Exactly, they are incompetent. World Supercross is a result of their incompetence. If Feld ran a good show, competition likely would have never popped up.

It was the most people I have ever seen at a Dallas/Arlington supercross, however, supercross will never "sellout" ATT stadium.

Perhaps their version of sold-out is, every ticket they wanted to sell, was purchased, and did not mean that every seat was purchased.

Yeah the stadium wasn’t anywhere near capacity. Even my kid was asking me why the upper deck was empty.

I've always thought the live show at the sx races was really good.  I also think the TV production is pretty good.

Overall standing on the screen at least occasionally for outdoor and triple crown events would help the average fan follow along.

Other than that I think it's pretty good.

Yes, Feld doesn't treat a high-performance athletic event as a sport. That's the problem. Telling people to shut up and not complain about isn't helpful.

Arlington was a long way from a sell out. None of the top ring of seats were even offered for sale.

My guess is that that trend will get worse. I don’t pay for streaming so I do not see any advertisement for the races on TV anymore.

Arlington was the most packed I have seen it for supercross in at least the last 10 years, granted the top level wasn't open, but the bottom 3 levels were packed as well as all the suits. I would guess around 50-60K people.  We were tail gating in lot 11 across from the pits, and the line to get in at noon went all the way out the parking lot, down the street around the corner and up the next street (just 1 of the lines).

Ill give FELD some credit, they advertised a lot more then usual in the local area, even had mentions on local news friday and saturday morning.  so they got the people out.

It's not uncommon to leave the upper bowl empty to cut down on stadium staffing costs at events like SX.

How did we get this far in this thread with no mention of the AMA?

AMA is still involved in SX as the sanctioning body, correct?  I assume Feld pays the AMA to retain these services?

If Feld did not consider SX a "sport", what is to stop them from telling the AMA to pack their bags and go home?  Why do they continue to retain the AMA as a sanctioning body?  They could just award "Feld Championships" instead of "AMA Championships".

It is uncommon to accounce an event was soldout when it was 40K(ish) short of selling out.

Where did they announce it was a sellout? I've always tried to find attendance numbers for SX but can't find mention of it anywhere.

Some of y’all just hate Feld. Always have and always will. Nothing they do will make you happy.

Personally, I think Feld has done a relatively good job with our weird, niche sport.

I don’t know anything about last weekends attendance numbers but sold out means every ticket was sold, not every seat in the building. I don’t think half the upper deck is even available because why pay to staff it if nobody is even there. Also keep in mind not everyone who bought a ticket actually goes to the event.

I think they said it on the broadcast.

Lots of events are sold out without full seats thanks to stubhub and other 3rd party resellers.

Ah that makes sense, I generally tune out the broadcast.

It's still a fake sellout though because if there were seats available that were not used, then money was left on the table. It's similar when you see some of the "limited production" brands that always "sellout". They plan on selling out and never tell you how many were available. They could have made two and sold both. It's often used as a marketing tool.

I personally don’t give a shit who does what and why they do it. The tv production is an embarrassment to the sport I’m passionate about. I could give a rats ass about stick and ball sports but have you ever watched a game and thought holy hell these announcers are on crack or why did they show a replay during a play? No, they’re fairly professional sounding and are smart enough to wait until a play is over to show highlight reels. It’s ridiculous no matter how you slice it. Big business or not, if you fuck up your product enough people won’t buy it. I’m a huge fan and don’t miss a race (pro or my own) and I’m eventually just gonna bail and catch the write up on a website, you know, like the “cycle news” days.

FELD is a publicly traded company and the C suite only has a fiduciary responsibility to make their stock holders happy. They don't have to care about anything else

The factories want AMA/FIM involvement . If Feld could go without the AMA and keep the factories , they probably would .

Feld has the only property that really matters in Supercross.  They have contracts with all the major stadiums.

If those properties were available for lease, without any non-competes, there would be a competing Supercross series.  And purses would increase along with the quality of the event.

But they aren't and THAT is why Feld has a monopoly on Supercross in the U.S.  And that won't change because they are a valuable renter of all those exclusive properties.

