Chase Sexton is only in his second season in the 450 Class and his results are much better than Eli Tomac's early years in the 450 Class.  Eli Tomac started racing 450's in 2014 and struggled several seasons with injuries and being the bridesmaid to Ryan Dungey and Cooper Webb until he won the 450 title in 2020.  Kinda funny how some people are baggin on Chase Sexton's crashes, but he and Eli gave us one of the best battles for motocross championship in 2022.  I think Chase is doing incredible for only his second season in the 450's.

I think Chase has been on a 450 since 2020 outdoors. I like him and I expect multiple championships in his future. I was just having some fun with my original post.

I don't think Chase Sexton moved up to the 450 class Supercross until the 2022 Season, so it's only the start of his second season in the premier class.  I just think people are being a little unrealistic in their criticism of him, while singing the praises of Eli Tomac, which he deserves, BUT! he had his struggles just like Ricky Carmichael and Ryan Villopoto had when they moved up from the lites class in SX.

So Chase's crash looked pretty gnarly, was he banged up a little bit? I thought he would have just thrown all caution out to try to catch ET3. Does he have a beast mode to make up time?

Instead of simply calling the race as it unfolds.

I think that's what leads to him getting so tongue tied half the time he opens his mouth.

from my vantage point on the couch Id tell him to do more with his legs and hips to control the bike and not be so far over the front fender all the time. plessinger was doing it well at oakland

Chase should've won hands down, unfortunately I swapped Tomac for him for the win in my RM fantasy pics at the last second. Sorry Chase.

Chase has basically won two races in a row now except for errors he should not have made. I expect a win from him very soon.

I fell in love with your riding style. The flawless way you flow through rhythm sections and corners just made my heart race. But you have let me down so many times, I have to move on. I'm seeing Cooper Webb now.

Maybe it's your friends. Maybe you should move to a new town, like KTMville and meet new people. But I think you need to better yourself. I still love you and wish you the best, as a friend.

You’ll get called a headache and a ho for pulling a move like that.

While you guys have a valid point, I for one kinda enjoy hearing Ricky get into it. Good to see that he still enjoys racing, and you can tell that the actual racing is what drove him to be the BEST. He definitely isn't the best talent wise on the mic, but damn if he isn't an all time hero on a dirt bike. If Feld would put Wiegandt, Ricky, and James in the booth with JT on the floor it would be epic.

Yea, people have short memories. Anyone remember, "Tomac's gonna Tomac"? Now the guy just tied the GOAT in SX wins. Chase will be fine, he's got all the tools he needs to be great, he's just got to get his mental game and race craft dialed-in and he'll be a force.

Whatever way you swing it, the guy is obscenely fast. Just a shame he's an absolute floor-seeking-missile right now.

Maybe all the talk is compounding the issue and building it up even more in his head, maybe he's just too damn fast to be reliable, maybe he's just still getting his ducks in a row... who knows.

Great style, incredible speed, good dude, so I really hope he gets a handle on it. For his own sanity's sake, more than all of us who want to see him get the job done.

Chase doesn’t seem to have the confidence (or the sense) to realize he can back it off a hair when the track is going off and still win.

JS did the same things, always had to prove he was the fastest by a wide margin and frequently crashed as a result.

It seems like Chase needs to realize that Eli is an all timer and when you’re gapping him by that much you’re probably going too damn fast. At least my opinion anyway. Jett seems to have mastered the smooth getaway.

On the other hand......to beat Eli or Webb for sure......You need to break them.  Slowing down and letting them stay within 2 seconds is a terrible strategy when it comes to Eli and ESPECIALLY Webb.  Chases crashes are not NEARLY as spectacular as JS's.  You're right with JS.  He could have slowed down and won.  I think if Chase slows down Eli and Webb would pounce at the end.

Very true. I just hope he doesn’t hurt himself in the process. He’s carrying some serious speed and some of his offs have been scary.

Attainable speed vs sustainable speed. Sometimes, faster isn't faster.

I’m torn between your view and that maybe when Chase gets out front his mind maybe wanders a little bit after putting in X amounts of repeated laps. I remember hearing Ryno say something about hitting whoops in a SX race and thinking about the cheeseburger he was going to eat later that night.

Maybe these guys really do need ADHD med's.

I'm rooting for Tomac. BUT I really feel for Sexton. He just needs to iron out those mistakes. He's going to be "the guy" once Tomac decides to retire. And we all know he wants to beat him while he's here. Given the circumstance, once he gets that 4+ second lead he should back it down and maintain it. See how much he can back off and still maintain the lead. THAT'S how you win titles. Like I said, he's goin to be "The Guy" going forward. He just needs that fine tuning and it just might be like when Ricky finally beat Mcgrath and never let him win again..

I know I'll be called crazy, but I look at it like this...

Chase has more podiums than Eli and Cooper. That tells me that the crashes aren't that much of an issue. Are they ideal? No.

It is by no means a disaster though. If he got up in Oakland and got fourteenth? Yeah, that would mean they are catastrophic...

If Chase figures it out, how do the others stop him? Chase's "issue" is in his control and that must be comforting to an extent.

The problem with the crashes is, how bad is it going to be? Because one of these times he's gonna crash hard and miss a few races and title hopes gone. He needs to back it down somewhere.

Backing it down could actually be the problem.  It's very possible he gets a gap and "slows down" or simply loses focus.

Only Chase truly knows. Maybe he was feeling the pressure to gap Tomac a little more. Maybe he felt distracted by an earlier near-crash. Maybe he's got other things to think about. It just seems like he has crashed out of the lead too many times for this to be a random occurrence.

The guy is 23 and on any given day is the fastest man in the world on a dirt bike, shits gonna happen when you haul that much ass all the time. I have confidence he will get it under control, but I think Falcon is right. Having Tomac as his main rival is a heavy load mentally, I bet you see him excel when Tomac retires and he knows full well he is the man to beat.

Use their own strategy and follow them the whole race then pass at the end.  That’s how you break them and it’s easier to follow, which is why they do. Push them into a mistake instead of making the mistake.  He’s trying the MC strategy ti sprint away but that needs to be followed by gapping then cruising.  MC gapped then cruised.

Like they say, to be the Man! you got to beat the Man! or wait until he retires.  It was that way with James Bubba Stewart where in practice he'd have the fastest laps and then when it came to race time Ricky Carmichael would beat him down for the Championship and Bubba didn't start having Championship success in the 450 class until Ricky rode off into retirement.  Now you have Chase Sexton who has the fastest lap times and speed in practice, but he falls apart under pressure by Eli Tomac in the main event.  I believe Chase Sexton with a little more experience in the 450's will have plenty of success, whether it's on a Honda or KTM or wherever.

As long as someone else doesn't come along at just that time and believe that he is the man to beat.

Chase needs to solidify his status, ASAP.

If Chase does go orange how does the Bakers factory and dad situation turn out?James has said Chase prefers to follow family over a riding coach or trainer. Chase may want to think about HRC as they let him do whatever he wants. Roger and Ian may want the dad to step aside.

Chase has been running in the top 3 in almost every race for the past 14 months, he is going to be ok.

A ton of racing still left in the 23 SX series.
