Does Jett get enough respect?

Seems like there's an undercurrent of posters who get miffed when people bring up how good Jett is or might become, like he doesn't deserve to be compared to the greats. Or maybe they think people are over-hyping him. I don't recall this happening with Tomac or Villopoto or even guys like Forkner or AC. What do you guys think?

I think the hype originated a little earlier than warranted and it annoyed a few. The early sx days when one of the kids was ramming donuts awkwardly down a bit reporters throat and they were being touted as “generational” when they hadn’t done anything to warrant that label yet.

I’m pretty sure the last 4-6 months have earned the hype now tho. But haters gon hate.

You don’t remember it with those guys cause it wasn’t important then and isn’t important now.

So far, he absolutely deserves to be talked about as much as he is. I THINK this will all transfer to the 450, but until it does I think the generational talk should slow down a bit.
He is absolutely on a path few have been on, but man that jump to the 450 has bit more guys than it has elevated. His style seems like it will fit the 450, but we've said that about other guys too.
I hope it does, because if it doesn't it may be the Chase Sexton show for a while....

You could see it from day one if you were paying attention.

RV and Jett have a very similar path and direction. When you look at RV, he didnt have that much hype coming in due to Alessi etc.. And than Hit Pro's and has done the same as what Jett is doing now. Than you look at projectory and riders poiting out when 450 time does come... I see it as the same as Jett. Being so young and already have the speed and race managment skills. Then look at who will be in the 450 class as jett goes Pro... I just see it being Sexton and Jett up front.
AC had so much hype coming in to the 250 class. going pro at 17 and then winning his 1st sx race. I dare say if AC stayed healthy we would of had the same conversations about AC as we are about Jett.

End of the day.. Jetts wining titles an come in at 16... We are only seeing him get better and more consistent.
450 class will be exciting.

Exactly. He was a badass indoors and outdoors on that Star 250. Then he went to FACTORY YAMAHA and fell off, I wonder how he would have done if Star had a 450 program for him to start his 450 career on instead of riding for the factory? He was a different rider when he got to KTM and then they changed the bike this year which he obviously isn't a fan of. Their is a reason he is sitting out the Nationals and has a SX only contract for next year. Look how happy Eli is now that he got away from Factory Kawi who wouldn't let him set the bike up the way he wanted.

This! Totally this!

Too much hype too soon.

Now he’s earning it, which is brilliant and deserved.

Webb is a badass but the difference is
Webb won his 1st national championship 2 months b4 his 21st birthday.
Jett won his 1st national championship 1 month after his 18th birthday.
The difference is about 2 years 9month.

I think a lot of the hype came from just how fast he has been progressing, it quickly went from, "he'll turn pro after lorettas next year" to "we let him ride the SX track and he's good enough to go pro already", and now in his 3rd year he's riding like a seasoned vet with the way he lets the races come to him.

I remember seeing him at St Louis in 2020 and commenting how smooth he was for a rookie already.

The people who don't like Jett and think he's over hyped bla bla bla are a certain type of Americans who hate that he's foreign and beats all the Americans. Plain and simple. Same thing happened to Marv, he got heaps of hate when he went toe to toe with Tomac a few years ago for a SX title, Ferrandis had people hanging over the fence flipping him off when he was winning outdoors...... Americans love foreigners until they start winning. These are the same group of people who say MXoN is pointless because USA are not winning it every year.

Note I didn't say all Americans because Its not everyone, but a select group who just want to see Americans winning 24 7.

He is super impressive. I wouldn't put him with Bubba, RC, Pastrana, or even Windham because they all did it on 2 strokes. Not as easy to ride as a 4 stroke, it took alot more skill to ride a 2 stroke fast. He is an amazing rider by all means and will win a shat load of of races during his career. But the guys I mention above did it on a bike that wasn't so easy to ride. Google Bubba at I think Budds Creek? When he got dropped in the first turn and proceeded to come from last on his KX125 against a field of 250fs. Yes they weren't the same 250fs of today, but he passed everyone of them...but again Bubba was a once in a lifetime rider.
Or ask Chad Reed about how he could beat Bubba if he got a start. Bubba was leading at Unadilla and saw Reed in second and literally dropped anchor, Art and Bailey thought his bike was done. Bubba let Reed on his 250f pass him and then proceeded to smoke him 4 turns later. That's talent. Oh yeah before all the Reed lovers jump in saying he was hurt, he was still able to run in second after Bubba took his manhood.

The guy shows up, has a good time, lines up, kicks everyone's ass, has a good time, goes home, trains, repeat.
And somewhere in there cashes a check.

Gives zero F's about those he will never please.

I think the heartburn for some of us was the media overhyping the kid. It was turning me off for sure. Jett's racing will do the talking so much better over time rather than the moto media going wild before he had really accomplished much.

Personally I always like an underdog.. so I pull for hunter more.
Jett has been so rammed down our throats for a while now and it gets annoying.
Does he deserve the hype? Absolutely, doesn’t mean it isn’t annoying. Some races there are amazing battles going on and we just watch jett turning laps instead.

Bottom line for me.

Fan of Jett. Undeniable and incredible talent.

....but it's like the song they're playing to death on the radio. You just get burned out on it all after a while.

IMO (means its an opinion, I'm not the end all be all) he does NOT deserve to be talked about as one of the greats. That's not saying he can't get there. This kid, up to this point has been pretty damn great, but how many times have we seen in this sport people don't bring that same "eliteness" when they move up to the premier class. Once he can start consistently winning on the 450, then we can BEGIN this discussion. Again this is my opinion, but we see it all the time these guys can't find that same dominance in the premier class. I'd love to see it though, the kid is fun to watch.

That's why it's called hype. If the hype came after he won 5 of 6 nationals then it wouldn't be hype.

Think of other sports. Its what the media feeds the fans. Kid cant help hes a bad azz on a bike. Hopefully he stays humble and grounded. I bought a ticket the 1st time i saw him ride as an amateur. Im 1st class on the Jett baby!🔥🔥

I don’t really root for him now because I guess I like it when the 250 class is a battle but I think he’ll be one of my guys in the 450s since tomac is moving on

One can only hope Jett's parents would talk him off the ledge if he cared about how much respect he gets from fan boys.

No matter what anybody does in life, there will always be somebody who will vehemently argue against it. The psychology behind a motocross racer allowing some fan boys subjective opinion affecting his sense of self would lead to a very empty life as that racer ages