It certainly isn't because they put on the best competition events.

That is ridiculous.  What made WSX viable  is the influx or free money from the Saudi govt “investment” firm to the tune of $50 million. Without that, there is no WSX attempted.  The WSX guys don’t have to succeed with that kind of money upfront.  But it has nothing to do with incompetence.  It doesn’t take a genius to realize there are MX fans all around the world who will attend SX races near them if they exist.  There’s an NFL Europe, it doesn’t exist because the US NFL is incompetent.

Making supercross better and stockholders happy are not mutually exclusive things. If they keep doing what they are doing, they will eventually run Supercross into the ground. Stockholders won't be happy then. And now they also have competition to contend with, which many can't see it now, but really could be the nail in the coffin for Field. I welcome competition because it is the best motivator to improve the product.

It's irrelevant where the money comes from. They saw a market opportunity and I guarantee part of that was because of the dissatisfaction with Supercross. It's worrisome for Feld that they have a huge budget, but good for us fans.

I feel everything you are saying and agree the production needs vast improvement, but it is vastly easier to wait for a break to show replays since there actually are breaks in other sports.  In a SX main event, there is no break and replays are important.  Football for example has far more time not playing than actually playing so that makes sense.  The announcers on the other hand are a complete embarrassment, especially RC and the dude from RaceDay Live.

Agree mostly but the races are short enough that it would be ok to wait and show replays in between races. And if not, the replays should at least always be picture in picture. And I just can't for the life of me understand the interface where a huge portion of the screen is background.

There are a lot of fans of Supercross that seem to think they are entitled to seeing changes in the broadcast, and even the racing. Whether it’s because you pay for Peacock, because you support the industry, or what have you-if you’re one of those entitled fans, allow me to educate you on why Feld Entertainment doesn’t care about your opinion. This is not going to be sugar coated, you’re not going to like it. But hopefully I can change some perspectives and more people can be happy just seeing Supercross for what it is.

Feld Entertainment is the owner and promoter of Monster Energy Supercross. They also own Monster Jam, Disney on Ice, Marvel Live, and Jurassic World Tour. What is different about the other properties of theirs when compared to Supercross? They’re not considered sports. Not by fans of the events, not by Feld, not by anyone. Unfortunately, the same can actually be said for Supercross. Supercross to Feld is not a sport. They don’t treat it like a sport, they haven’t since they acquired it, and never will. They aren’t in the business of professional sports, they never have been and never will be. They are in the entertainment business, and Supercross is an entertainment event. To them, you are paying to watch Disney on Ice for dirt bikes. And also unfortunately for us, Supercross likely receives a single digit percentage of the viewership that Disney on Ice does.

So what does this mean? It means that all they care about is profit margin. As they should of course, they’re a business. And the sport has gotten more popular over the last few years. It has grown while we’ve been complaining. That’s because they don’t see us complaining, they don’t hear us complaining, they don’t care that we complain. We are a bunch of red necks consuming content and products at Feld’s benefit. They see us paying for Peacock to watch their event, and they see their profit margin increasing. Every decision they make, or don’t make, is to grow and/or help retain that profit margin. Decisions like cutting Semi’s to run more commercials, moving over to streaming and not paying for live TV slots, Triple Crowns to boost new viewer engagement, SMX to compete with WSX, it’s all smart business. They know you, the hardcore fan, will watch anyway. We’ve proven that. So what am I getting at?

My goal in explaining this is so that next time you wonder why they don’t fix something, you don’t have to wonder. Because, regardless of these facts, we can still be fans and enjoy Supercross for what it is: a show. I still do. It’s not that I don’t wish SX could be the F1 of dirt bikes, it’s that I know as long as Feld runs the show, it won’t be.

Now, with that being said, what are your options? You only have two. Stop watching, or accept that your expectations will never be met and enjoy it for what it is. That’s all!

Dave Prater and crew give a shit, they love this sport too. Feld Ent. may be on the paycheck but the races are run by Supercross people. Yer whole spiel is fairy dust speculation.

Carry on.
