Ever went to the track, realized you forgot something important and had to go back home!!!

I took the wife, kid, and puppy to the track this previous spring. I unloaded, setup camp, got the bike warmed up, and when I went to put it into gear my boot fell off the peg. I forgot to put my shifter back on after some maintenance!!!!!!! The wife was not impressed. lol Luckily the track was only 1.5 hour drive, but it sucked doing all that work and realized I made a stupid mistake.

Hour and a half to dirtbike heaven known as Muenster.
I had 1 boot.
We planned to be there all weekend so I was screwed.
The bad part is I was riding a 1984 CR500, and I forgot the right boot.
My buddy helped me start it cold on day one.
It sucked but I sort of managed.
Day 2 I decided to start it with my cowboy boot.

POW! BACKFIRE!
Blew the shit out of my boot, and fucked my ankle up, soccer style.

One of the most memorable events from my junior days occurred during my final year of racing for Junior state titles, when my father and I drove 9 hours for the weekend of racing to be canceled due to rain. A sand track was open an hour and a half drive from where we were staying, so we headed there, gearing up for the first ride, when I remembered I forgot my helmet. Dad jumped in the truck and drove straight back to get my helmet, and I borrowed a friend's helmet for two rides. Dad returned with my helmet right before the third ride, and I went out that ride and high-sided on the landing of a 60-foot tabletop, knocking myself unconscious. Good memories.

I have 2 jerseys that I shouldn't. The first is a KTM jersey. I got to Barona Oaks for a practice, and whoops! No jersey, But there was a KTM dealership nearby (I don't have a problem with KTM, but ride a Yamaha).

Happened again at another track. I ended up with a jersey that's a size too small.

I've forgotten my riding socks, or the Knee brace undersleeves many times, or worse yet, forgot to wash them.

Forgot my helmet... Twice.

Went to a harescramble once and pulled my helmet out of the bag only to realize I forgot the liner that I had left out to dry after washing.

The event was at a buddy’s shop, and I asked him if he had a spare, and he said “sure!” and handed me an old beater they had laying around.

Since he is a couple hour drive away, I told him I wasn’t sure how I’d wash the sweaty liner in the loaner and get it back to him in a reasonable time.

He said, “Don’t worry about, let the next guy worry about it.” Then it dawned on me…

Went to a race in 1984 with a friend and forgot my licence. I was young with no parent so I couldn't buy one at the track. Decided to flag so at least I could make some spare change. No money and not even a hot dog or cold drink!

What a waste of a day and the guy I travelled with broke his ribs and ended up in the hospital and I was only 15 so I couldn't drive home. What a mess. I actually waved the flag for him LOL.

Thanks for the laugh lol

There’s even more to it. He flew over a hill and crashed on the other side out of sight. I ran over and was waving the yellow and Red Cross flags standing on the top of the hill with no bikes in sight. The other flaggers were looking at me wondering WTF I was waving the flag for.

Had to do my best sign language and point down the hill. The only reason I knew someone was over the hill was because I was actually watching him. He might still be there today if I wasn’t flagging.

Furthermore, the guy who broke his ribs is still my best friend today and we are in our 50s. He was a “dead sexy” 16 year old (his words not mine) at the time and the nurses kept coming in and pulling the sheets back to have a look at his whole body including his junk. Oh what a time to be alive. Loved the 80s.

More than once. I’ve forgot my boots one time and forgot my helmet another time. Things are easily forgotten when you’re excited to ride a new bike.

With the boots it was only 30mins away but the helmet was 2hour30mins 😒

We were 3/4 of the way to the 1987 Miami SX when my dad realized he had forgotten our tickets at home in Palm Beach Gardens. We turned around and went home to get them.

Luckily the Orange Bowl crowd was a little light so the promoter held up the program and went on the local radio stations for some last minute advertising to get more folks through the gate. At least that was what MXA reported a couple months later when covering the race.

We were fortunate to not miss any of the action in the end. I was 13 at the time and it was the first pro race we ever went to. I was sure we were going to miss most of the show but somehow we lucked out.

I headed to the track couple of days back to ride my new 2023 CRF250R. I almost get to the track and realized I forgot my boots still in the garage.

Have to turn around and head back to the house and get my boots. I made up for it, I took two pair on the way back. Lucky the track I went to is only about 30 minutes away but still a pain in the ass.

What have you forgot!!!
I got one better on the boots. I lived in Tacoma Wa. My best friend and his other friend drove down from Whidbey Island Wa to pick me up in Tacoma and we were driving to Washougal for a Sat/Sun practice day. This was back in 1989/90 time frame. We loaded up my bike and gear and drove 3 hours to Washougal. We got there right when practice was starting. We all started to put our gear on and I realized I forgot my boots. I was devastated. Carl my best friend owned the van we drove down in so he said "hey it's a two day practice, drive my van back and get your boots. At least you will get to ride tomorrow".

So I did. They stayed with all their stuff piled on the ground and I drove back another 3 hours to my house and got my boots. Drove 3 hours back to the track. So almost 10 hours of driving that day I finally got back. I did get to ride all Sunday and the weather and track were great so it was worth it.

Never forgot anything since.

I'd put some quotes around the "dead sexy" thing.

I know it would make me feel better if you did.

(all kidding aside, AWESOME stories guys - keep them coming!)

When I was on mini bikes my dad and I would do the local county fair tour. We were about 2 hours into the drive to Waukon, Iowa and maybe an hour out when he turned and said “Did you grab your gear bag?”, I said “No, did you?” he paused for a second, sighed, then laughed. Turned around and went home, got some DQ on the way.

Another good one: first time I went riding by myself at 16, forgot the gas can. Didn’t even think about gas. On my 3rd session, bike puttered out about as far away and downhill from the pits as possible. Kicked it for like 5 minutes. Couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Buddy rolled up and said “Out of gas?” LOL.

Dad sawed halfway through the padlock on our trailer with a shitty dremel, this took like half an hour. I was despairing this whole time until I realized there was a spare key buried in the truck glovebox. Still using the lock lol

We went to race at Spillway Park in Santa Maria ( two hour drive for us ) and my buddy that went along with me forgot his gear bag. Found out after we unloaded and I was getting ready for practice. So he signed up for a different class than what he normally rode ( same as me ) and after my race he used my gear when his race came around. Luckily we were the same sizes. He got razzed about that one for a long time.

Back in the late 70,s I didn't pack my boots for my second every race, I spent the day corner marshalling whilst my brother raced. Bummed to say the least.

I no longer ride, but I have a recurring dream that I'm on a starting gate, and I have something missing that stops me starting the race!

Good point done!

One more....

He was pretty messed up with busted ribs and a punctured lung and a few more issues but no one was giving him any sympathy. I was waving the flag but cursing at him for fucking up because he was doing really well. When the official finally came over to assess the situation and call the ambulance over, he takes one look over the hill and sees my buddy laying there amongst a pile of tree stumps and logs as says “You try to make things idiot proof but there’s always some idiot out there trying to prove himself.”

Haha. We still use that one on him today!
