The best we have available is third string riders...we can't stop talking about it...it's fact.

And as long as Stewart is activily racing AMA mx and/or sx...he's a candidate for the MXdN, and thus on the table when bench racing about would be mxdn teams.

You're just pissed our C team, has an outside shot at winning, and is a very serious podium contender...America just has the best riders in the world Period...JS, RV, MA, RD...four of the five fastest men on the planet (the other rider would be Reed also an AMA rider though not "American")...then you've got AC, who would be a close 6th fastest man in the world, and then it's anyones call after that...to close for me to call anyway.

The best you have available are 3rd string riders ? Really ? Who else have you got besides Villopoto and Alessi ? James Stewart and Ricky Carmichael ? I thougth those 2 were retired. Well.. 2 can play that game... Hey... Belgium is there with a C team as well. Stefan Everts is not riding, neither is Eric Geboers and Andre Malherbe. And dang... one of our best ever (Roger de Coster) does not want to ride for us either. Looks like Belgium is there with a Z team instead of a C team.

Face it guys.. You have the best possible lineup available at the startgate. You keep on talking about injured and retired riders. Every country has that problem. Every country has injured and retired riders.

Fact is that with a country as massive as the USA that even with 2 of your best riders injured you guys normally still should easily win the nations. Why should i be pissed because you guys still have a chance to podium it ? Why should i be pissed because you guys still have a chance of winning it ? I'm actually stunned that it only took the injury of 2 of your top riders and you guys are allready looking for excuses why you are not going to win the mx of nations. Cheer for your country, like everyone else does and stop whining. You still have a big chance of winning. That's a lot more then most of us can say.
The reason an Australian is winning the 450s is because of injuries...the reason a Frenchman is winning the 250's is because he's just plain fast...not as fast as dungey-but more consistent this year-(and slower than RV, MA, JS, Reed). That is why.

We've got RV, MA, James Stewart (he ain't retired...just riding for a stupid team).

I'm not talking about RC for the same reason you can't talk about Everts...they are all not competing at all. James is still competing actively in the AMA pros...just riding supercross. RC, Everts etc are not currently compteting AT ALL...they don't count.

Three of our Best five riders are injured...(MA, RV, JG), and a fourth is riding for a stupid team.

And nobody is whining...I'm just stating the obvious...we have our C team going...its the best we could put together this year (but certainly not our best riders, riding in the best class for them)...and I will cheer for them (and austrialia...which is also an AMA team).

Right, Injuries at JS not racing make this a C team...

Short has something wrong with him healthwise (though he did well at Unadilla)...I'm not sure he'd be the best choice.

Anyway...the team we're sending isn't even close to the one I would have liked to have seen go.

Any MX1/3 combination of RV, MA, JS, JG

And any MX2 rider out of RD, TC, JW would have been better than what we're sending.

Ideally RV, JS and RD...that is an A team right there...NO excuses if we get beat with that team.

RV, MA, and TC...is a likely B team...can't really mention any excuses if we get beat with them.

even a MA, JG, and JW team would be better than what we've got...I think.

Anyway...we still have a solid team...and we'll do well.

Stop mentioning Stewarts name aswell because the guy even said himself that he is currently retired from motocross.

When Tedesco won at Thunder Valley the majority of you Americans were posting in here calling him the fastest 450 rider in the world. Now all of a sudden he's your C team rider who is also the weakest link on the team...?

Get a grip over Stewart. If you've heard his latest podcast you'll hear him say that he's currently retired from motocross. Roger can't choose a supercross rider over a motocross rider who has busted his ass all season to try and get on the team...that's the way Stewart pretty much put it.

As for your call on the fastest riders in the world...JS, RV, MA, RD ?????? the only person i'll agree with is Villopoto. Dungey is currently getting beaten a frenchman, Mike Alessi has never won a title in his Pro career and Stewart sits at home. Maybe you should try and choose riders that actually ride.

What we're trying to say in here titan is that your C team is actually your A team you just dont know it yet.

The reason an australian is winning your series is because your A riders cant keep it on 2 wheels then ?.....makes sense. Getting injured doesn't get you the number 1 plate.

In all honesty titan, i think Villopoto would have killed everybody in that 450 class this year. As for Mike Alessi....i have to say i don't believe the hype...he won at hangtown and now he's being placed in the top 4 riders in the world ? When he actually wins something, then you can come back on here and call him 1 of the best in the world.

