Anyone that’s had their bike awhile has the suspension broken in? I’m 215 n have about 2 hrs on mine and boy is this thing feel stiff!  From what I’ve been told I need stiffer springs front n rear, but this stock stuff feels so stiff! Anyone get a revalve yet? If so by who and what’s your opinion afterwards?

Your riding too low in the stroke causing it to feel harsh. You need stiffer springs.

Picked up a new one last week.  Does anyone know if the wheelsets from 2021 changed?  Looking to put some older Dubya wheels I yanked off the old bike.  Apologies if it's already been covered in the 30-page thread..

Wheels from 2021 YZ450F = compatible with 2023 YZ450F.

So, this is the first bike with electric start I’ve owned and having some issues… since the day I bought it, it takes a few minutes to start up. With the choke on or off, nothing really helps. It’s broke in, with about an hour and half on it.

I hold the starter on for about 5 seconds (at most) at a time, and eventually after about 10-15 attempts it’ll finally start. And when it does finally start it’s instant. I only have to press it for no more than a second and it fires right up as it should. It starts up fine after it’s warm too. Only one time when it was cold I tried to bump the starter, then try to start it, and it actually started right up. I thought that was the trick but it hasn’t worked since.

Any advice?

You prob already know this, and may do this.  I am not a mechanic.

When starting bike, depress starter button for a split second then release, this allows the fuel pump to cycle.  I usually wait 2-3 seconds, then press starter button, I do not give any gas / throttle, and she normally fires up.  If weather is cold, I use the choke.

Sorry to hear about your challenges.

For '23 Air filters, go to Dominus site, on top of page enter '23 Yam 450F, click enter, on far left, click on the Brand / Twin Air category, presto... the correct '23 airfilters will appear below.

I wont be of much help but something's definitely wrong. Mine pops off quicker than any e start bike I've had in the past. Cold or not.

I have 12 hrs on the 23 and on the first two air filter changes I saw that it almost sucked dirt under the filter/ air box seal. I use bio oil so didn't want to use a non bio grease and didn't have any. Ordered a Pro Seal for it from PC Racing but didn't get here in time for the race weekend. (They don't have a pre cut so you have to cut your own). So in the mean time I took a fender washer, bent one side up, drilled a hole in it and bolted it to the air box front mounting hole. Than  slid a zip tie through the drilled hole ,put another zip tie through the first zip tie and went around the top filter post on the cage and tightened it down to seal the filter tighter to the air box. Ended up solving the problem. IMG 20230223 142046339Kind of tricky to explain, will try to post a pic.

Yeah, the twin air filter seems to curl up on the top corners some. I also had sand halfway through the lip. I added some grease around the top corners for now.

Maybe low idle or too much oil in filter? Mine starts better than older models.

good decision or bad? Please answer with an honest opinion if its better or worse....

I really like my Ktm 450 except i cant get it to stop rattling my hands numb, and my lower back pain exists after i ride it.... and i have noticed it has gotten progressively worse over the last year and i have been on 22 ktm 350 and 19 450sxf Both have stock suspension.... and its been resprung... but i dont think thats the issue.... I honestly belive its the damn mountain bike frame it has.

so in order try my best at fixing this.... i was gonna go out and purchase one of these bikes and mybe test back to back....

If you are on neken/stock handlebar, replace with Pro taper Husqvarna FC/MX bar.

Vibration issue gone.

For your arms/hands/back, I've found the following to work well:

XC Gear's MAKO 360 bar mounts, FasstCo's vibration dampening bar-end inserts, FasstCo's Flexx bars, Pro Taper ACF bars, Twisted Engineering carbon fiber bars (I can't speak to the other products that are working for others).

For your legs/feet/back:

I've found XC Gear's Spurz footpegs (heavy AF!) to help as well as FasstCo's Impact pegs.

Other mods can also help (e.g. FCP engine mounts), but starting with where you directly contact the motorcycle and experimenting with isolation there is a great, direct start.

KTM is a good bike for sure.  But I recently rode a new YZ and was blown away at how much less it vibrated compared to my 22 350 with XTrig ROC clamps (with the softest inserts), and Protaper evo bars.

I fell into the “just keep adding parts” trap that so many KTM folks do.  Great bike but I’m in a lot of money.  I fixed the problem today, just bought a new YZ.

I have a 22 350 also . It doesn't vibrate that much but I do run Emig pro 2 lock ons . I tried glue on grips and it brought back vibration. That said the ktm's sure do vibrate more than KX or Yz's . I'll wait for the new KX450 to come out . I rode a buddy's 23 ktm 450 and holy shit my teeth almost fell out.

Anyone revalve their suspension yet? Would like to hear some reviews on revalves. Im currently looking into pr2 , enzo, factory connection. Im 215 all 3 say I need stiffer springs. Currently riding the bike I feel as though the suspension is really stiff as is, looking for a plusher ride n keep the great bottoming resistance.

RT - You think it's too stiff for the clayton type pits at your speed? I'm in Fla and seems good for the croom area pit n super whooped out trails. I'm same weight but not as fast as you. Small stuff seems stiff but turns great at 3mm fork height. I think if I go softer fork spring, it will knife in soft turns.  How much time do you have on it?

Grease your air filter!

Both of you are too soft already.  You need a stiffer spring rate to stay up in the stroke. It will actually feel plusher. Doubly true if your riding sand tracks.

I sure hope not since I don't believe anyone is offering an oem replacement spring let alone a stiffer alternative.

My clutch started slipping at about 5 hours. I’m at 7 hours now and the bike is parked until I can find parts. Nobody who makes clutches or clutch parts can give me a definitive answer as to when they might be available 👎

I’m a clutch abuser to be sure so premature clutch wear is something I’m used to, but I normally get about 25 to 30 hours out of a clutch. This is a new record for me 🏆

KTM clutch plates should work.

I’ve heard the same rumors but wouldn’t repeat it without knowing for sure. Rekluse says they are similar but not the same.

I wonder if the ktm Belleville spring is compatible?  And if it’s stiffer?

I'm not sure if the spring is my problem or not. My issues started after installing a new WC perch and not paying close enough attention to the cable tension during a sandy moto. I'll happily take the L for being a dummy if it means this clutch isn't shit. The sooner I can get parts, the sooner I'll know for sure 🤷‍♂️

Curiously enough, Rekluse makes custom components to furnish Star Yamaha (Tomac specifically) with traditional coil spring clutches. Word is they're considering making enough to sell them as an aftermarket option to replace the belleville spring design. Would you buy one? I absolutely would if my clutch was smoked after 7 hours. I have 4 hours at the moment with no problem. I'm not a clutch abuser so I'm hoping for many more with no issues.

I certainly would if it were a more reliable option. I don’t care what kind of clutch my bike has in it so long as it’s not ridiculously priced and I don’t have to change it every 5 hours 👍

That would do it for sure. The only thing that kills a clutch is heat, and slipping under full power is the quickest way to get it hot.

But if the belleville truly is weak and allowing it to slip, that would overheat it just the same.

Curious to see how a new clutch pack works out for you.

I’ll be sure and report back my findings, hopefully sooner than later. If the clutch works for me with my bad habits, it should work for just about anyone.
