He's probably rehiring people because so many advertisers bailed on the platform and Musk is realizing that antagonizing the very companies that keep Twitter afloat isn't a good long-term strategy.

Twitter sold almost zero advertising at their 2023 new front, which is $600-800 million in guaranteed revenue they lost out on

Combine that with the fact that Twitter pays $1 billion a year in interest payments and Musk looks pretty stupid right now

So "Elon Musk @Kathy Griffin" is impersonation we don't like and deserves bans... on what is supposed to be the new free speech platform. But these parody pages on ban happy, super censored, Facebook is ok. I'm just checking.

I think the Twitter purchase is a total waste of money. He bought it for 44 billion. He couldn’t even sell it for half that today.

I think the value of Twitter as some important part of society is MASSIVELY overstated. It could literally disappear tomorrow and we wouldn’t lose anything.

Calling it the “town square” is laughable.

At the end of the day, it’s not important, provides zero true value, and as a business is not profitable.

So basically Elon got duped into spending 44 billion on something that is practically worthless.

And this is a total distraction from him leading Tesla, and SpaceX, which do, or could, provide value. And instead he’s now off on setting Twitter and is 44 billion on literal fire.

And yet , even at $44b , what he will achieve will be priceless.

Free speech cannot have a $$ value.

Amazon lost $1 trillion in market value and nothing changed. Still the same amount of people and the same amount of warehouses... someone decides it suddenly isnt worth as much, and its all gone, same as Crypto.

I too would prefer he focus on Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company and Neuralink but his Tweet makes a good point!

What are you talking about? Twitter isn’t traded anymore. Musk paid $54.20 a share.

I don’t think you understand how the process went. He purchased twitter and bought all shares (some big stakeholders allegedly didn’t sell Jack Dorsey for example) at $54.20 each. He then took the company private and off the public market.

He overpaid by more than $20 billion and lost $100 billion in personal wealth from leveraging tesla stock in the process because he's a genius.

Being a genius doesn’t mean you don’t make a mistake.

Buying Twitter was a colossal waste of money.

I think you are missing some critical aspects:
- investments are long term, you wouldn’t know what it can be worth as a free speech zone for the entire world in say 5 years ( see Berkshire Hathaway for reference)
- Musk is a philantropist. I even admit to laughing at him many years ago. When he showed e-cars were awesome and boosters could be autonomous and land for re-use despite NASA saying he was stupid, he convinced me.
- It’s hard not to cheer for a guy who holds no sides, he just seems to reinvent and prove us wrong. I think the guy must be a well functioning aspergers, no way people can do and handle things like he does without having a special power

It doesn’t need to when the US government is paying the bills to use it as it’s propaganda arm.
There have been some interesting papers and pieces discussing the likelihood that the government funds it. Pointing out the resources required to run it and how Twitter could not possibly afford to on its own. No idea how much truth there is to the idea but it’s been written about a fair amount.
