Eli’s Update (Instagram)

Glad he's in good spirits and absolutely hate what happened to him BUT in my opinion, I think he's done. I'm not sure he fully wanted to do outdoors this year, but given his success (up until sat night) he was in line for the SX title and stood a good chance of winning outdoors also along with the SMX title. Now all that's gone and I wonder if his motivation has changed given the amount time and rehab its going to take to get back on the bike. Not to mention this situation also puts some pressure on Star, Coop and Eli as I believe if Eli quits Coop will move to Star. I can't imagine Star wants Eli waiting to long to make his mind up about his future.

I kind of got the retirement vibe from this update, just my opinion though.

He said it has been a great ride.

I know what that means ): 

Doesn't really matter what all of the, living room legends, here think.

His team has two quality 450 riders ready to take on the pro motocross series. 

Ferrandis and Cooper are more than capable of keeping the team running up front. 

Tomac's been a great champion.

Sounds like he's going to make a full recovery. 

Whether or not he races again, he's been awesome to watch.

There's more to life than racing moto.

Especially living out in the Durango area. 

Or he takes the year off and realizes how much he loves racing. One can only hope. Either way, the guy is a legend!

That could be his goodbye statement.

I don't think even Eli knows if he's hanging his boots up for good right now. Never take any riders word for it , when they are hurt and in the dumps. I know he already had one foot out the door , but they also mentioned in the broadcast this past weekend , he was hinting about racing again in 2024. So who knows? Let him heal up , and see if that itch comes back.

Terrible timing for Webb if Eli is really going to wait a couple months for his decision. Is Star going to wait until his decision before finalizing and offer to Webb? Does Webb have to accept an offer from KTM if he’s not sure what’s happening at Yamaha? 

Hope Eli does come back but I think the decision is not simply about 'wanting' to race or not but more about knowing when to stop. Chase will be better next year, Jett will be super fast next year, and Eli will have gone seven months without racing. 

And who knows when he will even be able to ride again. It could be six months. He won't be able to beat those guys next year except on rare occasions. But who knows. I didn't think he could win at 30 but he sure did.

I would bet Star can let Eli take as long as he wants to decide. I think they have the financial ability to bring Eli back for another year (or not) and still have Webb if they wanted to.

Eli joins Kenny at WSX next summer? I could see that more than a return to US SX.

They use two semis anyways. I doubt that holds anything up.

If anything they will reserve Eli's Mechanic and Ricky Gilmore indefinitely and pit the two guys out of different trucks. It's not like they'll train together anyways. Seems like a non-issue almost and a win-win for Yamaha. Maybe Webb ends up at Club and Yamaha ups the support? doubtful but maybe.

I got retirement vibes from this and at one point thought he was going to say it but he also has been under an enormous mental strain in the last 48 hours so you can’t take too much of what he is saying serious. I think it comes down to how well this first couple of months of rehab go. As a previous person said, Chase and Jett are going to be at another level next year and can he reach that level again. Eli isn’t coming back to finish 3rd or 4th. 

Anyone on here who actually rides knows what goes through your head right after a big injury: you tell yourself, “That’s it, I’m done.” And then a few weeks or months later, you get the itch and hop back on the bike.

Obviously returning to pro racing is a very different decision, but there’s a good reason why Eli isn’t announcing anything right now.

Very true. I can’t count the number of times over the years that I’ve been laying in the dirt in pain, thinking two things:

1) why the F do I do this 

2) As soon as it’s clean, the bike is for sale 

Somehow after a few days, it changes to:

1) I wonder how long before I can ride 

2) I better go look at the bike to see what I need to order

NEVER get rid of your boots or your helmet.  Sell the bike, throw away your gear., but keep your helmet and boots, they could be the difference between you getting on a bike again at one point.

Happy to see him feeling peaceful given how unforeseeable the situation is.

I actually had a dream the night of the incident some footage was released where he was saying how things will be fine and he was expressing gratitude for his career (I think it was a part of me telling myself to calm down because I was so shocked at what happened). I’m glad he got to be such an exciting part of racing over the past decade plus. The past two years especially. 

Maybe I’m in denial but there’s no way a competitor like Eli hangs it up after going out like that 

Clearly he has unfinished business (from my perspective). I’m sure he’ll make the right decision for himself but going out on his terms seems like it would be pretty important. If that means another SX season and he doesn’t win the championship, at least he tried and went out with his head held high. If he does win, even better 

I get what you are saying but he had the title wrapped up and was winning the race. Didn't fall down or anything. Just a freak deal. I think he can hold his head pretty high right now.
