Herlings said his best year with KTM was over 2 mio a year and he still has had multiple personal sponsorships for years. Same for Coldenhoff, he has been paid very well by Yamaha the last few years but he still has personal sponsorships.

I don't think Evans is making much since he is in a prove it year, but him seeking personal sponsorship doesnt say anything about how good or bad it is in MXGP.

Was the 2mil Herlings got just from KTM or was it including his personal sponsors too?

Old mate is way off. This interview is from about 2 years ago. He said his best earning season was 2018 and it was 4.5million euro. That was before winning the 2021 title.

He's also (relatively) good with his money too. Think he owns about 80 houses which is pretty cool and well deserved.

Pretty sure it was said on MX vice podcast a few months back that CV may be the single rider for the team.

Speaking of Gebben, I believe Jasikonis is doing his own thing (predominantly in Lithuania but maybe some MXGP).

I know of one team that spoke to him and he was adamant that he wanted to do his own program – seems he's all in on that.

Generally in The Netherlands when we say “including tax” we mean tax is already paid on that figure.

I remembered it as in around 4 million before tax, meaning roughly 2 million after. But it looks like it was 4.5 after tax based on that screenshot.

It doesnt really matter much to why i said it. The point was that even a guy that makes a million or more is still having personal sponsorships, so looking at personal sponsorships doesnt mean you don't get money from the team.

A couple of things...

- I'm 90% certain that round two will be Sardinia and round three will be in Switzerland.

- It sounds like there will be no Star Racing engines in MXGP next year, which is weird.

- I keep hearing that both Langenfelder and Horgmo are flying in testing at the moment.

- Prado is training with Smets, which means that he'll be with the MX2 guys. Big move...

That is sad to see indeed. Also unfortunate that it is announced this late in the season. Puts Karssemakers & Gifting in a bad spot i imagine.

Kind of related to MXGP, but Jeremy Van Horebeek announced that he's now a test rider for Pirelli. I bet it's a decent gig.

@LewisPhillips With money/budgets being tight for most teams, what would be the reason for Pirelli to pick a retired racer and not make a deal with lets say a team like Hitachi KTM to do the test work?

Cost, I’m just spitballing numbers but say they pay the rider 50-80k salary to test ride for the year.
can you imagine how much they’d have to pay a whole team.

Test riders need to know what they are doing, and be able to convey what is happening to the engineers. You cant to that at a race weekend.

I think a retired guy would get a base setting for his bike and never change it.

The only changes will be the tires and track. So he will be able to evaluate the tyres better.

As for a team. They would always be changing set up. So to evaluate different tyres from a month ago to today would be hard as the bikes settings would have changed.

I believe that means no UK based teams are competing at Grand Prix level! Sad to see!

How times have changed from the CAS, RWJ, Molson, Swift, Motovision days!

(not including Dixon as they no longer race the uk series)

To be honest i think there would be a bunch of GP teams very happy with a main sponsor bringing in 80k in budget and free tyres.

The point by mx313 is something i hadnt thought of though.
