Heck yeah. I see a couple 250 championships in him. The kid not only has speed , but he has grit. Never give up attitude too. Reminds me a lot of younger Webb , Jmart , and a little RC to be honest. Lots can change over the years , but I dig seeing what I'm seeing.
I was a little skeptical after his results in the futures race but his pro results have been impressive. We were at Nashville SX and it seemed as though the crowd was more hype for him than anyone else in 250 and 450.

You can’t deny 2nd in a championship in your first season at 17 years old. Fantastic.
I'm impressed with ow quickly he has learned how to go faster. He seems like he's able to learn and adapt very quickly. Kinda like how Jett Lawrence is. Not really comparing them. Just see the similar ability to learn during a race. He did better than I thought he was going to.
I figured that if Star thought he was ready to go, then he would be up inside the top 10 . And top 5's would be a good target after seeing him outdoors and then the way they brought him out. Saying they were letting him come out sooner than planned. So I was wondering what their expectations were. I know that the Team wants to win. So I figured they thought he may be able to win at some point. But he impressed me with how consistent he has been too. Avoiding so many close calls that would be normal for a rookie to get into.
Hopefully when the pressure is on him next year, or outdoors to start winning he can keep going along and progressing while being consistent. I bet that the way he has been brought up, he should be able to handle the pressure . Star must be happy with him so far.

Deegan aint secured 2nd O/A yet. He still has Anstie breathing down his neck. Still gonna be a damn good rookie year.

Austin Forkner's rookie season hasdthe following riders in the same class: Plessinger, McElrath, Justin Hill, Davalos, and J Mart. All in his west coast rookie season - with Hill and AP both being future SX lites champs. If you throw in the other riders in the shoot out from the other coast, add in: Cianciarulo, Ferrandis, Osborne, Savatgy, McAdoo, and Jordon Smith. 3 SX lites champs in AC, DF, and ZO.
That's pretty salty talent that Forkner was battling as a rookie compared to Deegan. Forkner finished 4th in the series as a rookie with 2 podiums (a 2nd and a 3rd) with 2 other top 5 races. Deegan had no former SX lites champions racing in this class as it was Hunter's first Championship.
Statistically speaking, I would say that this isn't as stacked of a field as seasons past have been for other rookie riders.
AC has a 250MX title, not a 250SX title.
That is a pretty good jump from "just want to see the checkers" to a possible 2nd in the championship. His finish in NJ says a lot about his skills and determination. I thought for sure he would struggle in the slop. Looks like the real deal to me.

Absolutely true, especially in the East. Then hit with injuries. It was a good year to stay healthy and ride 250 East..
What's been impressive with him is in how stable he is too. Of course there's been mistakes, everyone makes mistakes, but for such a young kid to control himself and not constantly get caught up in the moment etc, is not easy. He said the other day that he'd wished he'd actually been more aggressive in the earlier part of the season, but I disagree, I think the approach he's taken has been the right one. Again crashes/mistakes happen to everyone (especially a rookie) but you don't get that feeling he's about to grenade at any moment.
A touch more speed and a year of experience under his belt and he should be a real threat next yr for the title.
He's has done very well this season, I don't think it's too unexpected though. But then again, the class isn't exactly stacked, so let's see how he does outdoors.
Deegs was the beneficiary of the missing Mosiman,Thrasher, Hammaker and Shimoda, and it boosted, and elevated him from 4th or 5th to a distant second.
Credit to Deegan for staying upright, but as of now he doesn't quite have the top end or the fitness.
Spot on observation. His rookie season was a success especially for the fact he has made it this far with minimal crashes and no injuries but as you stated it was made easier with the most of the major players out with injuries along the way. I will have to go back and have a look but does anyone know the ratio of podium vs off the podium finishes for Deegan? I am guessing close to 50/50 which makes his 2nd place in the points interesting but explains with Hunter winning every race except 1 the reason he is more than 2 full races in front of Deegan in points with a East/West Showdown to go.
