2023 KTM 250/300SX Bogging issue

Hi, i have the 2023 KTM 250 SX and firstly i love the bike its unbelievable. Im wondering if anyone is experiencing some sort of bogging issue on the crack of the throttle when riding the bike Asif its a little limp right off the crack. Once its going it seems fine. The bike has been fine for the 13hr i have put on it until the last half hour its developed this. Ive done the power valve reset using the connection tool provided with the bike and it seemed a little better for a lap or 2 and it is now back.

The bike is running everything completely stock, with 95 octane fuel mixed 60:1 as specified in the manual.
i have just replaced the piston with new and cleaned everything out, spark plug looks good too! See how it is but wondered if anyone could shed any light it would be greatly appreciated.

thank you guys

That’s exactly what my 300 did when it had a bad in tank fuel filter. Would bog from fuel starvation on the bottom but would rev out just fine up top. They are two piece plastic units that fail at the bond joint. It’s worth replacing it with a metal Napa 3095 or equivalent filter even if that’s not your problem. I switched to hose clamps vs the stock pex clamps.  Good luck.

The 23 uses a sock filter on the pickup tube I believe. So no plastic filter under pressure that can crack. Did it have this problem before you did the top end?  Why a new piston at 13 hrs? New 104 map?

Have you replaced the inline fuel filter?

I'm completely ignorant as to how these things work but many of the other austrian four strokes are TPS voltage sensitive. Maybe an avenue you can travel and see if it gets you anywhere. My 2022 will act a little funny off idle sometimes as well (MC350).

Clean bike, disconnect the both terminals on the battery.

Inspect fuel pump and replace inline filter at the snap connector...grease the o-ring around the snap connector.

Remove CCPS at the base of the cyl and clean it out, grease oring, seal the mating surfaces with Hondabond or some sort of silicone sealer..don't block the vacuum holes, just the gasket mating surfaces.

check pinched wires on the airbox side behind the number plate for the baro sensor, re-route so they are not pinched.

Check and verify TPS values and set to .4000v.

Throw in a new plug and test ride.

what 300?

Mine is a 2020 xcw. Thought they had the same fuel pump set up 🤷‍♂️ Mine started with a bog only in the first warm up , then slowly became a constant off idle bog. Good luck on figuring this out quickly to OP. Such a good feeling when this stuff gets remedied.

Hey man, so I have the same 250 as well and am experiencing the same issue. Did you ever get it resolved? It’s driving me nuts

Hi mate, yeah i manage to solve this pretty quickly actually. So i checked the voltage on the throttle position sensor and it was all good! But when i unplugged the throttle position sensor there was actually a bit of water sitting right in that plug. I dried it out and sprayed in some electrical connection spray and the problem has been solved since! I also did the powervalve reset with the connection tool you get with the bike just for good measure! Hope this helps, just check that plug and let me know how it goes!

I have now been telling everyone to treat every electrical connection that exists on the bike with dielectric grease.

I towel wrap my controls while pressure washing, and blow every spec of water off every single connection that there is with an air compressor.

These bikes are Jekyll and Hyde

I'm going through the same on my 2023 husqvarna tc250 I've taken it 8 times counting today when I dropped it off and dealer can't find anything. Every time I go ride it I get so scared not knowing when it's going to fail. It's no longer fun waking up in the weekend I wake up nauseous knowing I jave to ride that bike

There's always the retro carb(tps) swap alternative.

Do you have a link or pics of a TBI bike successfully swapped to a carb?  Seems like a monumental waste of time and money.  Much easier to just get a low hour carb bike.

That'll be the biggest waste of money ever heard of. If that was to be such a thing, "not bashing on you a solution is a solution) but it'll be quite sad to invest on a bike to pretty much down grade it in a way. Idk why ktm has yet to even acknowledge this situation. Give me back my hard earned money, fix my bike, or give me a new bike...

My 2023 sxf450 is doing exactly this... thought I'd fixed it with faulty tps replacement, it turns out it wasn't bad, but the pig tail connector pulled one of the tps pins out so it mist have been a bit corroded.

Also cleaned the injector and new inline and in tank sock filter as well.

I think it's a faulty fuel pump now, 48 hours only. I ordered a new one, the wiring harness is know go go bad also,  so for another $300 spent on a new one for peace of mind.

Also bought rhe taco moto inline fuel pressure tester.

Oh, and I replaced the start stop button with the nihilo dual setup since they are know go go bad also.

And a new spark plug and trimmed a rethreaded fhe spark plug cap.

Very frustrating,  since still swinging in the dark.  Nearly bought a left over 2024 for parts swapping then came to my senses I don't need two temperamental bikes lol.

Up until 48 hours,  I loved this bike and it sounds like my problems are not isolated.

Or just cut the losses and get a carby bike (YZ250 or previous generation Austrian platform) that rarely rears an ugly head like these TBI bikes have been known to do…

There may be a better thread. This requires filtering thru., as there's a lot of opinions.

Yeah it seems like a lot of just opinion, hypotheticals, and notional assumptions.  Doesn't seem to be any examples of anyone actually successfully converting a TBI to carb.

There is a more specific thread that I've seen mentioned. It has been done. The main thing for me would be getting the resistors correct.

JBone, Just wondering if that .4 volts for the TPS setting is with the red knob backed out all the way. that is how the XC2 scan tools tells us techs to set the idle. Says back it out all the way, same with the yellow and blip throttle twice. that gains you acess to setting up the red and yellow knob. It says nothing about actually setting the sensor. its just the 4st bikes, its adjustable and not a fixed unit like the TPI bikes. so ... the bike im working on, it was set at 6.3 volts and backed all the way out, its sitting at 2.2 volts. so i should bump this puppy up to 4 volts?

Thanks

Tony Diller

dm me your email, I have a TPS reset procedure that explains the set up..the XC_2 tool is a little diff but the principle is the same.  We use the wake up connector for the trackside/home shop clearing.

.4000v with no idles touching anything, then do the adaptive clearing with the (3) throttle blips, then set idles back.

Thx- J
