Tomac doing Tomac things

When was that? Which “race” or gang bang ?

He did it the first 4-5 laps of the first race but stopped and didn’t attempt it again after he made that bobble on the following rhythm 

Awesome! You would think the production crew or announcers would have picked up on that….

I can't believe people think it's cool to call a triple crown a gang bang.

Tomac already seems a bit burnt out. The confort zone of Sexton and Webb is better. He is getting old and it start to show. Daytona will tell. I don't trust in the new Yami yet either. Bike is better everywhere but whoops. When I saw him at Bercy trough the whoops, I get it directly. He will have some crashes too in outdoor. Stampe it. Way more volatile bike than the very stable pig. Like RC said, this is uncharacteristic compared to the last year. New bike is always a struggle.

Yamaha probably offered him too much money to say no.

If the track is slick he is not as good right now. It could be the bike differences from last year or just not wanting to push it.

There we some saying before the season started that the new YZ was not all that great and ET and DF were having issues with it.

Ya the money thing. That’s why he took a pay cut going to yamaha too? Because he wants more money?

Eli said himself he was under enormous pressure to commit to SMX over, presumably, WSX and wanted out from that stress, so said yes to a deal.

WCRider said it; he is getting more cautious, and his recent string of get offs and bobbles are a sign.

Having a contract weighted to reward him for wins could be making him more money at Yamaha. So you really think just the 'joy' of racing made him totally change his mind? The guy had been very clear for months that he was not going to do the nationals.

Yamaha knows he is the only rider they have that could possibly win the whole deal so they came up with the cash to help him change his mind.

Tomac has been disappointing lately. I understand he’s still the points leader. But damn I keep waiting for beast mode every time Sexton passes him. Almost seems like he’s hiding an injury or he isn’t there mentally.

No beast mode for a while now. I still say that crash got in his head. We will see if Daytona can shake it out of there. Big crashes mess with every rider. Some never get back to where they were before. Ask Reed. He was leading the Nationals until the Chadapult and was never the same after.

That line is so awesome seeing it from that close.  The power of the bikes and talent of these guys is just unreal and clips like that are the best.

Just a conversation...that is what happens in a discussion. Tomac is great. No one ever said he wasn't.

You're not giving enough credit for the speed of the other riders in Sexton and Webb.  And honestly, Webb doesn't have the raw speed, especially in the whoops.  What keeps Webb in these races are when the conditions of the track are so fucked, that's where he's so good - like when the whoops get so EF'd up he jumps through them as fast or faster than they can be skimmed.  When whoops are tough but skimmable, Webb can't run the pace.  When the track becomes super gnarly, that is where Webb excells.  Tomac is likely still working out some settings issues on the really clapped out track surface races.  I expect to see normal Eli next weekend.

You must have literally been sitting within 10 feet of me. I was in section 118 row 10. Saw Eli pull that 3-4 times in a row. It was cool to see Kenny do it a few times as well when he was following Eli. Eli really had to stretch it out to make it so he likely felt it wasn’t worth it.

The jump out of the corner is impressive. The fact he made that section look like he was doing it all day in practice flawlessly first try is what leaves me completely amazed. 

The corner speed needed to make that gap is insane.

I thought this thread was going to be about Tomac dropping anchor and going backwards after a pretty small slide out. Reminded me of his Kawi days.

He cased it once and then stopped. But dude was that a sweet line for a few laps!

The thread title left it open for much thought. Yes, why did Tomac drop anchor? He was not that far back. Seems weird.

He also seemed to get up really slowly. At A1 he fell and got going quickly then charged to the front and won. Same guy?

His jump was amazing though. Thanks for posting that.

When Tomac is on he will go for the win. When he is not feeling it because the track, bike setup, etc he is just cruising it to make sure he doesn't screw up and lose a crazy amount of points before the half way point of the series. 

Some people say he is a "head case" but he's really just taking a chapter from the RC and RD playbook. No doubt you'll see beast mode Tomac in a few more rounds and probably this weekend too just cause it's Daytona.
