Im neutral on it right now as far as the story brennan has told being i haven't heard from Yamaha or star yet. But that being said he should have the star 250 in his garage. It was a rule that he read up on and used to his advantage. Imo its going to come down to how star and Yamaha answer the questions that are asked of them by the media. I see ml512 is trying to get them, and so is matthes.

a. All motorcycles must be fitted with a transmission as catalogued and sold by the manufacturer of the motorcycle in question.
I have never heard of that rule. I also have no doubt that Deegans bike had a factory transmission in it.
So… if that is truly a rule for amateur racing, I retract my statement on him cheating. Of course we will never know if it in fact had the factory transmission in it, but I would not doubt it was close to the same package as the Star team runs.

My son had a Suzuki support ride in 2006 and 2007 and when we raced Loretta’s in the A class, I had a $30K+ bike that we raced. I never considered losing it to a claiming rule, but I did know it existed. Chatfield got Alessi’s super mini a few years earlier, so we all knew the consequences. Suzuki would have lost their bike, but I had a lot of my money in the bike as well

The Deegans have gone out of their way to mention on multiple occasions that Haiden is not allowed a pro spec bike (per team rules) and would not get one until he went A class. The different color fenders signify which is which. Haiden himself has shown frustration at having to wait.

The amateur spec Star bikes are essentially GYTR bikes.

If they were running factory motors, man oh man, it just makes them look like outright liars. It would make me question everything about Brian Deegan’s whole super-dad schtick.

I’ve never had a problem admitting when I’m wrong.

That is a big risk for Star and I’d imagine that’s why Brian was so involved with the whole deal. It wasn’t about the bike, but about the disqualification that could ensue or at least tarnish his win

Heads roll when a mfg gets associated with cheating. The Japs do not fuck around in that department.

Two really interesting perspectives. You would imagine if works transmissions aren't allowed, it might not matter since a protest tear down would just he pull the cylinder and measure bore and stroke?

This might explain why they went so far in not letting the bike go??

The Yamaha guy's threat was essentially black mail.. they could have been better sports and offered to give him the bike at the end of the season or some sort of concession if they didn't want it claimed so badly. Instead they just tried to walk all over the kid.. the rules are the rules and factory motors should not be running in amateur races in the first place.

Honestly, after seeing the transmission rule, I have my doubts on that. We will never know

Didn’t read the 14 pages but a claim is a claim. The kid shouldn’t have to explain why he wants to claim it, the rules are the rules. If he has the money, it’s his. Who cares if the engine builder wants to look at the motor, if it’s that top secret, don’t run that bike at a race with that rule. Seems pretty straight forward to me.
It is that straight forward. The AMA wrote the rule, the kid took advantage of the rule, and the AMA should have enforced it. Instead they allowed a representative of the race promoter and the riders father pull the kid into a private room for 5/30 minutes to not intimidate him into dropping the claim that he legally made.

And after he definitely wasn't coerced into dropping the legal claim, people are trying to make the kid look bad to justify actions that should have never occurred.

It's shady as hell.

Tear downs can check anything on the bike. From shaved down PW50 reeds that open more than stock to different ration transmissions that have been tumbled and WPC coated on a YZ250F. They'll check it all if you pay the fees.

In my experience, trying to defend yourself from the online mob is pretty fruitless. I've known situations where the right party tried defending themselves publicly, and it only made the situation worse. In hindsight they're better off never saying a word because even the most articulate defense never changes a thing about the outcome nor sways a single person's opinion. The online mob is fickle.

So for that reason, whenever I see one party go silent, I do not automatically assume they are guilty. Sometimes people just realize that the court of public opinion is like a busted tube of toothpaste. The truth becomes pretty irrelevant real fast in matters like these.

And no I do not think Im questioning the wrong player. I think all players need to be questioned before a judgement is made. I know enough people "in the know" that I can ask certain questions about the Deegan's side of this. And trust me Im asking those questions. Whereas I know very little about the Brennan kid. As I said in another thread, he comes across about as credible as one could possibly look. But if there are significant details being left out then I think it's worth looking into.

I do find it odd that he plays this off like he's just a random racer executing a rule. He's not. He's a longtime rival of Haiden Deegan. This wasnt just to ride a factory bike. It was one last way of annoying a fellow rival before that kid went off to the pros to have a long career. All is fair in love and war so I dont really hold it against Brennan if this was some busch league stunt just to needle a rival - but if that was indeed the case, I think it's a relevant part of the story. It makes this whole deal much less criminal and more of just your typical mini racer family back-and-forth drama.

