Before I start i want to say that i think RC is easily the G.O.A.T and I'm not trying to argue that he's not in this topic.
We have all heard it said on TV, from our friends, read it in magazines and heard it in these forums that Ricky Carmichael went out on top due to winning the 2006 AMA SX title, "he would have been happy to go out on top" etc.
But in all honesty he didn't.

Chad Reed, Ricky and James all rode every race that year, including the two rounds in canada, and James won the "World" Supercross championship.
Therefore James beat RC in supercross in his final year.

it's funny i just finished watching the AMA wrap up DVD of the outdoors from that year and it reminded me just how good Carmicheal was and yeah he definately went out on top of outdoors he schooled everyone or he laid the wood on everyone you know hauled the mail lead the dog and all that.

and watchin RC and stewart battling on those tracks is just epic

also i love aggressive riding and passing but stewart should never complain about anyone trying to take him out after seeing some of the passes he tried in that year, I'm completely fine with him trying them it just annoys me when he complains when someone tries them on him, sorry i'm kinda off topic... nooo off topic on vital, never happens

RC / his Suzuki gave Stewart a gift as far as the World Title goes because RC's shock broke in St. Louis, where he scored 0-points. That was such a freak accident, I can only count on one hand the amount of times I've seen that happen in professional racing. Had it not happened, he would have wrapped up the AMA title before Las Vegas, and taken home the WSGP title with ease.

James did win the two Canadian rounds, so as a RC fan, I say let him have it.

RC truly is the G.O.A.T. though, and here's why:

>
McGrath, and Stewart are "Supercross specialists". Ricky was a motocross specialist, yet he won 5 (6 if you include his '05 WSGP) titles in the discipline he struggled the most in, supercross. McGrath, who dominated supercross only won one outdoor title in the big bike class, and the same case will go for Stewart, unless his contract changes.

For McGrath, or Stewart, to be on par with RC. They would have had to of won every SX championship they competed in, and at least 5 motocross titles in the premier class. Simply put, Ricky Carmichael prevented both of those motocross greats from ever accomplishing that.

Perfectly said- When RC put his MX racing boots away wasn't he leading the MX seires in points ahead of Stewart and all the others...that must have been hard decision. Looking back at other sports many ...rather most greats don't know when to quit.RC had a plan and stuck to. One of RC's greatest strengths was his discipline. He had to be one of the most disciplined mofos I ever had the pleasure of watching and when he did someothing it was 100% even retiring. I think he came back one time a few months later to race for his country. Pretty sure we went out on top that year too-

with age brackets being bumped up and SX only we wll never ever most likely see his records broken

ok so he went out tied for the top?
I think the supercross crown was passed on to Stewart in 06. Well taken from RC in any case.

I wonder who's gonna win the election in 2 years, in 2008. Wouldn't that be crazy if we elected the first ever African American president? I'm not gonna hold my breath tho. I'm picking the Steelers for the Super Bowl btw. Man I can't wait to graduate High School in 2 years. Okay, I'm getting off now, I have to go study for my drivers test, since it's 2006.

Thanks for the support Cook441, I especially like this statement you made: "He had to be one of the most disciplined mofos I ever had the pleasure of watching and when he did someothing it was 100%."

That was perfectly put as well lol.

-JW381, that was a pretty funny post. Grinning

So if we go by you're theory that because JS was the real winner in 06 because he won the world title that would meen in 03 Reedy was the real champ because he won the world sx and RC won the AMA title and in 04 Heath Voss was the real champ cause he won the world sx title not Reed that won the AMA. I don't think so. The only championship that matters is the AMA. I agree JS won the world title and RC did race all the rounds with him but the only championships that counts in my eyes and most the record books is the AMA..We all know they used the world rounds early in the year as warm up races that if they did bad in they could throw away and start w/a clean slate at A1. Yes they try to win but if they didn't win it didn't really matter because we all know only the AMA title matters. RC won the title they all wanted the most. The 06 AMA title so RC went out on top.

Does anyone remember the next year when James won the AMA title...something about, "here's the title you REALLY wanted"???

I'd suggest you watch the celebrations after 06 and 07 and see which one matters most to James.

The key reason why the WSX title didn't hold much weight is that it didn't even give points to all the riders, and it didn't include Daytona.

Unless a rider raced the Canadian rounds, he was not given World Supercross points at ANY event that season. So, everytime Windham or someone like that beat Stewart, he was not scored as if he did so. It was like they didn't even exist. The "World Title" didn't include all the competition, so its much more meaningless.

was RC the best ever outdoors? Yes, by a mile

was RC the best overall rider? Yes

was RC the best SX rider? Nope, MC was, and always will be

RC left room for someone down the road to take over the GOAT title..... when a rider does what RC did outdoors, and what MC did indoors, only then could the GOAT title rightfully transferred.....
