To rev or not to rev?

I've always loved the lug or low rev style of riders like Roczen. They sound like they're going slow but they're flying.

Barcia and Deegan are at the other end of the spectrum. Where you guys at?

Depends on the powerband of the specific bike. I have more fun revving a bike out though, that's for sure. It can upset the chassis on certain bikes though, like 2017 YZ450, which I liked to lug that bike

Whatever puts them up front right. Who are we to say how they rev their bikes? That's like saying handlebars low or high...full waffle or half waffle, 22mm or 24mm?

There is a effective way to ride the bike and get the suspension to work good, and then there is reving.

it’s rare to see the idiot reving riders at the highest step on the podium.

This.

Revvers are clueless

Spending a fortune  on light wheels and rotating parts and then revving it to the moon is dumb.

Science is great . .

A 450 handles a hell of a lot better at 7000 RPM's compared to 10,000.

Having grew on on 125s I found myself revving and clutching my 450 as a matter of habit. As the years went on a learned to lug the engine and use less clutch..

Whatever works. No question Barcia and Kenny were the fastest dudes on the track, but you could only hear one of their bikes.

Lugging for me. I moved up from 250s because I dont like how they have to be ridden (we deal with a moderate amount of sand here). I get uncomfortable and tight when reving a bike out for some reason, cant relax.

I always loved listening to a fast pro ride a 125 2-stroke around a track while seemingly never letting off the throttle... music to my ears.

Thx Bro. It sounds like I have it pinned but I actually operate below the ovr rev in the upper mid- top end.  But it does sound sweet I agree.

So when a 125 two-stoke is revved to the moon throughout the track, (ala Darren Durham) it's music to our ears, but a 250F rider doing the same thing, it's not the right thing to do? I'm confused and waiting for the downvotes.

I was at Mini O's 2008. I have Barcia's Rev limiter nightmare's.

As a spectator, it’s a bit more exciting with the extra noise (watching fast pro guys that actually have the speed).

A 250f have a LOT broader power band than a 125.

When you ride around on the rev limiter on a four stroke you have passed the sweet spot between max hp and max torque a long time ago and the bike is just slower at that RPM..

I still feather the clutch and otherwise ride my 450 like it's a 125 even though I know it is the completely wrong way to ride it. I can't help myself. I'm surprised I don't look at my own roost as well.

125 2 strokes and 250F's have no power, so you have to rev them

Anything bigger, and the crank weight  and all the spinning mass makes is affect the bike massively.

What's the point of a rev limiter if you never use it?

Sometimes I lug it, sometimes my 450 is at 10,000+rpm. I never really feel a difference in handling based on rpm, terrain and wheel speed will definitely affect it though.

You have no choice but to rev a 125, there’s no real low to mid power. A 250f can be really fast without living on the rev limiter and a 450 can be really, really fast and never touch the rev limiter.

Stank dog put a smaller carb on his 125 for more torque.

3rd gear half throttle is faster than 2nd gear wide open.

Yep smaller diameter carb will improve throttle response and grunt.
But big bore carbs are hp kings, however only good for flat track riders or James Stewart.

The crazy part about Stewart is he never over revved his 125. He even tuned it to have more torque and gave up 1.5 ponies to the PC125's. MXA did a story on Stews 125.

That guy rode his 125 a gear high with no finger on the clutch.
