2nd and 3rd get an unequal bump?

What am I missing besides that it looks barely worth the effort?

~25K total payout? Hell Swan's been doing that for a while.

the payout is so low and the ones that make the "most" need it the least. Why not just split it evenly and give all 40 qualifiers $580

$800 for an 6th place in a professional sport where only the top 1% of people can even make it to that level? That is beyond sad.

This is why nationals have less privateers that follow the series. There's zero incentive for anyone to travel and follow this if they don't have to. Anyone that can top 20 a national can bounty hunt better pay days throughout the summer at local races.

DC should be embarrassed to have this shown. I know they should get a real job if they aren’t happy with the payout but these guys are providing jobs for a lot of people, it’s time to pay them for their effort. We all make fun of MXGP for no payout, but at least they don’t make pretend that they are in it for the riders

Make yer mark in the outdoors and maybe some team will be knocking on the door. So there's that.

Imagine putting in the work your whole life for that.. 20-21 gets you $1020 and 1 point. Assuming it’s per moto.

When was the last time a good outdoor showing by a true privateer landed someone a ride the next year on a team?

Imagine what this looks like compared to privateers in the GP series.

And what is the entry fee?

You would probably have to top 20 to get your money back.

Wow that is crazy.  $25K for 450 and lets say $25K for 250 - total of $50K in prize money.

Tickets are $60 (at least that is what it is at Fox raceway).

20K spectators times $60 = $1.2M, add parking, concessions, beer, apparel, that means someone is making some money - just not the riders. For most riders - they are losing money,

Not 100% sure how it works. But I believe the track pays the promoter a fee to have the race. And the track takes the gate fee.

I could be wrong tho. There could be percentages and stuff.

Then the concession holders, beer tents etc have to pay to get a spot. Not sure if they pay the track or mx sports. And they take their profits.

that sounds about right - still other people are making $$$$ off the riders.

...ask Myron Short.

I wonder if he charges his own race team entry fees?

It really is sad. I don’t know DC/MXsports, but they always come across as “woe as me” and we’re here for the riders and DC(I gotta hang banners and pick up trash)🤦🏻‍♂️ From the outside looking in it seems they’ve always made a shitload of money off the riders and not given much back. Can you imagine how much they’ve made off Loretta’s alone over the years!? If MX had a mafia family, they fit the bill!😂 I’m kidding of course, well, maybe 😏

That is per moto, right? If so it's at least a little better.

Imagine being a top 10 MX rider in America and making less than 1K weekly. If you’re a privateer, then it’s probably more like 500 weekly profits after all the expenses are taken out. Most of us here likely make much more than that with a much easier day job. Just insanity. Obviously the big money for the top guys is the sponsorships and contracts. But still. That purse money is so bad.

Motocross is the sport that cannibalizes itself. From the pros to the joes, the sport takes everything from it's own.

I thought to raise the ticket prices $5-$10 to pay back the riders that cost but it looks like they raised the ticket prices this year to $60 already.

What were they previous years? I feel like they were $40 recently? $45?

I hate to be that guy, but it's the real world. No one cares about the guy cutting your grass who doesn't make shit for money. The same people try to make it a sad story about a kid who got to skip skool to race MX.

The guy that cuts my neighbors grass has a nicer house than my neighbor.
