Really starting to get annoyed that they don’t show up to 9th finishing the heat races anymore on the broadcast. Winner crosses the line and they just keep the camera on him rolling off to go for his interview while there is still racing going on.
Winning the heat race means nothing other then to find out which 9 head to the main and secondly gate pick so show the racing.
Bondo has only been at this for 15+ years.
Give him time.
RJ/McAdoo battle and the cameramen pans away.
How many people would've been fired from their job if they hadn't got better at it?
I appreciate what we get for sure. But I wish they would do as you ask as well as..
Instead of zooming in tight on riders, pan back in order to see more of the track as well. They also seem to stay on one rider for a super long time. This seems to happen during practice mostly. Not sure if it's different camera peeps?. But seems like it's like this every year.
Does anybody know what Bondo did previously? Is he a moto guy that “knows” TV production or is he a random TV guy that was tasked with moto? I can’t help but think that a die hard fan would have much better insight as to what people actually want to see on the broadcast.
In practice/qualifying it's even worse than the night show.
A rider will be on a heater and they'll move away from him to watch the previous fast guy just roll around.

He's been the producer for SX for 15+ year, but he's been a TV producer since 1989.
In corporate America, incompetent people get promoted to positions of higher responsibility.
You would think with all the experience he has listed he would have a clue about what is important to show. Guess not.
I get they have stuff they need to do for sponsors and all that and I am sure it’s not that easy to stay on top of all the action and where to cut to when the race is live but how can he not know the whole purpose of the heat is who finished top 9.
Last night wasnt bad. Always have a camera at floor level to show the speed. Listen to spotters. I honestly thought they did pretty well last night. If I had a nit pic it would be scroll down the gate to show every bike that made the main and put a mic right on the floor for every camera. I never hear what im looking at.
I knew he was around for quite some time, but I’m guessing that he wasn’t a moto fan before his time producing it began. I don’t think he has a clue what the fans want to see, but I also understand that he has to satisfy the suits.
Even if he wasn't a moto fan before getting the gig, don't you think he should've gotten better at producing Supercross and Motocross over the years?
It's like no one ever sits down with him to explain the problems, what needs to be shown, what's important, what's not important, what needs to improve, etc.
Stick an ex-pro/retired pro in the trailer as a consultant and let them help guide the broadcast.
Hell, just having a guy in there to watch Livetiming and point out that one of the big name riders is falling down the order at a rapid pace or is coming through the pack would improve what we see and hear on TV.
Watching SX is like traveling back in time, feels like watching MotoGP, F1 or other top sports coverage from ten years ago.
I would agree with you 100% on this. I think it was Larry Meiers who said when he got his big break into television the network guy told him, "it's easier for me to teach you about television than it would be for me to teach a TV guy about motocross."
If they would let somebody like Jt$ be the camera director during the race, RC would always have something relevant to talk about.
A consultant would be a great addition. An ex pro or even a knowledgeable die hard fan could make the show much more enjoyable.
When interviewed about outdoor broadcast DC said he’s doing a great job, so don’t expect to see any changes
Not possible that he is/was a moto guy.
I believe he got his start at the Olympics; he was the Curling producer. That's why he's about as worthless as a soup sandwich in his current role, to many moving objects.
It feels like anyone to do with the TV broadcast is in a bubble that don't hear any negativity about it and they all think they do an amazing job
I wish they’d actually show who’s in what gate and then stay on the start, rather than a super wide shot followed by a zoomed in dropped clutch or wheel spinning.
Pit Row
Figures. As if we needed more proof we live in a world where no one can state the truth for fear of hurting someone’s feewings. My personal pet peeve is showing replays during a live event. This isn’t sportsball where you have a break every 20 seconds. Just wait until the end of the race and do a mini recap of the replays. Nothing worse than watching a slo mo while hearing the crowd go apeshit in the background.
Hated the back wheel spin for years. Show who got the good jump off gate (front view)
This! We had already seen the replay of Plessenger slamming into Sexton's downed bike and the smashed tank after it was removed between motos. Then I think it was during the 450 LCQ we had to see it again. Maybe I have anger issues but here I am yelling at the TV "We already saw this dammit! Get back to the action you idiots!"
My goodness it's not Rocket Surgery
100% agree. A straight on camera shot with the labels they've unsuccessfully used on moving bikes would be great to point out 3-5 of the top players before the gate drop (while they're sitting still). What they're doing now with the camera panned so far away it's difficult to see who's in what gate to know where to focus once they're ripping down the start straight.
What pisses me off is that most of the constructive criticism has been almost constant and very similar for years, and yet they still will not make the small and easy to implement adjustments from the people who reliably pay for it and watch it year after year.
Most of the changes, like in this thread, don't require much, if any, extra time or money. Just a little bit of willingness to listen and give a fuck and accept that maybe they don't know best and try to give people what they want. But nah...
So 15 years ago he got sent to a C-level, live television sport, sounds like a demotion to me. I have said this before, having worked on live sports broadcasting as a camera operator, for many years, the dude is horrible. Just seems like he has no feel for what he is wanting out of his cameras or he has no feel for what fans will want to see, I think it is both. Spotters have a lot to do with this, but from what I heard he has had quality spotters in the past. It could also just come down to this being the best they can get with the budget they have. The cameras get a lot of the great stuff, we see it with replays, he just has no feel for what is going to happen next.
Bondo when there's a crash...
I don't understand why Supercross/Motocross hasn't gotten to the point where they continue to show the racing while doing a split-screen with the commercials running for 30 seconds-1 minute while we can still see what's going on, they do it for sports like NASCAR and the NFL. I think it would be cool if people new to SX can just see what's going on in-between races instead of watching a commercial for Old Spice.
Even above and in front a little . You could really see the jump.
Even above and in front a little . You could really see the jump.
My whole point of scrolling each bike that made the main as they sit on the gate. The box above with sponsors and best lap time as they go to each rider would be cool and promote the teams.
Maybe they could use the little pop up name things that they try during t he race that isn’t working…my wife walked in while I was watching the race and lol’d while watching them cross cross across the screen. Maybe they are going for the comedy crowd? Also what was with that floating “Suzuki” in the middle of the screen? We sure are getting the best of the best 😂
