NC Bike Thefts Continue

North Carolina has seen a huge spike in bikes thefts this year.  Several races have been hit.  Several individuals having multiple bikes, including myself, have been targeted this year.

Just last night they hit a big race at Dreamville that was geared towards the 65cc classes.  10 bikes were stolen, most being 65's.  Some were in trailers, locked, attached to motorhomes with the families asleep inside.

This is absolutely insane, I mean about every week there are multiple thefts.  They have been all across the state.

Just can't help but believe this is organized crime, not the mob but this has to be a ring of thieves working together.  It has to be well over 100 bikes in the last few months.   Out of all of these the only ones I have heard of the bikes showing up anywhere for sale or online was a pair of CR500's they hit a buddy of mine for.  Both of those bikes have shown up for sale or in "reels" and the cops will not do anything.  Not sure what they could do but NOTHING is being done.  It's like dirtbike owners don't mean a thing....

I personally believe someone in our moto community is giving info to the actual thieves on whom to hit.  No way they are getting lucky and hitting jackpot everytime.

Keep your stuff locked down and get insurance folks.....

An Apple air tag could at least track down where the bike is headed. Thieves in Saudi get there right hands chopped off.

All of the stolen bikes in NC go to a trailer park in Fayetteville, which is close to Dreamville. The Police know about it and don't do anything about it.

Send me the location.  I will be there tomorrow looking my bikes....  I thought I had a couple of possible suspects but neither of them would have enough support or sense to pull this off...

The most consistent rumor is there is a warehouse in Durham that a lot of them are going to the get picked up to be shipped out of the country.

One young man in the next county over had his stolen earlier in the year.  He got a call from a police dept in Florida.  Bike was found in a container full of stolen bikes headed to South America.  He drove down and got it back.  Two months ago they hit him again and got the same bike again plus one or two more....

I would “accidentally” leave my truck in drive while pointed at said warehouse and then once it went through the door you could call the cops to report the accident and maybe they’ll just luck into finding a few stolen bikes.

I've lived in ENC my entire life and up until 10 years ago it was fine to leave your bike out. We used to leave our trailer at the track overnight without worrying at all.

But we didn't have fuckin wheelie Boyz ten year ago.

It’s getting hairy in Florida too, see lots of stolen bike posts from riders in local Facebook groups. I keep the garage door closed all the time now just because there might be curious eyes driving through the neighborhood. What really blows is to go riding at 90% of my spots I have to drive straight through the part of the city where all the wheelie boys sport their talents, luckily the lowlifes who partake in that shit are still asleep at 7-8 in the morning.

I refuse to list a bike on Facebook marketplace anymore, it’s too easy to google someone’s name and get their address, or none the less just look on that little map that shows the approximate location of where the seller is.

I fucking hate thieves of any kind, but stealing a children’s motorcycle definitely reserves you a 5 star room in hell.

Imagine being a 7 year old waking up for your first race to find out your birthday present was stolen...

Thieves burn at the stake.

Tough to read. I guess it goes on everywhere. I don’t hear too much about bikes being stolen around here to be honest, but I’m sure it’s happening at a smaller scale.
I’d hate to catch someone doing that shit, I don’t think I’d make the right decisions. I hope I’m never faced with this.

You would b surprised a lot of thieves are not all that smart. But they work as a group 3-4 drive around looking for anything to steel . They might hv 3 -4 car loads driving around. The group that stole my cr125,s also stole a lot of skid loaders. They sell slot of the stolen property at auctions.  They worked up to breaking into a implement dealership and cleaned it out. They steel a enclosed trl 1st. Police close stolen property cases in 24 hrs. 4.5 yrs after the crime I got 2 arrested of the group the 3 rd was in prison. Xmas is coming up that means it’s the biggest time to steel of the yr. Idiots go down the whole row in a trk stop and break into trls. Most drivers hv guns just to give ya an idea of how bad they are.

What would be the right decision to make? If you’re ballsy enough to break into someone’s house and steal their shit you better be ready for whatever consequence comes through that door.

