Personally I’d be shocked if he didn’t race outdoors next year. I think he wanted to wait till he wrapped up the title and that way he could pretty much ask whatever he wants money wise to come back next year.
I'd be shocked if he did race. He obviously wants to wind down his career. After 17 live or die sx rounds he's not going to want to do 24 long brutal motos. I see a lot of fans saying they think he's going to race next summer but I think they're basing that on the emotion of wanting to see him one last time

I would be surprised if anyone was correct 😂

What i want to know is what led to his decision to race SX only next year. I asked him back in 2020 how long he plans to race and he said "I don't want to put a number on it but I plan to race as long as I'm still enjoying it and still able to compete for championships. I won't keep doing it if I'm a 5th place guy"

He's on record saying he's enjoyed racing this year more than at any other point in his career and he's the defending SX/MX champion so it's safe to say his previously aforementioned criteria is satisfied.

So I have a hard time believing he told Yamaha he's not racing MX regardless of how much money the offer him. My guess is he out a really high number out there thinking if they agree great and if not, that's fine too. Yamaha likely countered and he said thanks but no thanks I'm perfectly content staying home and spending time with my family.

But that's purely conjecture since literally no one in the MX media has bothered asking him the story behind the SX only contract. One thing I've learned about ET3 is he's answer pretty much any question if asked but he's for damn sure not going to elaborate or expand beyond the specific question posed.

Lastly, you mentioned you asked him about SXMX? Link? What did he say? Is there any chance he might revisit his SX only deal? If not, is he planning to race it assuming he can qualify with SX only?

I have a hard time believing he's going to leave such a significant potential payday on the table but again, unless someone in MX media(not directed at you specifically) asks him all we're left with is speculation...
He said rather clearly to LebigUSA he wants more time for his family and that while he's having a great time at the races, they're "the easy part" and the rest of the week is a grind.

Outdoors pay little money and has all of the travel of SX. SX pays big money and is a 5 month season and done. Plus you only need to train for one discipline. A lot of guys have looked at Brayton the last 3-4 years and like how it works for them. Hence why Marv, Eli, Kenny, Cooper are all SX only next season
LOL. Saying MX pays little just because a SX championship pays more than a MX championship is idiotic.

I'd be willing to wager ET3 made 2-3x more racing outdoors this year than any of his competitors made racing SX this year.

And Marvin's only racing SX because KTM didn't give him an option to ride MX.

That’s just not true. The purse money isn’t as good as Supercross but it’s not like he is living off purse money anyway. He won over a million for the outdoor title. I wouldn’t say that is a little amount of money. For non-factory guys I would agree that purse isn’t as good.

Also, Kenny had said multiple times he doesn’t want a sx only contract. It’s like you just spew bs and think everyone is going think it’s true.

Wait, you think mx pays only 20% of what sx does? You keep doubling down on completely idiotic comments. Just stop.

Did I hear Ping say Roczen signed a SX only deal with Honda for 2023?

I still say Tomac will run the WSX next summer. They will probably pay him a million to show up. Eli better get half up front though.

Honda only offered him a sx deal but he was exploring other options that offers sx and mx. For Ken I think he should do sx only, but not for the reasons racerman is claiming.

Could we see Tomac do a Ricky Carmichael in 2007

Race a few mx races at tracks he likes but no pressure of a championship and would that then give him the opportunity to race the super motor cross event?
Yamaha and Eli run the 1 !

Makes complete sense I just wasn't aware anyone had asked him directly. Do you by chance have a link to interview referenced above?

Unfortunately, LBU is a paying site, so a link would be useless...
Tomac said again he's "out at 95%", so I guess that leaves us with 5% of hope, lol...
In all honesty, not so many greats are able to go out on top, so if he wants to enjoy life, I really can't blame him even if I'll miss seeing him on a bike.

Kenny says a lot of things...
Right now, he's taking what he has on the table, and that's an SX only deal.

When talking about leaving money on the table, remember Eli has made tonnes of money, as has had his Dad, they have the badass ranch, so his family are set and taken care of.

I know Tomac is keen for a Porsche, but he doesn't come across as a material guy does he, if he and his family are set then the value of spending time with the family and having some time for himself probably has more value than pulling in even more money.

The only thing that'll make him race is if he wants to race. At the moment, he's gone out on top Outdoors wise, so if he was leaning toward just doing SX, winning this championship probably just cements his thoughts if anything, but we'll see, who knows how it'll actually shake out.
Eli has (or had) a badass Porsche. It was for sale a year or two back

Eli has spoken publicly about the burn out factor of being a top factory pro. I'm sure he is loving not having the pressure of 2023 outdoor season. As a fan who would love to see ET3 cement his legacy with another SX and outdoor title, it's tough to say goodbye and thanks putting on an amazing show!

IF he wins SX in 2023 he may be tempted to do one more outdoor rodeo, On the other hand, it's tough to argue with leaving on your terms with the #1 plate in hand
