I'm very skeptical regarding scrapping EMX Open. There were no EMX Open in France and the gate was half empty in the MXGP race. Also this problem was a thing the years before EMX Open got introduced.

Very, very few of the EMX Open riders will participate in MXGP if they scrap the class. Maybe a handful, or at best 10 of them will race a couple of races. None of them will do a full European MXGP season.
I'm sure no rider will do an EU MXGP season.

But i think there will be a bunch of guys from that group who will do 1 to 3 wildcards at races close by home. I wouldnt be suprised to see 40 wildcards coming from this. The far away EU rounds won't benefit, but 40 wildcards at the +-10 other EU rounds would be a pretty significant increase in riders.

So KTM Group is pulling Husqvarna out of MXGP in 2023? And possibly MX2 in the coming years? And they branded Tech3 Gas Gas in MotoGP for 2023 and forward.

What is KTMs plan with the white brand for the future? Looks like more effort is being put into Gas Gas.
Husqvarna been at extreme enduro, Dakar rally and even more "cool" street bikes lately. Hard to see them just dropping whole MX/SX scene.

I'd really like to see Ben Watson on the Beta
I would hope Beta will look for someone doing more then a streak of 14th overall finishes on a factory Kawasaki.

But it seems to be the case, they are going to become the "new mobility" brand. The brand is known by a wide and varied public due to the other products Husqvarna sells like mowers, and that part of the company is in different hands if I'm not mistaken, still it will help them to sell things like: One wheel scooters, electrical bicycles, E-steps and little e-cars (an answer on the micro-car that can be driven in a lot of countries without any license or a mopped license).

Not sure what the exact plans are, but it looks like they have a hard time at the moment.

Has Marchetti even been confirmed for handling the 2023 Beta team?

I understand Ruben going to HRC is done yes. Didn't Gypsy say Evans re signed with HRC too? Hope he has a factory bike be it red or green.

HRC wouldn't have 3 bikes surely?

They don't even offer any kind of salary for replacement riders, so yeah 3 bikes ain't realistic. :D

Several sources put Evans on a Kawi.

I thought Honda would want to keep Fernandez one way or another...

Did Honda put much ($) in 114 motorsport (fernandez in mxgp and frederiksen in mx2)?
With 114 quitting, that might be money for a 3rd factory ride. Just speculating

Hunter said on the WTS that there was no pay when he was on 114 and kinda suggested it was a shitty team. So I doubt Honda puts much money into it. Although that was 5 years ago so who knows.

Asked a question on MX vice last week on how many brits would do a full MXGP season next year. Quite sad really as I think we may struggle. Hope rizzi gets a full year in as he showed some potential in last few rounds. British motocross seems to be in a poor state but when you look at what doc did at the VXDN over the weekend we have a massive fan base just really need a rider to cheer on next season. I know some have spoke about Ben in previous comments and I have to agree he hasn’t shown enough after 2 factory rides. Think it will do him good to drop to a lower team and just put in a few top 10’s as in this class if everyone is on form he’s not a top 10 guy for me.

Yamaha Motor Europe is pleased to confirm a three-rider line-up for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team in 2023. Yamaha and the team have retained title challengers Jago Geerts and Thibault Benistant for another season and are poised to welcome the recently crowned EMX250 Champion Rick Elzinga into the fray. All three riders have signed on to campaign the factory Yamaha YZ250FM in the FIM MX2

Yea Rick!

This has been under wraps for months now, glad to see he can finally let the news out.

He will be in Turkey Saturday racing MX2 for Kamea fsctory Yamaha in support of Jago Geerts title hopes.

From KTM privateer to EMX 250 champ to MX2 factory racer in 11 months, not bad…

Watson should just go the route Vlaanderen & bogers did. Get yourself a spot on a decent support team, build confidence and if he is as talented as some think the results will come in a year or two. Imo a much better spot then on a factory team where they will not be happy with an 8th place finish

It's great what Rick has done and awesome how you supported him, but its not like Rick was a nobody 11 months ago. He was 3rd overall in emx250 at that time.

Its more like from 24th in emx250 to factory yamaha in a bit over 2 years.

True, but he was third in the EMX250 class and on the brink to quite. Personally I think that that time at Brent, in the USA and just those two Nationals without pressure gave him another outlook towards the sport. That it made him look towards his career and injuries like: "You can work 110% for your sport, but some things aren't in my hands and the only think I can do is enjoy what I'm doing". He looked at the same time very focused but also relaxed in the races. Maybe he would've made that step without his USA trip, dunno. But it has probably been a boost of confidence too, racing a pretty much a stock engine, "screwing up with the fuel" in the first national but coming back and taking almost 20 points! Without heat preparation or something. I'm also very happy that he asked Brent to come and celebrate his championship, that shows what kind of guy Rick is!

I wish Rick good result in Turkey. It would be sweet seeing transformation from chugging VP fuel under tent in cali to chug champagne under the factory yamaha awning in 12 months. Grinning

Will be interesting to see what the next guy does on that bike.

Watson will go well on a Yamaha that he can work with.

The story I've heard has two options: BETA ends his MXGP racing adventure for atleast one maybe two years. Because their original idea from a bike without electronics went down the drain and now they are getting all the up to date electronics on the bike from GET. But that isn't a 1-2-3 job. Also the devolpment goes slow because their are more people that want to shine than needed...

Second option, Marchetti gets BETA Factory team and they are going to work with Lupino and some other rider from race to race. Getting the bike better and better and when you make a wrong turn, they know it immediately because you're competing against factory teams and some very good private teams.

At the moment Marchetti isn't announced yet as next BETA factory team but that can be because of KTM his contracts. They are balls tight, because other teams and riders have news too but need to wait till the contract with Austria is done.

What about Jan Pancar? He has been the suprise off the MX2 class. Will he land a decent spot? If I’m right he only got 1 year left in MX2.

I’m guessing Beaton is out at F&H? He has been pretty disappointing in MXGP, with him not going to Turkey and Van Drunen talking about she is excited to start riding with Horgmo.

Pancar has been good and I'm sure he'll get picked. But I think he's always done his own privateer thing so maybe he's happy like that.

As for Beaton, he had a great start to the season but then got injured. Would be good to see him stay in MXGP but maybe he'll have to get a Guillod style deal. Race a national series for a smaller team and race a handful of GPs.

I think they said that JWR was going after Beaton on the MXVice show. Shame he got injured at the start of the year, if he kept up his Matterley form then he might've ended up with a factory ride

Pancar rode for Racestore in '20 and '21, so he didnt do things the privateer way allways.

I would think he would be a nice rider for Martens or Riley racing. He has budget (otherwise you can't do a season MX2 as a privateer) and actually has been pretty fast with a bunch of time practices in top 10.