Just saw some MXA employee had his Suzuki and KTM stolen in SoCal and then were seen like a day later in the back of a truck with all the graphics pulled off heading to Mexico, same exact situation with that Buttery Films YouTuber a couple years ago. I imagine most bikes stolen in California make their way to Mexico, most of anything that gets stolen around here usually heads south to the ports in Miami. Actually in my area the boat theft is crazy right now, 3 gone in a week in my small town.

In Dem run cities even if the police know where your shit is their not going to do anything about it, hands are full with murders (and what’s more important a person calling about their murdered child, or a child having his dirt bike stolen)..

A friend had his house broken into and wheels stole off his truck. He could see exactly where his iPad was and watched a guy drive around with his stolen wheels on a truck..Milw cops don’t have time to do anything about it..

Meanwhile let’s Defund the Police

Yep, police. Short staffed. Calls are handled By priority. Hate to say, but a stolen dirt bike isnt as important as a crime against a person. Insure your shit.

Same in the UK. They'll go straight through your garage door and ride straight out, ground anchors and chain don't do a thing.

Mate of mine had a break in, they loaded his tool box and his bike into the back of a customer's van which he had in for work and they drove the whole lot away.

People planting DIY trackers on vans, motorhomes or trailers is fairly common here now. 9v battery, small PCB and a SIM card in a project box covered in duct tape and stuck under your vehicle at the track, then they just go help themselves from wherever you keep it.

Stealing big bikes that we work long and hard for pisses me right off, but stealing kids' bikes makes me wild.

Best thing to do is get your bikes insured or make it next to impossible for thieves to access your stuff.

Depending on location, police won’t or can’t do much follow up for a stolen dirtbike. Murders, assaults, dealing with the mentally ill, and overdoses all take priority. Even if all those things aren’t issues where the bike was stolen, once the thieves take it to another jurisdiction.. good luck to the local police getting the police in the new jurisdiction where the bike may be located to do anything.

Add to all this punishment for theft becoming increasingly lax… thieves are further emboldened.

In another thread on air tags, someone mentioned don’t be a vigilante call the police.  Someone else mentioned if it’s stolen do you really want it back.

If one of my bikes, ATV, SxS, tractor whatever gets stolen and I know where it’s at.  I will call the police and tell them to meet me where my stolen property, I don’t mean ask, I mean tell them.  I’m not above trying to get my property back depending on the situation.  Might even deal with who stole it depending on the situation.  I’m one of those guys that will not settle for oh well, the police don’t have time they have more important things to do.

By the way, there are a whole bunch of guys just like me down here in Texas that don’t take kindly to thieves.

There are no longer consequences for theft like this.   That is why it's become an epidemic.  Not just bikes.

Can't say too much more without breaking the rules.

20 year younger me would’ve done enough to go to jail. 56 year old me would hopefully be able to refrain from losing control.

several of my friends have taken the concealed carry classes and have found out that if you have someone breaking into your house/ garage (in California) and you shoot them, you’re going to jail, unless you can prove your life was in danger and he had a weapon.

the smash and grab thieves are making careers out of it. I never thought that crap would make its way into our town, but our mall has had several of them recently.

Yep. Prison isnt worth it over property, and to the people saying they would shoot them for theft. Lol . A lawyer would have a field day with the comment. Best to. Keep. Thoughts to yourself sometimes. Secure your stuff, insure it. Hard working people have more to lose. Job. House , prison than some pos criminal.

The sad thing, younger men don’t want to become police officers anymore because of the bad rap they have. My town would hire people that can’t pass a background check, but have a good reason why.

I forgot it’s a lot different out there compared to over here. I’m not necessarily saying I would be the one to start shooting instantly, but I couldn’t imagine being a father/husband and having someone break into my house when my family is there. That would definitely flip some peoples switch regardless of what the thief is there for.

Thieves should be flogged and filleted, gutted like a fish, for all to see. Slowly and alive. Fuck cutting off a hand. I wanna see them suffer. Tired of seeing peoples shit get stolen. It’s only a matter of time before it happens to me. Only difference is I’ll take matters into my own hands Smile
