I think he'll be a podium contender as a rookie which is damn impressive in this field. Also expect some inconsistency in this first summer, but there will be some incredible racing for sure.

Jett has the speed to win but it will come down to how many crashes he has. Same with ET and Chase. Jett will win more than one race. I still contend that DF14 winning was similar to when Zacho won. Right time and place. It won't happen again.

Will be fun to see Barcia tangle with Jett on occasion. Will be a new experience for the kid.

I don't know, Kenny and Tomac weren't "slow" that year and Ferrandis just blew their doors off. Even when Eli had his typical late moto rides, he couldn't hang with Ferrandis. He was a beast.

I think Jett will be top 3, but if Sexton and Tomac ride the same pace as last year, I don't see him winning more than maybe one or two overalls.
But what the fuck do I know, we could also get another Roczen or Ferrandis rookie season. The beauty about motocross, it's always somehow unpredictable. 2020 we all thought that Tomac would go out and destroy everyone after his sx title clinch and after two early dnfs he pretty much wasn't even trying anymore.

Shit's gonna be good either way.

I think he’ll have winning pace straight away & only rookie mistakes can ruin it for him.

Championship win if he can avoid the mistakes.

Championship 3rd if he suffers the mistakes.

Unpopular opinion….. Ferrandis hasn’t got the pace to run 24 motos with Eli, Chase and Jett.

It's going to be an exciting summer ☀️

I'm as ready for outdoors as some of the vital fanboys are every week over Deegan video drops.

Im backing Jett for the 450 outdoor title….not a runaway but a win is a win.

Some funny takes in this thread and perceptions, I guess people don't trust their eyes much on here.

I don't put too much stock in past results.

The present, and upcoming, gate drops are what matters.

Jett is going to be riding against a whole new level of competition.

And the competition is going to have to be dealing with him as well.

Hopefully he can get consistent good starts, and stay away from the usual rolling roadblocks and take out artists.

Yeah I don't think you can compare Zacho beating AC barely by 12 points to Dylan beating Eli and Kenny by like 80 points and wrapping up a round early. People forget how insanely good he was in 2021. In his rookie season too.

I don't care much for the hype but honestly, if Roczen and Ferrandis could win the title in their rookie seasons, I don't, see a reason why Jett can't. He has arguably been better than both of then on a 250. Sure, the field is deep, but Ferrandis was up against ROczen and Tomac, and Roczen was up against Dungey and Canard.

When Eli rode like Eli that year he beat DF. Especially toward the end of the season. I just think DF won't win another title, not that he wasn't fast that year.

To all the donut eating fanboys in here:

Tomac wouldn't have signed up for MX unless he's faster outdoors than last year. That '23 YZ450F was built for MX, not SX. SX setup was just a bonus that it was better than the '22 model. Tomac wants to prove he can beat the young guns before he retires.

I thought they said the 2023 YZ was built for SX???

I don't like all the Jett hype either but he is the next great rider...unless he starts getting hurt. Tomac is going to have to rough him up a bit or the kid will go on a streak at some point summer.

In my opinion, Eli does not really go beast mode anymore but he may have to this summer. Jett won't be like Chase and just fall down a lot.

To be fair Zach and Dylan were very similar, given Tomacs slow start and post injury Kenny being not the same I think Zach would have given a hell of a fight to Dylan. It’s a shame he wasn’t able to compete.

He won't "rough him up".

But he will make him race harder than ever before.

For the entirety of both motos.

I agree...I know Tomac doesn't ride like Barcia but he will have to show Jett that he will race him hard. Eli sent a message to Cooper once at Daytona in a heat race so he is willing to set the tone at times.

