I've had a lot of bikes, and a lot of pipes, both 4 & 2 stroke. Pro Circuit & FMF, never a complaint with either when it comes to 4 stroke. With 2 stroke pipes there has usually been fitment issues, but nothing that would stop me from purchasing. I picked up an FMF Factory Fatty for my 23 300sx, and its such terrible quality I am returning it, not because I care too much about how my bike looks, but out of principal. I cannot justify 400 Canadian dollars for something so poorly built. Anyone else notice the same? Its actually worse in person. First 3 photos are of the FMF welds & striations, the last 2 are of the stock pipe which is absolutely perfect.

FMF must have a new kid on the welding bench.
I've had all brands of pipes both 2 and 4 strokes and FMF are by far the worst quality and fitment. So much, I keep my bikes stock now.
In my experience, they never line up properly and end up cracking at the welds or brackets.
I bought FMF once and that was it.
I had a Titanium 2 silencer completely break apart at the brackets in less than 10 rides.
I've stepped away from FMF as well. The last 2 factory pipes I purchased did not fit at all. Ktm 250. They are getting a little too expensive to custom bend from new.

My FMF raw pipe fit great and the welds look fine to me…Maybe the Crome plating magnifies the imperfections…
I guess I’ve been lucky. Had FMF Ti units on an 03 Honda. 14 KTM 350, 19 350 and now 22 350. No problems with fitiment, quality or performance. However, the quality of Akrapovic, Termignoni and Yoshimura are unmatched whether dirt or street, in my opinion. But again, no issues with my last 4 FMF Ti exhausts.
Coulda been a late Friday night job or early Monday morning?
I don’t know why they insist on using gas welding instead of TIG welding. It may be faster, but quality is very bad.
I think you just answered your own question
That thing looks like garbage, I would return it too
That’s a bummer. I, too, would send that back. I had an FMF on my last 350. The fitment was decent, but the anodized blue was shot within 5-10 hours. Like Yzf916, the quality of my previous Yosh and current Akrapovic are definitely several steps above. If I had a two stroke, it’d be PC all day. Love Mitch, and it’s what Ricky, Stew, Reed, and McGrath all ran on their bikes.
I thought FMF was primarily a sticker and apparel company these days.
Never been a fan of quality or fitment with FMF 2 stroke pipes. I run PC and they fit like OEM and the quality is top notch.
Thats a bit better. The welds on the side of mine look like they would crack fairly quick. It's not just the welds though, the marks that im assuming are tool marks from bending are terrible, really ugly in person. The KTM has zero, just smooth clean metal.
Imho FMF in quality
Maybe contact them & see if they can swap it out for you….
The weld in the second picture looks like it's ready to break. There's no penetration where the 2 sides meet. I would return it.
In Sandman's post, it's better, but those welds are still terrible.
Quality control? How did that make it out the door?
Pit Row
Same way they've been selling stuff like that for years
Their tooling looks like it's in need of some attention.
Never had an issue when I raced competitively, used almost exclusively FMF. Didn't have many "works" pipes used the "fatty" mostly. However here is a picture of the Factory one I had on my 05 Kx 125.
Bought FMF once for my RM250 2007 that i restored. The Powercore 2 silencer was incredibly far off from lining up, i had to only use one bolt of two because it was if i recall right almost a whole centimeter off. No way that i could've bolted both holes.
Same anodizing issue here with RCT muffler as well. Within 2-3 hours it went from blue to almost grey. They told me it was normal..maybe if the bike had a shit ton of hours. Hi Donny.
I have run Pro Circuit pipes on my two strokes thirty plus years without issue. Recently bought an FMF because I just couldn't get the power where I wanted with the PC pipe. Quality and finish on the FMF pipe was no where near that of the PC pipe but wow did it work. Couldn't believe the pipe could improve the power I was looking for that much. I can look past the finish for that result!
Never had a figment issue with any FMF products personally. I will agree that the welds are not pretty.
what's wrong with the stock pipe? I've usually found KTM pipes to work pretty well.
Aside from quality....literally every fifteen 2 stroke pipe I've ever had for any bike has disappointed and never really enhanced performance.
Never had issues with FMF, but have had many with PC 2 stroke pipes. With that said, I really think we are going to see a lot of this for a while. Companies trying to pump out product to catch up from the last 2 years, quality employees moving on so everything is being rushed through and new employees trying to put things together and very little to no quality control. Seen it in multiple industries now. I’d definitely send that back, especially for the money we have to pay for pipes now.
Honestly, in the past anyhow, nothing is wrong with stock. I have used PC and FMF, and find the fatty usually stretches the power out a bit on top. Certainly not a necessity...
I just put an fmf on my yz and it fit perfect. I also have one on one of my kids 65’s and the fit is terrible. Quality control I guess.
