it was close to ohio . I have some pictures i just have to dig them out.
Rausch Creek was the first real mx track I ever went to, so I have some real fond memories there. I'd do anything to ride there one last time. It's an off-road jeep park now I think? I never really heard why it closed.
This is a shot in the dark, but I see a lot of people posting about Happy Ramblers and the old Trail Ways track. Anyone ever been to this property to ride in Littlestown across from what I believe was the Kingsdale Fire Company building and right before the Maryland line. It was an open riding area with a couple of jumps and some trails. The old man that owned it died in like 2002, and that was the end of it. I'll never forget the summer droughts and seeing the dust cloud hovering in the air when you were getting close. A lot of people were always there, seeing if anyone here knows what I'm talking about? Had a lot of fun there as a kid.
Rausch Creek was a blast. They even hosted a GNCC there at one point. Not sure why it closed. We ride a RORR dual sport near there every year, actually ride right by where the track used to be. There is nothing really on the property, there was a job trailer there last year.

Rausch creek was my favorite spot growing up. Wasn't really into racing mx until after i left the area, so the open practice and trail options were prefect. It's now a 4x4 jeep park.

Fast forward about 20 years and now I live near Happy Ramblers. They've done a great job working in mulch and sand into that clay dirt.
We had season memberships and would go at least once a week.
The owner had told us they couldn't afford the insurance costs.
Before they closed, they were up to $75 a day to ride for nonmembers, this was 2006 ish?
Memberships went from $175 for a family to $400 a person.
Hardly anyone went there so they just didn't have the revenue. They needed to host more races.
Hurricane when Tom Hurd still owned it was the best. Before every other section turned into a supercross rhythm section. Was still a rock pit but way more safe and fun
Right next to the highway?
This was right off 194 if we're talking about the same place.
Yeah I did hear about the prices getting super expensive. When I first went there, it was only $25. The last time I was there was 2005, and I maybe got to go once a month because I couldn't drive yet and my parents worked a lot. I'd ride pretty much non stop until I was completely out of gas. What a bummer man, would love to have that place still around. Here's an old shirt I still hang onto from Rausch.
Yea, i'd be going there a lot if it were still open. The track that went into the woods was where i spent most of my time.
I remember those shirts.
Evansville used to be a hell of a track when I raced in the early 2000s. Definitely not a great track and They usually only filled half the gate but the track was like nothing in the area. Just the thought of looking at that one downhill sill gives me butterflies. Easily a 2 tire day. Sleepy was also a good place.
I bet we raced there a bunch together. How cool was that place when they had that monster uphill triple, then the kicker to the big downhill, that huge table top along the road, on top of the awesome elevation changes.
They really neutered that place.
That place was awesome! We used to go there a lot in the early to mid 2000’s. Loved that natural terrain track that went into the woods.
I rode at MX23 about a year and a half ago and had a lot of fun. Think it’s also gone by Rocket Raceway. My riding group also go to Breezewood a couple times a year because it’s got a lot of nice amenities that the ladies and kids are a fan of. Other than that we don’t ride in PA much anymore. Haven’t been to Happy Ramblers in years but would love to go again.
Does anyone remember the name of the track somewhere out in Fawn Township (Tarentum, PA), out past Lojak's place?
I seem to remember it was on a guy by the name of Putt Porter's property, and it was a hugely attended place back in the mid 70's.
Never raced there, but from what I recall it was a very hilly and rocky track, and the place was packed both with racers and fans.
I actually did the art for that shirt lol. Cool that you still have it.
My very first race ever was there in 73 or 74 . You’re correct on both— it was on Porters farm and was located just a couple miles from Lojaks Yamaha/Husky. I also don’t remember the official name , but we referred to it as both Porters farm Mx, and Fawn MX.
My all time favorite D5 track from that era was Penny Hollow Park. Beautiful dirt, elevation changes wide and a lot of the track wound in and out of the trees. A very Euro GP feel to it
Pit Row