I think Jett has a great future in the 450 class. That said I think it is going to take a few years before he is a serious threat for a title. There were a few guys in the 250 class outdoors over the past few years that gave him trouble. Sure, he is maturing physically and as a rider.  When you are used to racing against, Justin Cooper, Hampshire,  Forkner, Martin,  Shimoda, Robertson, kitchen,  lopes, etc making the jump to race against Eli, Webb, Plessinger, Roczen, Ferrandis, Ciancurulo ,Barcia, Sexton, El hombre , etc,  is easier said than actually done. Wish him well though, just get through the season, no one really expects Jett to contend for the title, so that may actually work in his favor. I think any of the top guys with some luck and a good start are capable of pulling off a win or two.  I wouldn't be all that surprised if Jett pulled out a win or runs outside the top 5

The thing Jett has going for him is that he's 10x better than the dudes he's racing in SX right now so he's probably been training outdoors for the better part of a month now.

Eli, Chase etc. probably have limited time on Outdoors still and won't transition for another couple weeks right?

This may prove to be a thing, with Eli in a tight points battle, and depending on how far back Chase falls, they won't spend much time testing for outdoors. Jett could surprise at the first few rounds.

I think it was Washougal, Eli went full "beast mode" burning through riders and catching Ferrandis, until he got close, and Ferrandis wicked it back up and held him off. That ride convinced me he wasn't just getting lucky. He was stupid fast and never gave up that year. If he rides like he did at MXoN this year, they need to be worried. I'm putting Jett as a close 3rd or 4th depending on what Ferrandis shows up.

I’m guessing your downvotes are from your mention of DF14. I disagree with you on that one but thumbs up for Jett getting the “Barcia” experience

Dungey’s competition that year was no where near the talent of the current crop of riders.  It is not going to be the cakewalk some of you think.

Jett was faster than Chase in timed practise first time ever on the 450, and beat him twice and was convincingly faster at MXON will do me.

Jett knows how to win; Chase finds ways to lose.

Sexton spanked Jett on Saturday in the qualifier.  Sexton raced as a team and played it cool on Sunday. I was there and Jett almost crashed every lap running that pace. I dont think Jett finishes the MX season, he's gonna get injured on that 450.

"When Eli rode like Eli that year he beat DF."

Whose fault was that? Certainly not Ferrandis'. Perhaps Eli should have ridden more like Eli. Also, ifs, ands, or buts don't count towards anything. You can make all the excuses you want for Eli or any rider, but it won't change the outcome. It's no different than saying if Sexton didn't wash the front end several times this season, he would be leading the 2023 450 SX championship.

FYI, Ferrandis wicked it up more than once when Eli caught up to him.

If you want to discredit Dylan and Osborne's titles, that's your right, but IMO, you would also have to discredit Tomac's 2017 and 2019 titles. Since the year 2000 most of the titles in the 250/450 class have been won by scoring over 500pts. In 2019 Tomac beat Roczen by 53pts which is similar to Dylan beating Tomac in 2021 by 73pts. Roczen finished 2019 with 7-podiums, and Tomac finished 2021 with 8-podiums.

Dylan's 2021 championship was just as dominant as any of Tomac's championships. You can only beat who lines up, and all the guys were there when the gate dropped for the first moto of the season. Ferrandis dominated 2021, and there's no asterisk next to anyone's name in the record books.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of the guy, it's clear as day that he was by far the best guy that year.

Whether he can replicate it or not, who knows, but it will be interesting to watch.

It's a shame he tore a ligament on press day for round 1 last year because I think it would've made the season that much more interesting at the front of the pack.

Since 2000 the average number of points scored for the championship is 531.83

Championships Won with Less than 500pts. Since 2000

2020 Zach Osborne (9-round series) 355pts.
2nd: Adam Cianciarulo 343pts.

2nd: Mike Alessi with 423pts.

2017 Eli Tomac 470pts.
2nd: Marvin Musquin 453pts.

2009 Chad Reed 481pts.
2nd: Andrew Short with 388pts.

2001 Ricky Carmichael 490pts.
2nd: Kevin Windham with 482pts.

Funny part about RC in 01 is he raced one race in the 125 class and still out scored the other dudes on the list lol
