Sorry to hear that. I’m in CT and I’ll keep an eye out for them. Any small details that a thief wouldn’t change that makes it obvious it’s your bike?

Damn that sucks man, hope you can locate those scumbags. Perfect scenario to try an airtag.

Gotta be kidding me. Pieces of shit steal a bike from not only a fellow moto guy, but you, someone who really doesn’t deserve this. Also that bike is special. We gotta find this thing.

I know one had some sentimental value for sure, but hopefully they were insured?

My buddy lives in New Haven.  He watched a home invasion occur on his next door elderly lady neighbor the other night.  He was on the phone with 911 the whole time and they basically refused to send police and also talked him into "cancelling" his call.  Yet he says there is basically never a time you don't see 1-3 police units within any given few blocks.  Good luck.

Sorry about your loss. Every forum I visit, every day's facebook visit, everywhere on the internet it appears to be constant " help, my bike was stolen" posts, and it is always a bummer/sucks a great deal. The thefts are brazen and happening everywhere because there are essentially no consequences if caught, and almost no chance of being caught.

It's just where we are as a society. If you are reading this and own anything you would like to retain, best go secure it VERY well....now

I don't know much about those Apple Airtags but folks are starting to use them to track their luggage when traveling. Every bike owner should invest in a airtag.

Memphis. A few weeks later, it reappeared in San Francisco, zooming around the Bay Area for several hours before showing up outside his front door in San Carlos, California—while he was still abroad.

Taylor was able to follow the route of the suitcase and its sentimental cargo because he had slipped an Apple AirTag inside. The $30 device and similar products like Tile Mate fit inside a bag or onto a pair of keys and let their owners track their precise location on their smartphone. So while Taylor, the chief executive officer of Shogun Labs Inc., a company that lets people build websites without writing code, was presumably on vacation, he was also obsessively following his wayward suitcase and even tweeting about it: “Where will it go next? Good luck out there, little bag.”

There is nothing worse than a fucking thief. Honest work buys the goods and then some scumbag  helps himself.

I hope your bikes are recovered soon before any damage is done.

FYI, if the thief has an iphone, an unfamiliar airtag will notify them that it is present. This is to prevent "stalking" activity.

Unfortunately, the days of being able to leave a bike unattended even without at least one good lock are long gone.
Short Answer: You want:
- ABUS Granit Detecto XPlus 8008 (for making noise)
- OnGuard 8046 and/or Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit
Long answer:
Two of my bikes were stolen a couple of years ago - they were stored inside the house, with locks on the discs and they were still taken.  The Xena alarm disc lock on one bike and the padlock on the other bike were absolutely useless (ie both easily removed).
Lesson: Do a bunch of research about bike locks and learn which ones actually work.  Nothing will beat a portable angle grinder but the next level of attack is hydraulic bolt cutters.
So, that's my minimum standard now - if something can't beat hydraulic bolt cutters then it doesn't go near any of my bikes.
Summary:  Get a Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit and/or OnGuard 8046.  Buy them on eBay US and pay the postage.  I'm using both - one of each per wheel.  Xena alarm disc locks are useless so I've got an ABUS Granit Detecto XPlus 8008 on the way (ie better quality alarm disc lock).  Yep, I'm going to have two or three locks on each bike from now on.

Some points:
1) An angle grinder will cut through anything.  It won't take very long but it will make a lot of noise.
2) Any lock can be picked by someone who has the skills and experience.  However, very, very few thieves will have the required experience.
3) The main tool to be concerned about is a set of hydraulic bolt cutters.  These will cut through almost all locks quietly and quickly. Hydraulic bolt cutters is the "standard" that you need to defend against.
Almost all locks can be cut open easily with hydraulic bolt cutters.  It takes seconds to do, the tool is easy to acquire and doesn't make any noise.
4) For a disk lock it's all about the strength of the shackle and thickness of it - enough to beat hydraulic bolt cutters.  The top-end Kryptonite and OnGuard locks have this.  Almost no others do.
5) Don't get sucked in by any bullshit marketing and sales pitch.  Before buying anything search for it on Youtube and see how it handles bolt cutters.

