Explain the difference. Cardiac arrest just means your heart stops beating.  A heart attack is a generic term for occluded blood flow to the heart which, left untreated, leads to cardiac arrest.

There are about 10 cases of commotio cordis per year… all of them have pre-existing cardiac conditions. The odds that this run-of-the-mill hit through pads caught his heart hard enough, and at the exact moment in the complex, to cause arrest are astronomical.

He did receive a vaccine booster on December 26th. At what point can we start having real conversations about the injuries these vaccines are causing? What about the Panthers player who just died in his bathroom? 38 year-olds don’t just go into cardiac arrest.

Yes they do, and you cant ask why, you could only ask that question to stop people getting in to restaurants.

Pedantry to normalise people dropping dead at rate... bravo.

Some good news, it doesn't show but in the second tweet it clarifies that he responded to questions in writing, not verbally.

I consulted a good friend, with a higher medical degree than me, who used to post here, but got banned (Georgie). He seemed to think the theory of him getting hit hard enough in the chest to send his heart into a fatal rhythm is plausible.

Typically when we have ER patients that go into dysrhythmias like that, we already have defibrillator pads on them, and it takes two seconds to fire that thing up and shock them back into a regular rhythm. But in that case with him in the middle of a stadium, they lost seconds and minutes because they had to tear those pads off, they had to get a defibrillator out there, and all of that takes time away. So they could have missed their chance to actually get him right from v fib into a normal rhythm by defibrillating. It's wild stuff, just have to hope the guy recovers.

If covid vaccines are involved we must always assume it’s just a coincidence. Trust the science.

If you don’t you are a racist, misogynist, transphobic, fascist fringe minority conspiracy theory whackadoo.

Not unprecedented, very similar thing happened to Chris Pronger in the 1998 NHL playoffs. Puck to the chest, through padding, just hit the right spot at the wrong time. From what I've read its most common in baseball.

I wonder if Pronger had the vax in 98 \

Prayers for Hamlin, his family, and Higgins....

but on to the injury...  Are we not allowed to discuss whether this was the cause or the vaccine was the cause?  Anytime someone brings up the vaccine they are attacked.  The fact is we dont know, and it should be open to discussion and a medical examination, which i'm sure will happen.

Also, you cant deny the rise in fatal heart attacks in young healthy althletes... sure its always happened, but it used to be much more rare

Pretty sure the guidelines were set so that it can be discussed as long as it didn’t deteriorate into personal attacks and bickering.

Current Rules in Non-Moto:

1. No religious or Covid/Vaccine topics and discussions: These two subjects are off limits for direct topics as the division they create and the polarizing nature isn't suited for our site. Doesn't matter which side of the fence you're on or if you're dead-set in the middle, don't go there, just don't. Yes, there's going to be plenty of topics that are Covid adjacent, such as regulations to enter venues, protests, etc.

These can be discussed, keep it civil. Let's just try to stay away from the war of who's right and wrong between users over vaccines and Covid itself. Want to discuss some of the politics of it, the after effects to economy, way of life, etc? We can try this. Just please keep it civil. As soon as users just go after each other for their stances on it, we'll have some intervention.

That said, ML recently chimed in a thread and said the following, so be warned:

Ohh and as a reminder to the rules. I'm done with Covid arguments. I'm doing a little clicking today...

And some people have been clicked.

We had a high school lacrosse goalie hit with a ball in the chest some years back, like 25 years ago.  After that schools around here made defibrillators mandatory before games.  No one really knows if that was the story was with Mr Hamlin, but Commotio Cordis certainly fits within the differential diagnosis. Of course many things can cause, sudden Cardiac Arrest. including a Myocardial infarct or heart attack. conduction abnormalities, cardiomyopathies, etc.  At some point I hope he will be stable enough that further testing can be done.

Hopefully he can make a full recovery. He was placed in a hypothermic coma which evidence suggests may help preserve neurological function post cardiac arrest.

I’m not here to argue just share information. After all it’s the internet. Just point out 2 things for the toddlers. You will NEVER know what they put in them. They will NEVER be held responsible for what was put in them, or what happened to those whom took them. That is fact

There’s a documentary called Died Suddenly on Rumble. Made by doctors

I wonder if some equipment from MX would help? I recall seeing some airbag technology advertised here. I think it was a chest protector.

Look, he had a serious heart issue and collapsed on the field. Everyone was shocked and worried. Why are you trying to get off in the weeds and distract from the seriousness of this? Who cares what the actual terms are? We’re not doctors. The hope is that he makes a full recovery regardless of what it was.

The Steelers are catching some flak after what some referred to as a tacky touchdown celebration mimicking someone needing CPR.

So glad Hamlin is on the upswing and what better way to lift his spirits by having the Bills run back the kickoff for a touchdown.👍

Apparently Mr Hamlin is being discharged from the hospital in Cincinnati to continue recovery in Buffalo. Great and incredible news!
