Gotcha
I don’t have a Facebook, so I don’t see any of that. There are multiple threads on KTMTALK and ThumperTalk, but I haven’t seen anything related to piston failures
There is a guy on YouTube that had a piston failure on a 300 xcw at over 100 hours, and I think he is blaming the Taiwan (kymco) made cylinder that ktm started using in 2021 on the gasgas 300.
Where are you getting these numbers, everything I can find for 2022 puts them 800-1000 apart in MSRP...
I love every color dirt bike and though I'm a ktm guy, It makes no difference at all anymore now that I play ride and not really race.....and my lap times probably wouldn't change much between a rmz 450 and the 250 sxf that I ride now. Not sure why anyone craps on any brand.....I thank god these factories make awesomely fun dirt scooters to rip and tear with. Think about what they build these bikes to do and I don't see how you can fault any manufacturer for a breakdown. Humans are human and mechanical things fail....nothing man made is immune to this. I do love my ktm 250 though.....what a great machine...and I've had to rebuild my air side once already with 20 hours on it??????

Those aren't OTD numbers. They are OOMA (Out of My Ass) numbers
What is the margin of error when you are just making shit up?
I understand many of these bikes go over 100 hours but you can’t blame the cylinder or piston at that point. It’s there own fault for not doing the maintenance.
I agree. I don’t know how hard he rode it but over 100 hours (I think it was closer to 150 hrs) on a 2 stroke piston is tempting fate unless you are a slower trail rider.
You are pretty close on msrp. $8200 for the Honda and $10k on the ktm. However I think the ktm stock fork valving is a lot better than the Honda and no spring change required for the ktm fork so you can probably add $500 to the Honda to get them close to equivalent. The ktm makes quite a bit more power and the clutch will last at least twice as long.
The Honda is probably harder to find in stock (no doubt the lower price plays a role there) but there is no telling how much mark up you will have to pay to get either one. Depends where you live.
300 XC-W is still the old TPI not the new 2023 300 EFI design and regardless 100+ hours has a lot different variables that can cause a BOOM.
I agree one guy with a bunch of hours failing a piston isn’t a surprise.
KTMs suck, especially when you can’t work on them
I have cone valves on my 350 that I love. I never used any of the AER forks that came on my last two bikes. But I just bought a 23 300 XC and I really like the AER forks on it. No vague feeling in corner entry at all. Not enough bottoming resistance for hard core pro speed mx but that’s to be expected. I’m pretty impressed with the feel.
OP: Did you end up finding a solution? I took a look at my '23 250 XC in the garage a couple days ago and my forks are sitting low as well. Haven't tried any of the remedies yet mentioned in this thread. Bike has been sitting for about a month now with only a couple hours on it.
I've been riding 250 YZ,s since a couple years and had gearbox issues on every single Yamy I had...
Thinking about switching on a 250 or 300 SX next year, hope the gear box and the oranges ones are stronger!
There was a ‘23 XC300 at my local dealer and forks were sagging real bad. I asked the sales guy what was going on with the forks and he told me that they would pump up when you rode it. Lol
I decided to let it go, he didn’t seem like the type that wanted to learn anything.
Maybe YOU can't but I could do all kinds work on one.
I thought it was only RMZs that needed spending on to bring them up to the standard of the other bikes?
Why do all that when you can just buy a Yamaha, spring it, and ride the bastard?
Pit Row
Well you can’t fix the ergos on the Yamaha at any price only bandaid it with lower foot pegs. It can also be a challenge to find a new one at a normal price.
I've rode the new Honda's and not that impressed. I really wanted a new 23 YZF450, but after the shit that went down with Star/Yamaha personel at Loretta's last year I just couldn't do it.
Everyone I know that rides moto ends up having their suspension done anyway so the fork harshness issue with the CRF didn't bother me. The RMZ needs way more than a re valve to be current with the other brands.
What didn't you like about the honda?
My sarcasm didn’t come across the way I meant
I have a 23 450 XCF. My biggest problem with the bike so far is that I can only ride it once a weekend.
Yeah I have a bigger problem. The weather sucks here now so I may not get to ride it more than once a month until March. It is supposed to be single digits here by Friday.
Yeah, I was able to do the pull up trick on mine and it seems to have worked for my ride a couple days ago. Will be interesting to see if it happens again. I really want to give the air stuff the benefit of the doubt, but the road race side of me says just bite the bullet and get carts.
Just wasn't comfortable. But that's an unfair assesment. I'm riding someone else's suspension and engine map. Overly stiff feeling and the power was too abrupt for me. But it was an A riders bike and I'm a B - . I did ride a 250F honda recently and it was really nice.
I have a 2022 KTM 150sx with 3 hours on it that's been sitting for a couple of months due to a surgery. Took it out riding last weekend and had no back break everything worked fine before is this a common thing with the brembos?
