Correction - (5). Webb, Tomac, Ferrandis, J. Lawrence, and Anderson. One of those will be the 2023 SX Champion.
Ferrandis is on this short-list based on what?
Not only do you have a guy who hasn’t won a race as a shortlist championship contender but also a guy not even in the class…

I would agree if Eli didn’t get on the same bike last year and dominate. Same with Chase and Kenny, tough for one guy to blame bike setup when the other guy is ripping on the same equipment.

As for his 2x 250 Sx championships, he wouldn’t be the first 250 champ to never live up to 450 expectations (SX only, DF14 is a beast outdoors).
That’s just a bad take. Riders with different style and size/weight will have different bike setups. What works for one may not for the other. Eli and Dylan’s set ups are vastly different. But Dylan has no one to blame but himself if he couldn’t find a good setup. He also injured himself preseason did he not?

One thing that counts for a great rider is the ability to adapt and overcome. I doubt the RC had a perfect bike every moto he did the perfect season. He probably had to work around some issiues on the bike and that ability makes a champion.

Everyone talks up Webb’s mental game but I only see him mentally strong when he’s winning. That’s when he plays his games on the gate. When he isn’t winning, he continues to struggle.
He has the strongest mental game in the sport, but he needs to be in the same zip code as the leaders past the 10 minute mark for it to matter. And the incredible thing about his championships is that he managed to do that. Would never guessed it watching him ride fresh tracks earlier in the night, but once it got chewed up he was willing to go where others didn't. I don't think he does anymore.

I agree, but we didn’t see that mental advantage all last year. In fact I think it backfired on him.
I hope he gets it together, much more interesting with Webb as a factor.

All this talk about how strong he is mentally is flawed if he can't combine that with top tier speed. People are forgetting that when he won his titles he was pretty much the fastest rider too. His mentality hasn't gone anywhere and it's a great asset. But that wont be enough if he isn't fast enough on 17 weekends.

You don't see too many people raving about how great the KTMs, Husky, or GasGas bikes are these days like a few years ago. They went and completely rebuilt a new bike that is worse than the model they had before. I honestly don't think it's the riders. Makes you wonder why Webb only signed a 1 year deal with KTM and the fact there will be an open 450 ride at Star after Eli retires. 🤔

Just watched the race from last night. Damn, the way Kenny passed Webb through the whoops and around the outside must have hurt!
He and KTM have a lot of work to do in the off-season!

Dylan is a great rider. Let’s not pretend SX is his forte either. He broke his thumb coming into sx last year did he not(honestly could have been the year before?)? Then hurt his wrist in a crash I believe that caused him to pull out of sx.

I think he came into 2022 SX pretty healthy. Pretty sure the thumb was why he didn’t race MX this year. Did it at the Pala press day right before the season started.

You might be right about that. I know for sure he hurt his wrist in sx. Can’t remember the timing on the thumb deal.

Edit your correct on the thumb. And he broke his hand heading into 2021 sx not 22.

I wonder how much he regrets being on the Austrian bike that cant do whoops.

SP should build a dedicated supercross bike with an alloy frame

Seems like since the bike switch it's all come off the rails. Paris is just a "pre-season" race and pretty much counts for nothing. Hopefully they can figure some shit out before the real SX racing begins.

I know Cooper won the SX after his back incident, but I suspect he’s still dealing with an issue from that. Hopefully, he can get back up front.

Don’t blame the bike when Mookie, Deano and Barcia can do it.

Webb and Marv has always sucked in the whoops and no bike will change that.

Watching slow mo at whoops during broadcast just showed both Cooper and Marvin went up and down in whoops and bike was never level. All Hondas Brayton, Ken, Soubeyras bike stayed flat hitting them.
When Coop won title he started every single race at front and that year whoops were cut away from track map or just so short and low that he could stay at front. Tracks were also narrow and tight that killed passing. It came joke that Roger called to cut whoops after practice but it seemed to be correct. Cant see him fighting for another title anymore.

Man.. Coop did not look good last weekend... dude looks really, Reallyyy burnt out..... he got the summer off... but looks like he either needs more time off, or to do something different completely... dude was a monster... but racing your heart out every weekend since basically birth, isn't easy, it's really hard... dude has def earned some off... oh and... if he is gonna keep racing.. wish he would have used his time off to integrate the new riding technique into his riding style.. but he has not... anyone who doesn't do that, will only get crushed by those that have (basically just Jett and Chase at this point).....

Hopefully seeing Christian Craig on the Husky this year will settle the debate on if the Austrian bikes suck in the whoops. Arguably the fastest guy in the whoops last year in both classes on that Yamaha last year.

The two fastest guys in the whoops in either class are Craig and Mookie, so if they don’t have them figured out this winter, it’s a bike problem.

Mookie got much better towards the end of the year and was looking closer to his former self. We will see if that’s carried over and gotten better.

Guys, KTM have only been trying to be good in the whoops for 20 years, give them some time to get it together.

I see Coop winding up the bottom end of the top-5 when the smoke clears in the 2023 SX season. I’m afraid his Championship ship has sailed.

I have a theory. When the new bike was tested he already knew that his magic cornering trick was gone with the new frame. That could explain his joke on his helmet at A1. He will Probably take the Tomac sit at Star next year for the best I think.

Roczen just took his Honda jersey off.

Seriously, I hope he can find a bike and set up that will allow him to skim whoops like he's done lately. Clearly, even a Pro Circuit YZ250 will do!

"KTM are gonna struggle on that new bike"

Proven wrong by scoring 3rd & 4th in the SX 450 class championship.

As it turns out, KTM didnt struggle as much as Honda did on their already proven '21 platform.