OK.... Dungey is not faster than Pourcel. They are very much on the same level but i think Pourcel edges it for me because of the way he rode this past weekend. Your probably going to come and say how Dungey killed Pourcel at Millville but lets not forget that Dungey has rode that track his whole life. Consistency wins titles...not speed, ask Austin Stroupe about this years supercross and he'll be able to explain that 1 for you.

USA chances are 50/50 which is better than most other teams...normally they would be 90% probability with the 'A ' Team. This year is going to be more exciting than ever......

Sorry Titan... i don't agree with you.

James is not riding because he does not want to ride. I can't understand why you guys even want James to ride for you country. He is not even riding the outdoors, he is not entertaining us, he just sits at home with his butt on his money. I would not even want him to ride for my country.
Same goes for RC. He was a fantastic rider but he decided to retire from the sport. If he wants to retire, let him and let guys ride the mxdn that actually ride mx.

As for the injury's. Well.. i agree with Joe101UK. They got injured because they made mistakes, because they crashed. You can't say now that those other guys are not as good as they are. Those other guys still are riding and are, in the AMA standings, in front of those injured riders. In my eyes that makes them better riders... at this moment in time that is.

Stop looking for excuses Titan. Roger de Coster made sure that the USA will be sending the best team possible to the mx of nations. If you loose then the country that, in your words, produces the best riders in the world bites the dust. And it is not your C team, or your B team... it's your A team. At this moment you simply can't send a better team.
Besides.. why look for excuses ? You still have got a good chance of winning...

HE HE....

I never called IT the fastest 450 rider in the world...he was in the zone on that day and benefited from some misfortune of otheres. End of story.

Roger CAN (and should have) chosen a supercross rider. He's still the best motocross rider in the world.

MA hasn't won a pro title because he's been racing RV, JS, RC, CR his entire career.

Dungey is getting beat by a frenchmen in the points because of inconsistency on his part, not because of speed.

And so, as I clearly and irrefutably just illustrated, this really is our C team.

You are free to disagree with me all you want...so long as your comfortable being wrong. It's up to you.

I want James to ride for my country because he's the best... I dont' give a damn that he isnt' racing the nationals...he's the reigning national champ, and he's the best, put him on the team. And shame on Roger if he didn't ask him to go. And if Roger asked and James (or his team) said no, then shame on them.

I don't want RC on the team, he's retired.

You're entire second paragraph is largest piece of turd ever...please tell me you didn't write that with a straight face???

Roger is sending the best team available...but it certainly isn't our best team (assuming everyone is healthy).

It's a C team...no two ways around that. Not even one way around that...it's our C team.

And if we win (or even podium), which I don't think is likely, it will be a huge frikkin' beotch slap to the rest of the world. (which I will certainly enjoy)...

Which brings me to my next point, which is about why you guys are insisting its an A team. If they win, and you guys acknowledge that they are a weak team, then you'll be acknowledging that the rest of the world is even weaker...and you all don't want to do that. I'm on to you.

The team is certainly second rank (B or C team, which ever you prefer) in terms of US riders, but remember, we're staking them up against the world. While it may not mean much, both Swanpeol and DeSalle did not win and they attested to the caliber of our riders. Even Tyla Rattray has not won yet and he's the most recent MX2 world champion.

Dungey is naturally talented on the 450 and I don't think it's going to be a big deal for him. Obviously it creates a conflict because he's still fighting for a 250 title, but in the end, he's going to be a top-5-or-10 rider.

Remember when Antonio Cairoli first hopped on a mostly stock YZ450F at the British GP two years back? Yeah, he swept both motos. And if you ask me, Dungey is almost on the same level as Cairoli.

Regardless of who we have for riders, we do have one weapon no one else has; Roger DeCoster. Sure, he's only going to have a short time with the riders, but he knows how to get the best out of his riders. The fact he's been working with Dungey for over two years will keep him calm and quick. No else can say they have such an asset.

Personally, I think this team will make this the best MXdN in several years because we aren't bringing the bonzai-fast big guns. It will make an interesting story line and certainly may make it that much sweeter if the US can beat the stacked Aussie team.

If we ride SMART then we have a decent shot at taking the trophy home. But so do several other teams. This is the MXDN and a lot of strange stuff happens ... riders tangle and go down, bikes break or flat out, some don't even get to the line on time and get DQ'd. Riding smart and staying out of trouble is just as important as pure speed.

