AC 222 will be lead Italian at the des Nations.

What is the "best" American team? Is Kawasaki still prohibiting their riders, or are they allowed to compete on home soil?

If we agree that 3, 21 and 23 are three fastest American MX'ers, are they the "correct" three for the Olympics of MX? I think so, and Chase gets relegated to the 250.

Ok, we've seen AC in the first two rounds. Granted he's retired, not been training/practicing but he didn't forget how to ride in one year. His results are totally respectable. Last year he still ran up near the front in the GP's.

My point is...we've been told for years now that the outdoor GP specialists are just better than our series. I kinda bought into it.

When I see AC (a podium GP guy) finish where he has (hey, no disrespect...I love the guy)...I am having second thoughts about which side of the pond is really faster.

Will the question finally be answered at MXoN this year?
With no Herlings and no Febvre, the "other side of the pond" loses two of their best for the MXdN, so no questions will be answered.

Cairoli retired 6 months, Dungey retired 6 years. Dungey ahead of Cairoli in points. Pretty self explanatory.

Cairoli is turning 37 this year ffs. Imagine taking a retired 37 year old Eli Tomac on a European holiday on a foreign bike to the GPs. I'm sure he would do pretty much the same as Cairoli is doing now.

How many should he do to get your approval. Lol. Plenty riders raced mxon and plenty have turned it down. Usa,and mxgp riders,. Cant pick and choose who you get butthurt over not doing something that YOU think they should.

These threads will continue as long as he races here. There are some valid points on both side's. AC has always played the media to make it look like he’s at a “disadvantage” it’s one of the many things that has made him a legend on and off the track. He’s not doing some one off race at the end of the year when most of the guys don’t give a damn. He’s here at round 1 when everyone is hungry in a field that’s only missing two top teir outdoor riders DF and the other AC.

Most of the time the US des nations team does not consist of its best riders, so do those not count?

I wonder what Cairolis preparation for this year looks like compared to Villopoto 2015 GPs. Obviously RV was much younger so had a wider window to wick it up when the gate dropped , but he really wasn't interested in the series very much. RV had alot of problems with the bike before his crash out, I think he said it was difficult working with the team. I would put Cairoli over RV in outdoor skill so that makes up some of the age gap.

I hope Tony goes East with the series, I'm sure he would be on the podium soon.
Lets not forget RV won an overall in his third try during his GP stint! Good chance he would have won the title that year considering some top guys ended up hurt.

That's even hardly an argument, as Villopoto himself was the first of the top contenders who got hurt.

There were some comments about AC winning the title or being top 3.

I think this should be an example where both sides calm down some. AC is 37 years old and from what I understand agreed to race last minute, he likely wasn't training like crazy over the winter to be prepared to race. At the same time, I think some people need to give more credit to the AMA riders. People legit though Cairoli was going to win and thus far his best result is 45 seconds off of first. Twice he finished more than a minute back.

Had RV gone in to that season with the drive, desire and commitment, I am confident in that result... But he didn't and we got what we got.

He was fortunate he didn’t have to race the deep sand tracks.

Tony has to keep racing till Red Bud at least all tho he should race the whole series. Red Bud he can practice Thursday. Race +25,30,35 Fri on the pro track. Race Friday night then race the national then race the night track sat again. Then race the pro track again it’s a pro am. He would be 1 of the biggest American stars ever then. That would b 13 envelopes of cash. I know of a local pro that did the night racing sat night 3 classes then the national. 200 % payout Suzuki paid 400 per class also on the night track.

If you’re doing a huge whip because you want to hang up a picture of it in your garage, chances are you’re not really worried about top results

RV was 27 points down on the championship leader after three GP's, 29 points down after moto 1 in Trentino, then on his arse never to be seen again after moto 2. No chance he was winning that title. He won one moto out of eight. He was going to get worked!

Eventual champion Romain Febvre was behind RV in points going into the second moto that day and had yet to win a moto .

I love all the guys saying Tony is over here on vacation and had a week or two prep. That's not true. Tony said he wanted to podium and a multi time champ does give a shit about his results. He is not losing time to fitness but is struggling with the top riders speed and has said so. He isn't performing as well as he thought he would and you can tell that he want's to stay on and improve. Both the AMA series and GP's have super fast riders in the front. I would go as far as saying the GP's are clearly deeper after the top 10 in the open class and perhaps a bit slower in the lites class.

And it's such a bummer too... So much hope for this season.

Sexton is 1-1 and 2-2 with those 2nds both being like 1 second out of the lead. Very impressive so far.

Before the season:

"Not expecting too much, but of course I’m not going just to pull out after five laps! This is not my case. I just want to finish the races and see how it goes".

"For me there is no pressure to perform and I’m not going there with the same preparation as I would have had for a world championship but I’m taking it seriously and would be looking for good results".

"If I am top five, I would be super pumped".

You don't follow MXGP closely and apparently have also forgotten Herling's Ironman MX dominating win on a track that he'd never ridden on plus wasn't a sand track. AC is a great rider but is not the yardstick to measure MXGP riders by today.

Regarding who is faster, the question has been answered every year at the MXoN since Team's USA last win in 2011.

Why ignore the USGP results? At least those are an “every man for himself” race, rather than a team race… America’s did pretty good at those didn’t they?