Hydraulic Bolt Cutters:

Do not buy any lock until you have searched on Youtube to see how it handles hydraulic bolt cutters.  Very, very few locks survive.

Two brands that have locks that defend well against any sort of bolt cutters are Kryptonite and OnGuard.

I was at the track today.  Had to make very quick bathroom run up to the office where the indoor restrooms were.  My air tag gave me a notice I was not near by my 250R.  I left my scooter on the stand where I was parked and drove up to the office.  I was the only person at the track, middle of the week and wasn’t worried.  That and crooks know everybody around Alvin Texas are packin.

Air tags are not the end all to thieving, but they help.  I hate a thief.

I go to Ct. a lot or threw the st. I,ll keep my eyes open.  There is no lock or way of stopping thieves. My cr,s had krytonite locks threw the frame and wheels. The other 2 had the wheels off. They just lift them up and throw them in a stolen enclosed trl and there gone. Sludge hammer, crowbar, grinder to bust in.  4-6-13 break in adds up to 23 that’s my age when I bought my 1st cr on 11-18 my dob.

sorry to hear this mate.

Such a common thing to see across the world now. Easy to steal and easy to move on.

Unfortunately, if they want it they will generally get it. However, I do recommend spending 5 mins removing the front wheel and forks as well as a good lock/chain combo through the frame. Making it hard to get free and even harder to move around.

One of our local dealers also removes the ECU. Which again is a relatively quick job to do as well.

Not to hijack but why did they refuse to send help?

Because New Haven is a shithole, and just like what is happening throughout most cities in this country, the cops are scared to/can't do anything because of all the litigation and protests brought on by social justice warriors and all that other bullshit. Criminals get to be criminals and its everyone else's fault because of the "privilege" they're born into.

At least that's my assumption.

I live in CT. For a legit active home invasion call, cops will 1000% come. There must be some info left out of that story.

Last thing the PD wants is a HUGE lawsuit. Home invasion is a very serious crime in CT.

I caught 2 hood boogers in my garage at 430 am trying to steal my bike after hearing my garage door open. My Gf called the police, and they were there within minutes and ended up catching one of the guys when they were trying to run.

I had tools stolen from a job and the cops never showed.

A week later one comes on the property wondering who drove the truck with an out of date inspection sticker. He tried to come inside until I met him at the door and told him to fuck off.

I wish I could have snapped a pick all the other cops who came to the residence over a fuckin inspection sticker.

I will say this, after THE Cheshire home invasion a few years back, I tend to agree with you. That's generally not something they fuck around with. That and domestic's. which contradicts my previous post talking about new haven.

Story Time: One night my wife and I got home from a day trip to Boston, she was 6 months pregnant. At about 11 PM she wakes me up saying she thinks someone is at our house. We live in the middle of a state forest, no street lights and up a long driveway that is pitch black. The dog is going nuts, so I grab my gun and start creeping towards the kitchen, luckily I see the red and blue lights on a cruiser. Put my gun back in the safe, and quickly try to figure out why the fuck the cops are at my house, in the pitch black at 11pm.

I open my door and see him walking around the outside. I ask him whats going on, and he said they had a 911 hang up from our address. I told him it wasnt possible because its just us here and we were both out cold. He asked to talk to us separately (her specifically to make sure i wasnt holding her hostage). Then he asked one more time if there was anyone else here. I said im pretty sure but now your casting doubt lol. He did another walk around the perimeter outside, said goodnight and was on his way.

Long story long, we do not have town cops. Just a resident state trooper. He came out, alone, to what could have been a very sketchy situation because of a possible home invasion/domestic case. so I stand corrected, for something like that, it is almost definitely bullshit that the cops refused to come.