Asking Dungey to beat Reed is asking an awful lot of a young MXDN rookie who has had to jump up to a new bike and class. Fortunately he doesn't have to as good, consistent finishes will do the job. IT may not get the respect from some of you but he's been there and his experience is most valuable. Weimer should also be able to post decent results.

They all deserve props for going. It's a new and different form of pressure for the guys that have never ridden the event.

Australia (2nd favourites maybe? tho really the US team is as strong)
In 2006 it was all about the Stefan Everts show.
It was a shame RC wasn't capable of racing that day.
Stefan was so on his game that day, that I think him & RC would have had the battle of their life. James just sorta backed down from Stefan in that second moto for the most part to secure the win for the team.It did not seem Stefan liked that to much.
Yes you are correct, the Euros rode great that day and if it was Europe riders vs American riders, the euros would have been on the top of the box on that day.

I think this year we are probably gonna see the Reed show.
Chad is riding great and with that track having SX sections , Dungey & AC will have their work cut out for them.Starts will be critical as they always are in any race.
But at the end of the day I think the USA can get the job done if Jake & Ryan each have to solid motos with no mistakes and Ivan has one good moto.

Dungey will be out front no problemo he is one of those riders that can be on any bike he'll be up front. I think he will win his category if Cairoli is riding the Open category.

All three US riders are top quality riders and apart from Oz and Italy they should do fine. But remember the MXDN is full of surprise. One crash, bad settings or a bad start and the race is wide open. I think Dungey might have a bit of problem with the pressure of being #1, weimer will doubt himself against all the unknown riders and they both have to learn about racing abroad. Tedesco unless he picks himself up in the last rounds will do just OK.

My call:

Dungey will be upfront but Cairoli will have him covered but yet again AC might crash pushing too hard in front of the tifosi!
Weimer might crash trying too hard as well. Musquin who's full of confidence at the moment will win.
Tedesco nothing flashy but will be a solid rider.

We always expect that we have the "best" team. That's dangerous thinking in any sport where people get too over-confident. It sets us up for looking like idiots.

Look at the weaknesses we have and see how they measure up to Belgium, Italy, Australia, and France.

my opinion, which means a lot, is that wer'e going to get our fuckin' asses handed to us at the 2009 MXoN.

...carry on ladies.

As it is a surpercross track Reed could win MX1 but I will still go for AC - I think Musquin should win MX2 but Roczen or Weimer won't be away, although Guaneri Searle and Metcaffe could be in their too... MX3 should be Phillipearts but supercross maybe isn't his strong point Paulin could take that class ... actually Ramon and Desalle won't be far away from either win either.... it is hard to predict. The only way the US and OZ go one two is if it is full on supercross and the Italiens have crashes... right now il pick Italy - if they dont crack and Guaneri riders good they win. US 2nd - always there as good as OZ Belgium 3rd- always ther and better team than last year Australia 4th - could win but 4th becaue always have a problem somewhere! France- tough one - they could be 5th or could win it all depends how Paulin and Aubin adapt to the 450s- much like Dungey... crap then there is Germany too woth NAgl Roczen and Schiffer all capabel of top 5/ top 3 that is 6 teams that could win.... I cancel any predictions it is too hard! Shocked

You should have more confidence in your riders. I really can't understand why you think you won't even podium. Every team, besides australia and Italy has injured riders so every team, besides the 2 mentioned before, is there with a B or a C team as you call it. I don't see it that way. The 3 best riders of each country are going. The others are injured or retired so according to me every country is there with its A team. There is not 1 country that can put forward 3 champions. Australia's weakest link is Byrne. And i'm not sure about Metcalfe either. He never raced in Europe and when i saw him back in 2006 in Matterly Basin he was nowhere near Villopoto and the top euro riders. It looked like he had a hard time adapting to the european track. Italy has 2 champions but its 3rd rider, Davide Guarneri, is not so famous as the other 2. he will be Italy's weakest link. And so every country has a weak link. And to me it looks that the weakest link of team USA still is one of the strongest of all weak links out there. I will be surprised if team USA won't be on the podium. Dungey and Tedesco are 2 very good riders and Weimer still is young but he know how to twist the throttle as well. They are still in the running for a victory imo.
That's why i think that it is lame that some of you are allready looking for excuses. You still have one hell of a team. Stop looking for excuses even before the race has started. You guys always said that team USA would win the mx of nations with a B team. Here is your chance... Stop whining and root for the USA

This debate is so tired and ridiculous. ROTW vs USA? When the US team finishes in the first to third range all three motos, I think that puts an end to that debate. Yes you score based on country, but our guys are finishing ahead of "The Rest of the World." That's the beauty of racing.

