My son and I are down in NC for the 6th Annual Rolling Hills Classic Weekend
to do some racing and today they had the vintage race and man there were some cool bikes there. Its funny when you see these bikes because you can almost put yourself back about 30 years ago standing at the fence watching these things fly by.
The guy on the bike number 64 is Mark Barnett.,,,,,Yes the real Mark Barnett.LOL
ENJOY!!!!!

You can go to the photobucket page to see the pics at full size and they are much better. Here is the link and just click on the picure.

I think I have a couple of action shots. If I do I will post them.
The Turbo is something my son found on line. He likes them so he saved the picture. We have owned a ton of TCs though and even had one with a 302 and a 5 speed.

What year is the 490 Yammy? Anyone know for sure? I'm guessing 86?

Looks like a side port engine/ single down tube frame. I say '83. In '84, they went to center port engine/ double down tube frame on the 490 until they stopped production with the WR500. The '82 had the old style shock position with the screwy first year link type suspension.

What is the newest model year considered to be Vintage? Or is it by design, ie disc brakes, linkage, etc???

The white 490 that has #64v on the front plate is older than 86 . I agree. But I can only see the position of the shock , not the down tube or side ports vs. center ports . 84 graphics.

Man, I didn't know they were having an event for vintage bikes. I went to Devil's Ridge in Sanford, NC on Sunday and practiced on my '81 YZ250. Dammit!

1974 for AHRMA. '74 was the last year of the shorter travel suspensions. The other newer Vintage orgs, I don't know.

Thanks for the pics jleews. Cool.

Clean Maico, those CR 480's are still great bikes. Easily accessible and lotsa parts for them. Just dont plan on stopping anytime soon.

Shock under tank in '82

Side port in '82 & '83

Pipe on the left side in '82 & '83

Yellow plastic '82, '83, '84

Center port beginning in '84

Pipe on the right beginning in '84

Double downtube starting in '84

White plastic beginning in '85

Shock made its way lower and lower until it was down where it was supposed to be in '86

Judging by the position of the shock and the exhaust, my guess is '85 (or an '84 with white plastic)

Depends on the club you race with. AHRMA has the most strict class structure and rules. Local clubs generally have classes for just about anything. Our club has classes for any year bike you want to race, including a brand new 2010. The classes with the biggest turnout in our club right now are the EVO classes (1980's bikes).

Hey shithead, save your breath- you'll need it to blow up your date later. Don't go and get all asshurt Ingrown toenail, I was a couple of beers past drunk and was just funnin' with you anyway- notice that fuckin' smiley face?

I stand by my remark that it was a shitty guess- the '86 graphics said YZ on them. That bike has '84 style graphics on it.

Your the one that made the mistake not me so fuck off and die idiot. Nice one on the Ingrown toenail, that must of took you hours to think of. Now put the bottle of jack down and go play with yourself.