Just remembered my dad used to ride at a private track in the woods near Chapman Lake up in Lackawanna County. This was late 90s, I don't know if the track had a name, but you can still makeout the track on google maps. It had some serious elevation changes, reminded me of the Unadilla amateur track.
I guess you have me by a couple of years age-wise Old Pro, but I agree with you. Penny Hollow is where it was at - great dirt and a sweet track. I started racing in '77 in 125C, and ended in '79 in 125A, after a pretty bad knee injury right before heading off to freshman year at college.
I was REALLY impressed with you guys out there at Fawn MX, and became convinced at first site that I needed to give MX a try.
Did well at Penny Hollow, but even better at Country Springs out near you in New Alexandria. I won on that track damn near but not every time there.
As you know, we had a hell of a lot of nice tracks in D5 back in the late 70's.
Country springs was very cool. Was only 25 minutes from my house. Yeah I may have you by a couple. Raced once or twice in 74. A little more in 75 , Full A schedule in 76 ,turned pro in 77 and retired in early 80 after breaking all my ribs twice in one season. Lol. Great stories on those
You are right about having some kick ass tracks in D5 back then. High Point, Hotshoe park, country springs, Harbor Woods, Rocky Ridge (kinda sucked) , Freedom Acres.
im sure you can remember how stacked the 125 A class was back then. Many times at Penny Hollow, we had to run qualifiers to get to a 40 man gate. Guys like Sammy Bosnic,Mark Garrison, Kevin Haberstroh, Gary Pustelak, Jimmy Knisley, Joe Gretchen, the Holbert brothers, Lynn Kirkland, Marty Potoczny , and me of course, lol. It was a great time to be racing in western Pa. — you need to start racing with us in Vintage AHRMA events. It’s honestly like rewinding our clocks and being back in the 70’s again. Waaaay too much fun
Wow that’s a throwback. Hell yeah.
I'm in King of Prussia and rode Dutchmen a couple times last year. It's a decent track with deep ruts. There are newer owners and they make an effort to groom half way through the day as every straightaway is full of ruts and the C riders struggle (I know I do).
I moved from Los Angeles about 2 years ago and would call Dutchman somewhat of a smaller track (medium sized for PA).
95% of my riding is at New Jersey Field of Dreams (NJFOD). It's the closest to CA quality I can find. Well groomed, good flow, larger track and bigger jumps. I'm used to LACR, Glen Helen, Perris, etc. NJFOD also isn't crazy rutted like the PA tracks I've been to. The PA rut tracks are like a whole different kind of riding compared to CA hardpack!
Dutchmen is worth the trip to mix things up on occasion or get REAL rut practice (also Sleep Hollow close by Dutchmen), but if I want to have a lot of fun and work on technique besides ruts....NJFOD it is.
I don’t understand why people seem obsessed with grooming tracks for ruts in PA. It was def not that way back in the 80s and 90s. You could go anywhere on the track and not stuck in a rut all the time.
Central PA is pretty lucky with tracks. Sleepy, Ramblers, Dutchmen, Pagoda, Shippensburg and back then Trailway (which was aweful) all with in and hour or so of the Harrisburg area.
what ruts?

this is at sleepy this past weekend.
it was my first race back from injury a year ago and the ruts were not fun.
I understand it when it’s been wet and rainy like last weekend but at 53, I hate ruts.
I think there is for sure a balance but in general I agree with you. There is a lot of social media talk about everyone wanting it ripped kind of deep, in this area. And I've seen tracks that don't prep that way get a lot of flak for it. I'm not sure why. I don't mind ruts but a lot of the dirt around here seems to really harden up as it dries, so the ruts become pretty dangerous as the day goes along. If it was constantly loamy then that would be 1 thing. But it's not, at least most places around here, unless they truck in a ton of sawdust or something. So to me, I would rather the tracks not rip it so deep and let the ruts form w/o getting too crazy. Usually that comes at the expense of more dust as the day goes along, so I realize it is a struggle. But I'm just a Plus 40 rider at this point, so it probably doesn't matter what I think lol. And with how hard our area has been hit with tracks closing, I try not to complain too much and just be happy there are places to ride.
The currents kids on 50s right now will be absolute monsters in the ruts by the time they're on big bikes.
Is that the same site that is now being called "The Oak Motocross Park"? They have a facebook presence, and are running an outlaw series this year with Rocket. Vintage too!
No the oak is a different track than this private one we were talking about.
