I've been picking at this for a few years.
This winter I will take it down to the frame and paint the frame and related
Everything else is done, less the bottom end - have not decided if I'm going after that as the rod is solid.

really nice. love the original graphics. I went nuts with my 95 too. do yourself a favor and have the frame powder coated. with all the prep work and if you paint it right (no fucking rattle cans) the powder coat ends up about the same cost and is 27 times more durable.

I painted mine the 1st time I restored it and had it powder coated this 2nd time many years later. it's like glass. no regrets.

Powder Coating is the plan. I have new original graphics form Fusion set aside. Need to find a NOS seat/cover-foam. New plastic is also set aside.

It's being ridden as I work on it - it will never be a garage queen, but also not a weekly racer.

the stock purple plastic was set aside on this one and 95 RM250 forks slapped on for fun by my buddy that bought it from me. Like

My boss just picked up a 96 for his son to race some vintage stuff. Last gen steel frame Hondas are probably my favorite bike, haven’t got the chance to ride a 250 but played on a friends 125 and I felt just as fast and capable on it as I did my KTM.

Theyre great bikes. My dad and i have restored a half dozen or so of them.
Currently we both have 96 250's with mine being little more ratty cause i ride and race it frequently.
His current 96 he just did up kinda like a 94 Honda of Troy bike with 94 side pannels and blk tank
The 96 46mm forks are pretty decent but gonna be fitting a set of 01 250 twin chambers on with a newer master

The 95/96 era CR250 is still one of the best motocross bikes ever made, in my opinion. Would love to have another 96.

Just sold our '96 to a kid for $900. $300 more than I paid for it in 2004 lmao. Thing was clapped out big time.

Looking forward to seeing the end result! Could you give us some more info on the aluminium tank/subframe - who fabricated them, and what’s your opinion of the overall fit and finish? I stupidly sold my mostly unrestored 250 a few years ago in a moment of frustration after tweaking my ACL, but still have a 125 I’ve always wanted to fit with an aluminium tank

The parts came from Italy and in my experience Italians are craftsman. I have yet to fit them, however I've scrutinized them closely and they appear to be good. My bike is prepared for next weekend at Washougal for the 125Dreamrace (250 class) I'm also taking my 1973 125 CZ.

Holy hot damn!! First off Tim....looks like an awesome project. Where the heck did you find that aluminum tank? I have never seen one for sale for an older Honda. If I ever get back on my bikes again ( which are collecting dust ) , hope to see you at the track with that thing!

And props to you other dudes with these builds. The 93' - 96' Honda's have always been one of my favorite bikes ever! I was a Kawi guy back then , and bled green.......and shook my head whenever I spun some laps on my buddies CR's. Such awesome bikes.

Jeff..... The tank and sub frame came from Italy. I'll be at the 125 Dream Race this weekend with the 250 in the slow 250 class and I'll also have my 1973 CZ 125 for the show and shine Saturday and then race it in the slow 125 class.
