With as fast as bikes are today why can we not lower the sound db of the bikes. Say something about the db level of a mower. Seems like an easy fix for what is a huge problem.
And yes I do realize if you take away the noise, dust, and even sight out of the equation the hippies will complain about erosion.

This right here. I lived in Florida for a year from 2020-2021. I went back and visited Ocala/Villages area for 4 days like 3 months ago and my mind was blown at how many housing developments are being built.
Any natural Florida beauty is being bulldozed and slammed with cookie cutter houses right next to eachother by the thousands. See that nice beautiful cow pasture with the old trees? Yep a developer bought it and 1600 homes are being put in.
The best part is the roads can’t keep up with the increase in population so the traffic is an absolute shitfest any day of the week at any time. I’m so happy I left that state, buts it’s sad to see it turn into a giant subdivision.
We bought a home in The Villages about a year ago. We retire this fall and will be snowbirding there, so no more shitty Indiana winters for us. I'll have my bikes and I plan to ride the numerous tracks in the area. There's also a very cool mountian bike park 30 minutes from our home.
It's truly a great place to retire. Especially if you're active like we are and want to stay busy. There's 130k people living there, so yes there are some entitled assholes there, mostly from the bigger cities up north.. But our neighbors and most of the people we've met have been very cool.
I wish they would quit saying TV is trying to shut him down since thats not true.
Spyder MX is in Wildwood Florida and is much closer to TV, and they're doing just fine. They have offroad races, mud bogs and mx. It's a 20 minute drive from my house, which is good for me..

He just chose the wrong property to build his facility, has two complaining neighbors, and his track if 200ft from his property line according to Sumter County's GIS data. The Link above is comical, and shows you have to educate the decision makers to what is industry standards for the sport. His neighbors just don't want him there, so they're doing whatever they can to get him shut down.
I hope Rattray wins in the end.
HOA president, lol. I've spent a good chunk of my professional life fighting with HOAs, P&Z committees, and municipalities in general. If you think track owners have it hard try helping a client find a location for a concrete batch plant for a non-governmental project within 25 miles of anything. There is an art to these things. Like concrete plants motocross facilities are viewed as a nuisance so the importance of being honest about the intended use of the property (training facility vs. buddies) and staying within the parameters of the permit is amplified. Again, the other facilities in and around Sumter County have found a way to make it work.

I can concur with other Floridians posting here. I’ve been here since I was born and the last 4-5 years of living here have become completely unbearable. I seriously thought I would never leave and now I can’t wait to. So much beautiful area being destroyed by developers who line the commissioners wallets to the brim.
The circle track that I spent every weekend at as a kid watching my dad race, and where I first got behind the wheel of a car at 13 and learned so much is about on the brink of death. 4 years ago there was nothing to be seen near it, nothing but acres of beautiful Agricultural Zoned land filled with tons of wildlife, including the endangered Gopher tortoises. As of right now all of that land is in the process of being sold to a developer, against their constituents wishes and will be bulldozed so they can put more of those horrible cookie cutter houses. They’re planning on putting a Golf Course right on the Lake that me and my brothers fished at our whole entire childhood, so all that beauty will be turned into every other green sludge pond from all the fertilizer runoff, all those endangered Tortoise burrows will be covered up when the “Wildlife” dept comes to survey the land and approve it for residential use.
The track obviously sees the writing on the wall and is fighting against it, but as it goes with every politician we already know money has been slipped into pockets. The neighborhood will get built, the transplants will complain, and the track will get shut down until they bulldoze all the way to the other coast.
Sorry for the rant, got way off topic. Just breaks my heart to see such an awesome place to grow up get absolutely destroyed by people who were never here to appreciate it.

As far as MX complaints, I'll just continue to blame 4 strokes for everything shitty that's happened to MX in the past 20 years. All of our covert riding areas around here were wiped out by noise.
The state has become some kind of astroturfed leisure attraction and all of the people who got to feel an okeechobee morning with nothing but cows, or feel that “seminole wind” on their backs have been are being pushed out. Yeah man, I feel the heartbreak. Non Floridians won’t understand either.

What you're describing here is happening everywhere to a certain degree, and it's happened since the beginning of civilization. Columbus was a transplant.

In this particular situation, you are correct. The Villages has nothing to do with this. I understand the allure of The Villages for retired people but as an outsider you do not understand what that place has done to destroy the states beauty and also natural habitat. It truly is like a cancer spreading through the state. It's just a nightmare for everyone else to have to contend with.
Spyder will be around for the rest of the year and she'll be gone. I was under the impression that it had already been sold. I'm thinking the developer is leasing it back to them until he is ready to start building. Either way it will be gone next year. But it is or was sold soley because of the Villages. He wasn't pushed out or anything. He's just smart enough to see the writing on the wall.
Im getting new neighbors and im nervous 😟. I think we need to designate more green areas, national parks etc. never to be built on. Grew up in Florida. Vacation only now. No thanks on living there again.
You’re not wrong, but certain events/political movements have definitely pushed a large faction of a certain type of people to FL. You can usually spot them from a mile away if you’re from here.
I work right by Dade City MX every Thursday and the future of that place isn’t looking great. A bunch of nothing land is being turned into subdivisions and they’re pushing East at a pretty fast pace.
I remember way back when that off roaders in CA used to blame that tree huggers for killing their riding areas to protect wildlife, now we have mxers railing on developers for endangering the wildlife. We’ve come full circle!
That's why i said non floridians wont understand. It's not like the state is getting a "little crowded".. it's getting overrun by people who have zero desire to maintain any of the culture or environment. When 471 is flooded with starbucks cups and jarritos you got yourself a different issue. Not to mention moving somewhere else and transplanting is a whole lot different than implanting. big difference.

I really do understand. The Villages is swallowing up land. But there's growth all over our country.
Although TV is spreading it's not like the sky is falling in Florida. It's a huge state with lots of rural land and small towns.
I've driven around the state quite a bit, I don't think you have to worry about rural Florida going away. In certain areas, yes it happens.
Btw, when Spyder closes Spyder 2.0 opens. So thats a push in my mind.
Sucks as a fan of the sport, and for Tyla having sunk so much $$ into the property and track facilities. Living in CA as an adult, I'm really sensitive to the pressures we face closing off access to riding.
That said, if folks actually read both the special use revocation letter, and the original letter approving the special use here, it may debunk the crazy neighbors or conspiracy theories. Huge difference between requesting a minor special use permit for personal use at your residence, and a major special use request. Let alone building a track so close to the property line and preexisting neighbor's home. Either poor legal advice, or poor judgement.
Having been blessed to ride on family's farm growing up, we never would have considered, or been allowed to ride or burn in a track so close to a neighbor, at least not on a regular basis without their expressed approval. That was just common sense and being a good neighbor for generations. Our rights usually end when they infringe upon others.
