"MXLarge: What is this about wanting to race in America this month. The first round of the Nationals?

Herlings: Yes, it is. This morning I saw the supercross. I saw BamBam was obviously injured, the Husky boys are injured, Malcomb and Christian, I don’t know what is up with Plessinger, but Cooper said he will not do the first few outdoors and I assume Marvin won’t do it either. I don’t even know if they have a rider and I thought maybe I could go and race. On the 29th I have a Dutch championship race (the Monday) and I was checking flights this morning to see if I could get back on time, because I want to win the Dutch championship.

MXlarge: Would be pretty cool to win on both continents on the same weekend?

Herlings: Yes, I have been racing since February every single weekend and I need to speak to KTM, because the bikes are different. For now, it’s just a wild, wild idea, because I haven’t even asked Pit or Robert about anything like that, and they don’t know I am thinking about it. I mean, at least I want to do one event, because Southwick is also an event I always wanted to do. Since I was a kid and that is also a free weekend. It all depends on the schedule and whatever Austria thinks.

MXLarge: Racing Jett Lawrence would be cool as he is another generation?

Herlings: Yes, and the only unfortunate thing is a lot of the AMA guys are injured, just like here at the moment. With Eli, I hear he might retire now, and they are rumours, but I don’t know. I still want to race Eli another time and for me, he is one of the best ever in the US and I always respect him and want to race him again. It is always asked who the best is, but that can’t be decided unless I raced a full season there or him a full season here.

MXLarge: What about the Supermotocross at the end of the year?

Herlings: I am not racing supercross man, I am not doing that man, its two different sports, like mountain biking or road cycling. We saw what happened with Tim when he did the Monster Energy Cup, I am not doing that."

KTM let him race. I think he was hoping to race Jett, Chase, and Eli but 2 out of 3 aint bad and hopefully Ferrandis will be 100% then.

If I'm KTM I would let him come and race or pay Marvin to race the bulk of the nationals at least while Webb is out. This is if Musquin is 100% at the end of this month. If not, let him race a few once he is 100%. The field is already pretty thin, adding a few guys would be nice.

I would give up a limb to see this..  I have been a Herlings fan since he was a loud mouth punk that nobody liked.  However, he is in a title battle in his own series.  He already has had 1 championship chase lost to a crash in a one-off race, I do not see this happening Sad   If he was out of the championship, maybe.  But he has a title to win, if the attrition we see going on right now in both series' is any indicator, he would be wise to focus on the prize.

I agree it could be not the wisest thing to do, but he reached the 102 GPs goal and cannot easily achieve the 10 world titles, so the risk involved in racing the AMA date is not that big compared to the possible reward.

Additionally, Austria has no contender available in the states and Herlings could help fill the gap while some of the injured ones recover, even if for a single weekend only.

I understand there´s that risk doing extra races thats not part of the GPs but he´s already been racing dutch and french championship on off weekends so what´s an extra gate drop in AMA. If I had to choose would love to see him at Southwick over Fox Raceway.

He never gets permission from KTM for that, he has to win the world title that's what he gets paid for
I was actually surprised that he is allowed to ride the Dutch Nationals.

Why are you surprised he can race the Dutch nationals? Heaps of riders in MXGP race European national championship races on off weekends

Well. He raced Ironman while back and that was ok.

And ready to race is the company slogan?

Tbf the title at that point was done & the next GP was in the USA. The title at the moment is very much not done.

Probably not the best decision given his injury record but as a fan I don't care. The day he announces which round he does (if any) I'm booking a flight

To be fare to him , i believe he really wants to ride, but doubt it will happenSad

He seems to be trying to race anywhere and trying to get back up to speed, he isn’t were he once was yet but he’s getting faster slowly.

Yeah, he is on a crazy grind currently. Not missed a single off season race or non mxgp race this year. He wants it bad.

I've text someone who is close to Jeffrey and they'll tell me straight up.

I'll have a reply when everyone in Europe wakes up, so sit tight for now.

I will say this: Jeffrey is on a ridiculous mission to race every weekend...

Because Cairoli is now the teammanager and Cairoli only raced a few pre-season races but took no further risks to enter national races, he was 100% focused on the MXGP..

I  think Herlings has already screwed up enough titles with nonsense bullshit.

As sucks as that is for the fans, he needs to win Worldtitles.

Doesn’t he say this every time he’s healthy or close to healthy and the nationals are close?

It's a ridiculous mission but strategy is working. He's getting faster with every race. He was blistering fast in Spain.

Keep forming fairy tales in your head on what you want to hear, it still amazes me how insecure some of you US fans argue about this guy when the people who have had to race him such as Webb have said he's the fastest man on the planet on his day yet you still argue otherwise.

Anyway good interview as always from Herlings he's clearly a big fan of the sport he watches and lives all of it.

I would love to see Pay Per View with like a 8-10 rider field doing 1 on 1 for somewhere around 20-30 mins + 1 or 2 laps. Maybe double elimination style. Tomac, Ferrandis, Herlings, Sexton, Gajser, Roczen, Prado, etc. Would probably have to be done in like 2 days, but would be sweet to see.
