I thought I would join the conversation and share my 2023 YZ450F, I have only played around on it so far and haven't ridden properly.

It's definitely a lot smoother power delivery compared to the previous model! I look forward to more time on it!

Thankyou to everyone for the information in the post, it's been a good read !

Do yourself a favor and buy a set of 22 fork guards, they fit. The new 23 fork guard is different and hard to fit on there. My buddy installed one and it kept hitting his fork when pushed down. Apparently the device on the 23 has a small area for placement and it’s closer to the front wheel rather than in the middle.

Thanks for the tip 👍🏻 I have a set so I will use it. Found a template on a different website already.

ProTaper's site doesn't even have a template for the new fork guard anyway.

They are listed on the Information email from Yamaha Australia, but I'm unsure when they are ready for purchase here and in America, they didn't have a part number listed : A12EC93B-182E-4CC9-8A9B-6E31E0BC76C3

First ride yesterday. Very pleased so far but was not a good day to test a new bike- cold/windy/track changes. Question, for those of you that weigh around 185, are you sticking with stock springs? Definitely felt some break in stiffness to some extent. Front felt a little stiff, rear felt good overall but possibly a little under-sprung.

Haven't rode mine yet but if its anything like the last generation I found it took at least 5 hours for everything to break in. My 18,20 and 21 all felt stiff until around the 5 hour mark then were fine

Random:

Coyote Motorsports in Denver, CO, quoted me $12,900 OTD on Friday.

Vital member samcampbell lined me up with a new 2020 YZ450F delivered to me from out-of-state a few years ago for $8200 total ... is this kind of discount a thing of the past?

I'll be keeping my older model that's dialed and living vicariously through you guys for another year(s), but dang the 2023 is enticing!

Sending mine out today still haven’t decided between Enzo, Pr2, FC, for revalve n springs, I’m 220 lbs vet A level rider

Those days are gone I believe.

I'd sell mine for a couple grand cheaper than that quote tho.

Just got mine this weekend 🥳

After years of riding Honda it’s time to try something else. Just waiting for some good weather here in the Netherlands.

Airfilter system looks fine, just curious how the system is doing by the others? Read an article from MXA where they put the airfilter system in their ‘hate list’. It looks better than the Honda system for me…

Interested to hear your review. I have a Honda now and thinking about switching.

Just had my first (brake-in) ride yesterday. Felt home on it within a few laps. Just a few things I want to change. Handlebars are very low (my opinion). After two sessions I swapped the original with a Renthal 604. It was very hard to shift. But that also could by caused by my new boots. I moved the shifter up one tooth and that helped a lot. But still not as easy to shift as my last Honda (crf450 2022). Chassis comfort is noticeable better than the Honda (and it hasn’t been broken in yet!). Suspension was a little stiff for my weight (but 158lbs). I’ve contacted several suspension companies and all are suggesting different spring rates for the fork… 4.7, 4.8 and 4.9. I decided to order 4.8 and 56. I will install them next week and hopefully I can try them next week…. Weather here is quite depressing this week.

sorry if it was discussed before, but long thread.

Is the riding triangle significantly improved for taller riders (6ft+)? Easier to go from sitting to standing and keeping balls of feet on the pegs?

Curious if it will be beneficial to get the '24 (250F) because of this or keep my '22

I have 12 hrs on the 23 and on the first two air filter changes I saw that it almost sucked dirt under the filter/ air box seal. I use bio oil so didn't want to use a non bio grease and didn't have any. Ordered a Pro Seal for it from PC Racing but didn't get here in time for the race weekend. (They don't have a pre cut so you have to cut your own). So in the mean time I took a fender washer, bent one side up, drilled a hole in it and bolted it to the air box front mounting hole. Than  slid a zip tie through the drilled hole ,put another zip tie through the first zip tie and went around the top filter post on the cage and tightened it down to seal the filter tighter to the air box. Ended up solving the problem. IMG 20230223 142046339Kind of tricky to explain, will try to post a pic.

You can also do it on this way to pull the strap tighter.8D4EE4CA-7C33-4060-BA7F-E30A0B27A078

That's a good fix as well! I thought about putting a zip tie around the strap before sliding it through the slot in the air box to shorten the strap  but haven't tried that yet.

Finally made up my mind n sent my suspension to Craig Decker at Enzo. Anyone have any “revalve reviews “?

For those of you that have been riding the bike any tips, tricks or concerns with the new air filter design. Never been a big grease guy so I tried the pro seal but I'm concerned that may actually make the seal worse. With the pro seal the ridge that sticks up and creates that indentation like barrier on the air filter is almost non existent as it fills in that gap and almost makes it flush. Any thoughts or pointers would be create the snow is melting and im hoping to get out and ride here in a few weeks

Did you read my tip above? It pulls it very tight now. I’m not concerned anymore about dirt getting past the seal edge.

Thanks yeah I did. I was just trying to source as many opinions as possible. I'm excited to ride the bike but not really in love with this air filter design.

The primary issue with the air filter design is the fact that its not easy to get in or out. The jostling required to get a dirty filter out leads to debris making its way on to the throttle body. It’s happened to me just about very time I’ve replaced the filter, no matter how dirty is was. The reason why this wasn’t as much an issue with the last gen was due to the fact that the filter lifted off the screen very easily. It never required any effort and it was very easy to get it out of the bike without consequence

Hoping that someone comes up with a solid solution because this will be a source of headaches for this new bike otherwise.

I lay my bike on the left side so if dirt does fall it’s just sitting on the side of the air boot.

That sure seems like an unnecessary shit design to me . That being said I might still get one .

You can pre-order Cycra Stadium plates. I emailed support and got a few ordered. They say they will be shipped next week! 🤘🏽

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea to be sure. Still not pumped to have to do it that way but I suppose there’s little choice
