My problems with it:
1) I had to service a bit too often the forks
2) at 110 hrs I had to service the top/bottom ends
3) the steering head needs to be greased often. I had to change the bearings twice.
The chain roller is not an issue if you use Chinese units as they are much harder than the stock ones. The slider will not wear out if you use an extra tooth.

I'm thinking of snagging another KX if there's good deals to be had out there, what have you gents been paying for 23's? I would imagine they're going to be rolling out heavy rebates in anticipation of an all-new '24, but I've also heard some people are stealing 23's right now.
I have this chassis dialed and want to stay on it while people figure out the '24.
The rebate on the 2023 just went up by $500 to $1500 this month.
TBH I have never bought a left-over bike with a rebate - is $1,500 about the maximum you'll see from Kawi? Does anyone remember what type of rebate they were giving in 2018 when the 2019's were coming out? Just want to make sure I don't buy a bike, then the next month they knock another $1,000 off.
Thanks for any insight!
I think they still have $2k off 2022.
I was just quoted 9600 out the door for a new 2023 KX 450. At that price I might be buying my first green bike.
If you are willing to drive to the north side of Indy you can probably knock $1k off that. Westfield powersports has one listed at $7200 + fees which are about $1k plus sales tax. You might hit up the dealer in Linton too. His brother is on here sometimes.
Delmarva power sports just quoted me 8200 otd for a 23
Thanks. You just saved me $1,000 if I decide to buy a green bike. I've never had one but very tempted now. Appreciate the information.
If you want a 450 it is hard to pass up at that price and it handles well and has a good but not overpowering engine. It has pretty good ergos too.
Thanks. I'm just concerned about reliability and durability. My YZ has been basically bulletproof.
Plastics and some metal components look worn faster than other bikes. Plastics are a cheap/easy fix. The bolts you have to be a little more careful with but they all seem to be going downhill.
Pit Row
Look through this whole thread. With the exception of soft chain sliders, the KX450s have been bulletproof since at least 2019.
Can someone post some pics of how they reinforced the subframe, I've been shimming my exhaust away from the tire and it keeps rubbing the tire. I tried searching for pics.
Just picked up a 23 450X model for around 9k out the door in Oklahoma. Dealer did say that they don't last long, most are sold before than hit the showroom floor!
What spring rates are you guys running? I'm 6'4, 225.
I wouldn’t worry about durability. They are solid. No major issues on my KX 450s in the past 10 years. I’ve had a few.
We are almost the same size. Speed wise, I at the front of the pack in the +30 and +40B motocross races. I am running .52 kg/mm fork springs and a 6.0 kg/mm shock spring. That shock spring might sound heavy, but as I’ve learned from testing with Factory Connection back in the day, really tall riders put a ton of load on the rear shock. These were the rates recommended by both Race Tech and Factory Connection for me. Last winter I revalved the forks myself with a Gold Valve kit and I’m very happy with the results. It has more hold up in the front now and really balanced the bike. I am very happy with the initial valving recommendations from RT. After the spring change, the stock shock works great. I change the oil every year, but I like the stock valving in the shock.
Thanks for the heads up, congrats on the new ride!
I actually scooped up a ‘23 yesterday. Rather than try to find the cheapest and ship it, I just went to the dealer 2 miles from my house to see if I could get a decent deal (they are basically a SxS dealer that happens to have dirt bikes). Ended up paying $9,300 OTD. A bit more than I was hoping but I’m good with it.
Congrats! Fine looking fleet!
I see you are running the Xtrig PHDS. How do you like them? Did you notice a significant amount of comfort?
I want to put a new piston in mine and I'm having an internal debate on using OEM or a high compression piston. You hippies have any advice?
Put in a stock one and take a bong hit
I like forged, so mine got a vertex. OE looked great when i took it out at 75 hours though.
I can get a CP piston the same price as OEM, I'd like to try the 13:5:1 compression ratio. I'm kinda worried about it detonating on pump gas.