Does that absolve Yamaha if Yamaha was in the wrong? No, not at all.

ThT makes him a long time rival? Lol he admitted he isn’t in deegans league, did you watch the interview? I could go to pala and accidentally take out Rox zen but I’d hardly be he’s rival because of it. So he had one racing incident in his life with Deegan and they’re now rivals lol 😂

What risk?! These days, cheating is admired.

Star's engines are SCI Classified (as far as amateur racing goes), but SOMEHOW ended up at Loretta Lynn's...

They’ll also turn the other cheek if you pay the fees.

I cant be the only one that’s heard of zip tying a few c-notes to the spark plug wire.

IMO the problem is and always has been the AMA. They are as lazy as they are incompetent. Racers are inherently supposed t push the envelope. The sanctioning body is there to protect the integrity of the sport. Not hard to see who continually mismanages their duty.

I think you meant to quote Bruce ?

When we were racing, there were STOCK classes and MOD classes. The limited classes seem to have replaced the STOCK classes.
I know in the stock classes, there were very few things that could not be altered/ added. Nico Izzy was protested at Whitney for illegal fork springs. LaMays dad borrowed cash from me to protest them, we were all on the same team. Suzuki was not real happy about it, but Nico’s bike was illegal. Suzuki did not offer OEM springs light enough for Nico, so they went aftermarket and Ben’s dad (RIP) knew it. Things got heated… lol

Not sure what you are trying to convey, but the “risk” of getting their race bike claimed is what I was referring to. I don’t know anyone that admires a cheater, but that’s a whole different conversation.

He's still skirting the fact that MXSports got involved and allowed thus to happen when it was an AMA matter. They aren't any better than what Deegan and Star did in this situation.
I don't think he is skirting anything. I would suggest waiting for his show Monday night. In my opinion, the largest issue is Tim Cotter and Deegan being involved in any way. Cotter is the promoter and should have ZERO to do with a bike claiming, that is up to the AMA. Deegan is not the owner of the bike, so should also have ZERO to do with it, Star owns the bike. How those two ended up with a minor behind closed doors is beyond me and Cotter is who should be accountable.

I, along with every other person commenting on here, have no idea exactly what happened. Doesn't matter. Deagan could have been running a 2 speed transmission and a supercharger under the plastics on his bike. He wouldn't know, and he didn't build the bike. Yet everyone is ready to hang him up by his toes until someone confesses that they cheated. You won't ever know for certain what happened. It will always be, he did/said this or that, on both sides.

What I find hilarious in all of this, are the people saying that they were going to buy a new Yamaha, and now they will never buy one again, no matter how good the bikes are. As if the thousands of employees, riders, testers, mechanics, sales reps, sales people, management (so on and so on) all stood in the room with whoever was there and in a concert voice berated the kid until he took back the claim. Yamaha as a whole is CLEARLY evil and should be dealt with. Lol

What a bunch of do-gooder hacks you are. Hopefully you sleep better after making that ground breaking decision.....

I think I'll go cut off my nose to spite my face.

As we all know, there is 3 sides to every story….
But it really does sound like a group of industry guys intimidated this kid, and worst of all blackmailed the kid with the threat of essentially destroying his sponsors business and livelihood.

At very least, the AMA need to do a proper investigation into what happened at LL.

If they did blackmail the kid, they are pretty shitty humans.

Weege or someone in the moto journo industry needs to point blank ask Cotter if he and Brian Deegan pulled Brennan into a separate room, just the three of them and had "a discussion". Ask him if the kids father was present during the discussion (assuming it did happen). Ask him if he and Deegan did in fact do that. Confirm it or deny it, point blank.

Lets see if they can corroborate parts of the story.

I don't think anyone is arguing that happened. The kids Dad doesn't seem to have played a part of any of this, which to me is strange. Weege'e explanation could have been more clear in the video above.

From the sounds of it Weege already knows. He didn’t exactly detail it regarding Cotter tho.

What i did learn from that video is that Cotter did speak to the kid. That is an established fact now imo.

But it seems Cotter spoke to Brennan twice. The second time to make sure the kid wasnt going to implicate him for the claim drop.

Weege is also laying out the theory that the dealership got involved. But did so on their own accord.

Sounds like Star is going on the record with the claim that the bike wasnt a GYTR engine. Interesting.

I think Weege was being honest about what he thinks he knows. But I’d also imagine he’s gonna have a hard time getting the truth outta people. He’s “media” as far as teams are concerned.