And one of them was riding a 250F and beat every 450 rider in attendance...

I like how this thread is forming. It's like "If we loose, we did it because of C-team", if we win, you got beat by our c-team! Kind of a win-win situation huh?

The amount of BS in this thread is overwhelming, imagine AFTER the race. Wink

I'm sure USA will shine as usual, no need to worry...

Actually the ROTW strategy is this: "USA is sending it's A team, regardless of facts...so if you win it's because you're the largest country and sent your A team...if we beat you, we beat your A team, so we're better than you".

The ROTW won't call this team what it is...America's 3rd choice (or C team)...because then they will have to acknowledge that they got beat by America's 3 string line up.

Anyway...it's the same ol' stuff...the ROTW fans refusing to acknowledge that America is the premier motocross country in the world. And as a result is extremely fun to push their buttons.

But I'll be cheering like hell for Dungey, Weimer, and Tedesco...If they keep it off the ground, get good starts, and ride smart...with a few crashes, and/or bad starts from riders on a few other key countries, they could win the hole thing.

I agree USA is the premier motocross country in the world in a majority of aspects, I don't think anyone sane can argue that. You even manage to spit out a local series equal to the GP-series. But to call your team the C-team because there's an imaginary A and B team is just plain wrong! There's ALWAYS riders injured, and it's always affecting their respective countries. But so far I haven't heard ANY OTHER COUNTRIES fans moan about they not sending theirs up to pairs?

IF YOU WIN, YOU ARE THE BEST! But that doesn't contradict the fact your are the largest mx-country in the world? Or how the hell do you explain your MXDN dominance otherwise? You have the best gene stock on the planet? WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN TO WIN?

If you loose, and moan about you C-team, talk about insult to the winning team. Imagine if France beat your ass, and on top of that people started to bitch about Pourcels didn't attend.

Damn, some of you are hard to please.

There isn't "imaginary" A and B teams...there are "factual" A and B teams (truthfully there are A+, A, A- and B+, B, B- teams, but you all can't even digest "A" and "B" teams, so I'm not even going to make it any more complicated for you)...and they are unable to go because of injuries (RV, MA, JG) or they ride for a stupid team (JS). It is no secret that the team we are sending is AT BEST the third choice for USA. It's a C team.

And this is an America MX board...dominated by Americans...that is the likely reason you don't see other countries complaining about their MXdN teams on here.

And you can bet your ass, that if America wins there will be many ROTW fans (mccread being at the forefront) that will be busting out an entire list of injured riders from the ROTW, followed by a detailed list as to why the guys that did ride didn't ride to their potential (everything from "so and so crashed" to "but this guy got bad start" to "yeah, but "so and so" missed a shift on the second to last lap just before 7th breaking bump going into corner 9"). USA doesn't have a patent on "excuses", in fact, I won't even bat an eye when I say the "euro's" are better at it than we are.

I'm easy to please...just tell the ROTW fans to stop being stupid, and I'll be pleased as can be. That ain't to hard, is it?

The point is European riders are as good as the US riders and the GPs are as good as the AMA series.... there are also 5 or 6 countries that have a chance of the MXDN this year.

Ok so your 3rd choice team is:

Dungey - 2nd in points
Weimer - the next American rider behind Dungey
Tedesco - 3rd in points.....Short might of got asked but isn't he supposed to be sick at the moment...i'm not too sure.

You can't choose a better team right now.

Obviously, Villopoto and Alessi would have probably been on the team if they wernt injured but right now...you have your best riders going ( YOUR A TEAM ).

If Roger would have picked Tommy Hahn for MX1, Barcia or Tickle in MX2 and Brayton in MX3 then i'd be agreeing with you all about the B team, Cteam crap.

USA has a solid team that isnt anywhere near a C team. Calling them that is down right stupid. USA will be strong and so will Aus. It should be good, cant wait to see it.
