Reminds me of the story Decoster told about Suzuki finding out at the end of the season that Mcgrath’s throttle could only turn 3/4s of the way because the mechanic was distracted by his girlfriend.

Assuming Wyatt failed, that's a much a failure of management as it is Wyatt.
Yep it was a shipwreck from the start but MC still was in the hunt even after all the problems and still almost won it.

This is pretty much standard across all forms of racing I’ve ever watched. Makes sense to me when you’re chasing tenths

"We found something" is a giant WTF. They are changing settings/parts on a machine, not excavating Tutankhamun's tomb.
Well I’m not a professional racer or mechanic for a professional racer but I always thought they don’t want to be that specific when they say things like that is because they don’t want to take even the remote chance of sharing information that could potentially help their competitors. As a pro racer the other guys on the line are basically trying to take money out of your pocket. Why help them? Then there’s the mental side of the game too.

If your competition is on the same brand, they already know what the change was. If your competition is on a different brand, it’s not relevant.

Does anyone believe that a top rider couldn't transition to ANY top team and not have success? I'm referring to the bike only. Personal dynamics are much harder to adjust and overcome. Yes, there have been bikes that required a LOT of tweaking but there isn't a BAD factory bike on the gate nowadays. Every factory signer has the chance to ride the offering before signing. If they are really top tier...they know right away...I'm gonna die on this thing....and if they don't...they ain't cream.

It is more along the lines of the team, communication, and overall comfort. Eli chose Yamaha because do the suspension tech. The Yamaha has characteristics and those seem to gel with Eli as well. At the very top, it is what allows a racer to feel confident in his machine in all conditions.

Hondas are known for being a finicky bike, but if they are setup well they are amazing. Yamahas have stability and power for days. Kawi is known for being a little neutral, Ktm handles inside flat corners well and has broad smooth power. So on and so forth. In the end, the team is responsible to help the rider feel comfortable, confident, and ready to rumble. Star/Ricky have done that with Eli. Also, the scary part is I don’t think they have it perfected. Every now and then you hear comments about Eli changing things a little and reverting back to his other settings. Imagine if he had another year on the bike.

The most hilarious thing always is:

"We felt great in practice. We found something on the bike that felt very good. Then we made some changes for the first moto, but we went in the wrong direction, so I wasn't comfortable with my bike."
