Been on the mtb fence for ages now but thinking of giving it a go. Thinking of starting with a cheap hardtail (not EMTCool and see how much I get into it. Or would you say, no one is going to have fun on a cheap hardtail and I need to spend a bit more to begin with?
You don't need to spend more to have fun it's just that the fun is commensurate with the expense.

I've had a Levo for about 5 years now and it's awesome! So worth it.

Bought two Turbo Levo Comp Alloy's for the kid and I. Trails from here to Malibu, so they will get a workout. Maybe get Lars and Layton onto the weekend program.

Did you buy it during the sale and did you learn about it from this thread? It would be the coolest thing I ever did if I helped guys buy a total of 3 bikes.

Scooped up a Turbo Levo Comp Alloy ! Super pumped. Ebikes are epic for the terrain we have around here. Been looking to buy one for months.

Can anyone suggest a frame protection kit ?

The price of the Turbo Levo Comp is roughly $2000 more than an equivalent speced YT Decoy. Granted, the YT has 175 less KWh on the battery than a Levo but I just can't justify $1000 per Wh. Picking up my Decoy this weekend in San Clemente. Brap!

I really like the Decoy battery design and the fact it is removable. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they release a larger capacity battery with the same form factor.

There's photos of the 700wh battery floating around so it's only a matter of time. You're gonna love that bike

The YT bikes are a great value for the quality components you get. I really wanted one but they were near impossible to get during Covid when I bought my Specialized.

now that I’ve had the experience of having an e-bike including riding with a friend that’s on a YT, the extra battery range on the Specialized is noticeable

Can you not ride a motorcycle everyday? Look, I'd like to have one, especially for hunting public land but $6k is just ridiculous. I paid $6.4k for my motorcycle and $200 for my bicycle, granted there isn't a battery and motor but I can't see that costing $5.8k. to each their own I guess.

If you have a $200 bicycle it wouldn't last a month of riding 2 days a week on any decent mtb trail. If you are just cruising along a paved path with the wife and kids it's fine but that's not a quality bike. Besides I bought my bike used and I could sell it for as much as I paid for it so it cost me basically nothing. A guy with a $200 bike is out 200 bucks when he is done with his bike.

Add me to the list of guys that found out about the sale and bought a bike because of this thread. Thanks. I pointed it at a long hill yesterday and enjoyed it for a change.

Those that have emtbs, did you sell your standard mtb? If not, do you still ride that. I am on the fence about selling my Stumpjumper to offset the cost. On 1 hand, i hate to do that but at the same time I jyst dont think itll grt used much.

I don't know your local trails, but its safe to say that the stump jumper would never get ridden again.

My friends who have eBikes still ride their non-powered bikes.
If you can, I would keep the Stumpjumper. If you find you aren't riding it at all a year from now, then sell it.
If you do decide to sell it and it's a medium frame, let me know. I have an old Stumpjumper, and it's time for me to upgrade.

I'm not interested in an e-bike just yet.

I hear you. If I went with a Levo SL, it almost seems silly to keep the Stumpy, as the SL is basically a Stumpjumper with a smaller, lighter motor. And that's what draws me to the SL. Most of my riding would be perfect for that. However, I may want to entertain some GNCC or local AWRCS EMTB races and I think the SL would not be enough. So at that point, if I went to the full-blown Levo and kept the Stumpy, that would make sense. But just not sure if it's worth having that much money wrapped up in bicycles, when 1 or the other is gonna be sitting. My other thought was keep the Stumpjumper and grab a Yamaha YDX Moro Pro. It's significantly cheaper and sounds like a good bike that I could race etc. It's a tough call lol.

Can't wait to see what Specialized's response to the new trend of light-but-more-powerful-ride-longer eMTBs like the Trek Fuel EXe.

I rented a Turbo Levo Pro yesterday and all I can say is WOW! Kinda pissed I missed the sale but I'm not planning on buying one till spring anyways. $5600 is such a good deal for the comp alloy, super jealous of you guys that picked one up!

I'm looking at the either the Giant Reign E+ 3 or Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay Alloy 30.

I also have a YT Capra Pro Race and I intend to keep it for downhill parks only. I bought the ebike so I can keep riding throughout the winter. I absolutely hate pedaling up hill. It’s really quite stupid if you ask me. I live near some rad trail systems but you have to do a fair amount of climbing before the fun begins. Climbing with the Capra is double torture. Ebike for winter riding, normal bike for summer bike parks.

Give the ebike a go at the bike park, My ebike jumps way better than any analog bike I've ever owned. I haven't met a trail that the ebike struggled with.
Only cyclists complain about the weight of the bikes, after coming off the moto, its like nothing.

Ebikes can definitely shred and be sent

I’ve heard that from others. I still need to wheelie and manual so we’ll see how the ebike allows for that kinda fun next summer.

I hear you. I was bouncing back and forth between both bikes. They both seem to retail their value pretty well, maybe the specialized a tiny bit better resale value, but both are great bikes. Its all relative.

Holy shit these things are badass. Bike arrived Wednesday and finally got out on the local trails. Ride 12 miles just under a hr. Average heart rate was 130 for the hr. Bounced between all 3 modes but stayed in Trail most the time. I’m hooked.

Problem is now I have to buy my son something so he can tag along.

Talked about this with a group of riding buddies last year we were all talking about getting one until we looked up prices. 6-15k. Just not a chance in hell any of us were gonna pay that. It's not a we can't afford it thing it's a that's fucking insanity for a bicycle. Ww know the bike market is retardedly expensive to begin with but still. What we wondered the most is what the profit line looks like.

The price is insane right up until you ride one.

It wasn't a mountain bike but we went to the eBike store to look at a city bike for my wife. She rode away from me and the owner who were standing in the parking lot. After she turned around and headed back at us my only comment to the owner of the bike shop was "I just lost all bargaining leverage, didn't I?" Her grin was a mile wide.
Not too mention that's a lot of money to hurt yerself.
wow
