I really hope this gets sorted but Strong rumor going on that it’s very likely after the current contact expires with Loretta Lynn Ranch the Amateur national championship will move locations. This is at the decision LL. The most likely landing spot is iron man.
You can definitely make the case the race has too much emphasis and the track is outdated for modern bikes, but I’d hate to see the race change locations.
What do you mean by outdated for modern bikes?
It’s a small tight track. I don’t have a problem with the track but many complain about it being to tight.
This has been a rumor since Ironman opened. I don't see this happening with the history and the revenue the weeks of racing brings to Waverly etc. I don't think MX Sports wants to move it either.
I sure hope you’re right. From what I was told mx sports it’s trying everything to keep it at LL, but LL is saying they don’t want to race anymore. Seems crazy even saying it. Seems like the perfect fit for all involved.

Anything to do with LL passing and now the ranch has some1 else with the most say in what happens
Yeah I can kind of see that. I don't agree particularly but I see that side.
With all due respect and I do mean with ALLL DUE RESPECT…. Hurricane Mills is a terrible location
If it moves to pala I’ll scream
Sounds like with the passing of LL the new boss doesn't want to keep the event, seems crazy, you would image they make a shit tonne of cash off it?
DC has said in the passed that Loretta signed like a 50 year lease or something. I remember it being a REALLY long term thing. As much money as the ranch and area make, I would be shocked if it moved.
Hopefully they keep it at LL. Why fuck up a tradition like that?
They don't care about tradition, they care about $$$...

The only thing I hope for in change at the LL is seeing the move back to an actual amateur event. There is NOTHING still based on an amateur race at this event. The days of bringing your kid to this race with hopes of them doing well (no matter how fast they are locally) are long gone when you have huge money from the likes of big sponsors being pumped into kids as young as 7 years old. It's not all about skills when you roll up to the gate beside of $$$85's that can run with a stock 125. I'm not complaining or hating, I just wish everyone would stop with the "amateur" title about this race when it should be rebadged " LL Youth Pro race". The Mini O's still have the big money being thrown at it but is a way better event for families without very deep pockets or title sponsorships.
Yaaaaaaawn....
What other big mx news ya got buzzing around in the big moto scene down there in the hotbed of American moto?
I have been hearing this “rumor” being spread just about every year for the last 20 years.
As I recall MX Sports just resigned the contract a couple yours ago. Its not going anywhere anytime soon.
I'm sure her death is why this rumor started, and with no basis other than "she died, shits probably going to change, I want to be the first to say something even though I don't have a credible source"
Where are all these insiders getting there info about this event moving ? 😂
Pit Row
That is a mx sports money pit. It’s not moving from the ranch.
Agree. I was watching the Mini Os on YT yesterday and my first thought was how Gatorback looks much more like a "real" track than the Loretta Lynn's track. Not saying LL isn't a good track, but it looks more like a local track than one on which a national championship - even an amateur one - would be held.
Heard about this in a Keefer podcast, apparently the family doesn’t want to have the race anymore. They got so much money they don’t need the race. I hope it stays there, best facility. Lucky it’s on for 23. We’ll see what happens in the future…
From inside their feeble minds
I’ve raced there several times and have a top ten from there. I’ve never thought it was a fun track, but anyone that says it’s not challenging has never raced it. The event itself though is awesome! You won’t find a better ran race than this, from sign up to trophy presentation. It is truly a moto vacation.
There’s always Binghamton!
We did all the amateur nationals when my son was an amateur. We had NO factory help or anything. Go no parts unless I paid for them. It’s all about what you think “doing well” is. His last year he got, I believe, 12th in the B class. We were very proud of him and he was happy with himself. Yeah, to some 12th isn’t “doing well” but just think of how hard it is to just make it to LL. “Little Timmy” (ie random kid) isn’t going to go from barely making LL to even a top 10 because of a bike. LL is so much about having fun and enjoying the time then trying to get a ride. If some kid thinks he is going to get a ride because he did good at LL, they are wrong.
I guess you've mis-read my post. It's not the placing that I was talking about. It's the fact that families at an AMATUER level put in the effort to get to the Loretta's and when they roll in with their little 16' box trailer and a home garaged built bike there is NO WAY they will be able to compete on a level playing field with the massive budgeted corporate sponsored teams there.
With a limited budget at what we have to spend on racing at an AMATEUR level, I have had the talk with my son on where to spend our money. For the families that want to have that Disney experience at the LL's with just the experience itself being the main goal I applaud them for their efforts and wish them all the luck. My son is a racer and likes to compete, so he already knows that if we went to the LL's the deck is most definitely stacked against him.
We have agreed that with the cost of what it takes to do the weeklong LL experience (just judging from our friends total cost for the trips) we can better use that money for a lot more. Now if he decides he wants to put forth the effort and qualify for the LL's and makes it, we will go for a vacation like trip, but we would be going knowing that it is NOT an AMATUER event and would be there more for gate fillings over actually trying to compete with the corporate funded teams. That was my whole point. Again, it is not really an amateur event but rather a tuning fork for up and comers that have been bred into this sport. We are in it for my son's amateur experience and have no expectations of him becoming a Pro rider in the future.
Pala Amateur National Super Moto Coombs Championship
How is this not “end of thread”…
I raced Loretta Lynn’s once. After racing tracks, like Hollister Hills, Sand Hill Ranch, Saddleback, Carlsbad and Arroyo (the old name for Glen Helen)….LL’s seemed like a track that was built on a flat parking lot.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
