He took a few hits of this at the start of the Big Buck GNCC. Is it for some kind of asthma condition?

If it's what I think it is, it's canned oxygen. No idea how it works, but I've seen people using it when they climb Mt. Fuji (14k+ ft.) over here.

Yeah its canned oxygen, you see NFL players putting on oxygen on the sidelines sometimes as well, how much it actually helps I dont know. I know that company sponsors atleast the Pro- Am Yamaha team.

We were at the race Sunday since it was only an hour away, the speed these guys are at is not even the same sport as when I race a local harescramble. Just bouncing off the rev limiter in the woods they are full throttle any opportunity even if its for only 10 feet.

You can buy it at Lowes. It is often in the center of the isle in a carboard stand.

Hes a big boy but I think partly is just his build, dont let him fool you he trains his ass off super strong and fit just has a little extra weight to get that rear tire hooking up. He has a big training facility in SC and pretty often is doing 2 hour motos on the moto track. That being said he can certainly drink some beer, ran into him at the DH world cup at Snowshoe a couple years back and he was a good time.

Efficiency of movement, incredible skill. Sport specific training. Energy reserves for all day races. KR557 showed us the difference in energy requirements in running 3hr GNCC vs motos at the top level.

could he be better? Most likely. Going full RC has negative consequences too

That is interesting. Pure oxygen hits are legal? Yet IV is illegal……..hmmm

Yep I'm sure that's what it is but reading around it seems that its use in sports is for recovery from exertion rather than in preparation for it. So I can't see the benefit in using it on the start line myself.

I did the Oregon 24 last year, nearly everyone had cans of oxygen, six packs - crazy.

Dad used to tell me that his crew chief could tell who had a little too much fun the night before, and would get the oxygen going ASAP before strapping the A/C to their ass.

Real or imagined, they thought it helped hangovers.

That’s funny, you can find a pic of him sucking on a can of Busch Light as he’s being interviewed.

Helmet fins, hologram bracelets, energy drinks, forearm strong clamp thing, and now oxygen in a can Grinning The placebo effect is very real in MX/SX

He should have turned the can around so the label was visible. And placebos can  work, lol.

I don't know about being a placebo. Inhaling pure oxygen will definitely have some effect on your body. Whether it is performance enhancing, IDK.

I'd expect a bit of instant loss of brain fatigue. But I doubt it would last long on one breath. Maybe like a smelling salt but less harsh/intense?

Also, oxygen toxicity is a thing, so you'd have to be careful inhaling pure or nearly pure oxygen. I have no idea what their recommendations are for how much and how often.

I understand the IV issue to be not every racer has the means to have a medical professional administer IVs, so it benefits the riders already on top teams.

Like stated before really good for recovery especially at altitude but doesn't stay in system long enough to have any kind of benefit in a long moto. Football players use it a lot on sideline like after a running back make a long run and he's sucking wind gets him ready to go back in quicker
