% all privateers racing it.
That’s my thought too with Cooper, otherwise a major factory won’t be represented willfully in the 450 class. That’s not a good sign.
When guys like Tomac and Roczen do it, it’s earned. Multi time 450 MX champs that are at the end of there careers, go ahead. When others who have achieved so little outdoors do it. It’s a cop out.

I think you guys are missing the point of my question. It’s not about who’s going SX only, it’s about the team going SX only, at least the 450 class.
SX only deals wont last with the new SMX payout at the end of the year.
My crystal ball says:
If the Webb to Star Yamaha is true: Then he probably gets a 1 year SX only deal.
If the Tomac 2-year deal rumor is true: He would be both SX and MX.
Then you can put Justin Cooper on the empty 450 for MX.
Rumor is Tomac is 1.5M for 2024 SX only with 2nd year option. Just speculating though from the sites that most of you hate. 😏 we’ll see if it becomes truth.
i bet webb does outdoors
Webb himself in a recent interview said he has 2-3 years left in him.
He ain't done.
where are you getting these “rumors” from?
Facebook comments.
Where I get all my info from, YouTube lol 😂
I think Kawi would be better off getting rid of AC and hiring Webb. He's done nothing on that KX450 in 4 seasons of SX. I would cut ties with riders after 2 bum seasons consecutively. Its a giant waste of MONEY, time, other available talent, and resources. Its business, not personal, on this level.
Yeah he seems like a good guy but not worth a top factory ride at this point. He is a lot older than many of us perceive him as being too.
Dang that's harsh. Also, not true.
Eli & Coop represent the team in SX.
Then they hire two outdoor specialists for May- Sept.
It’s not a difficult concept, if not a common practice.
This kind of thing will likely be the norm in the future. No I don’t like it either.
Re. your last sentence: O hell yes! Privateer commentators too, I'd pay to watch that.
Exactly.
Pit Row
Okay I'll bite. Which part isn't true? That fact that Kawi would be better off hiring a recent multi-time 450 champ, who was battling with Tomac for this years title until they both got hurt? Or that AC has done nothing significant in 4 SX seasons?
I don't know about Kawi. Aren't they the same or worse than KTM when it comes to running the bike they way they say? Tomac had issues with them for years.
As for AC. Kid is a great guy...but he seems to be made of glass (injuries). I think his days are numbered.
the factories need to pay these guys more to race outdoors it’s too bad to see less top flight pilots doing outdoors I remember when outdoors was the main focus and 500 two strokes still roamed the earth yeah the good ole days is what I call it. Jeff ward Rickey Johnson Mike larocco Jeff Stanton BOB HANNAH would all have something to say about supercross only yep oh yeah and beer sponsors
MC wasn’t a multi time MX champ when he went SX only. Neither was Windham. Or Chad. Etc. etc.
Adam has some HD friends at Kawasaki, I reckon.
Super likeable dude...but at this stage of the game, he's not going to suddenly become a real contender. But, then again I feel the same way about Anderson. His ship has sailed for the most part.
McGrath won the MX title in ‘95 and already had three SX titles by then.
I feel like Windham already had established his career credentials by the time he went SX only.
Chad I think should have stayed with outdoors. He would most likely have won in ‘07.
I am aware of MC’s single outdoor title. Park said multi-time, which MC was not.
If the SMX becomes a permanent thing that strategy is problematic.
Not really, if none or very few top guys race outdoors how far can they drop in points when a privateer finishes 4th? Roczen, Tomac and Barcia are 5,6& 8 and either have done a single outdoors lap or 1 race. Anderson is 7th. A top 5 finish in SX will get you in. Christian is 18th and hasn’t raced since mid season in SX
I for one would like to see Justin Cooper get a shot at MX on a 450, when healthy, he’s damn good on a 250 and looked good in limited time on the 450 in SX.
SX is a bigger stage globally than outdoors imo. I think star having 2 multiple time SX Champs in the stable, running SX only, is good. Outdoors ain't going away, and I'm sure they'll focus on it in time. If own star, I'm possibly looking at more SX titles, and that's the most coveted title.
I was specifically talking about Tomac and Roczen here. Roczen is already SX only and Tomac might be, both have nothing to prove. MC was a champ that went SX only over a decade into his career in 99. Reed came back to do outdoors and he won a title while doing so, rounded out his career and made him loads of money. Windham went SX only in 2008 his first race was in 1994, Windham also raced quite a few MX races in 2010 and 11 into his 30’s. Larocco went SX only late in his career as well. All of these guys are quite accomplished. Windham the least so but still achieved double digit race wins in the premier class as well as over 50 podiums.
