So coming up to the start of the outdoors I was hyped and looked at alot of old footage and remembered this footage from 2012 when a just turned 18 year old Herlings lapped everyone except 2nd position Jeremy van Horebeek in prime conditions.
Looking back these are no small names in the top 10.

Knowing he rode with a broken shoulder blade and KTM didn't want him to ride makes it all, even more crazier than it is. The injury worsen due to this race and he needed to forfeit for the MXON.

Lommel was 2012 though, 2013 was Germany.

Herlings also came from last to second to almost catch Cairoli in Lommel, the speed he had back then on a 250 on sand tracks was unbelievable.

Lierop is pretty darn flat...

And out of this year's championship, we have one, possibly 4, out of 19

Definitely not stadium tracks:
Matterley Basin
Mantova
Argentina
Agueda
Trentino
Kegums
Maggiora
Riola Sardo
Arroyomolinos
Ernee
Teutschenthal
Loket
Lommel
Uddevalla
St Jean D'Angely

Possible (because no one has seen them):
Finland
Indonesia
Oman

Flat:
Turkey (but still produced awesome racing last year)

Flat as not proper Sand track. Riola Sardo and Lommel are just last ones and what a race we had at Riola Sardo.

Couple things about Lommel, going off this lap chart he did come from last but he got to second on lap 6 so I think Cairoli had him covered and Herlings was on a 350 not a 250 at Lommel..

But yes the speed he had on a 250 on sand tracks was unbelievable!

Has he ever raced a 250 at des Nations?

Yea... Monumental amounts of rain. Never gets remembered though and he literally crossed the line right after Bogers.

Anyway, Herlings, Carmichael and Seewer were all badass efforts...doesnt really matter which was "better"

Not trying to knock RC, that was an insane accomplishment, but let's not pretend these are the same scenarios. He kept it upright and stayed out of trouble at a blistering pace in the mud while his main competition spent minutes being stuck in place. Still an amazing ride. But the race in question and 2015 Hangtown, where Herlings and Tomac were just hands down on an entirely different level of riding in prime conditions, is just absolutely mind blowing.

The broken shoulderblate was 2013. This was when Jeffrey was in top form. 1 week before his 1st world championship.

Lierop is flat as there are no hills.. But in race conditionals the most tough and demanding sand track in the world. Way harder than riola or lommel, because you need to keep flow there and there are 2 real 180 degree corners, the rest are 90 degree corners with bumps bigger than you can imagaine. That’s what makes lierop a way different sand track and make the real sand guys come to the top there. The difference in Laptimes are crazy!

Unreal performance..!

I remember watching that race, pretty sure he set himself up for a run on Tony and a lapper got in the way killing his momentum.

I also remember that tc' head was like something out of the exorcist with the amount he was looking behind him. Monumental ride by Herlings.

It was Toni’s team mate.

I was there that weekend, unreal to watch.

Not sure if it was the same weekend Shaun Simpson won MX1 , we went 2 years on the bounce , last minute , after having meetings here in the UK cancelled.

Great place to watch, Herlings came round past us on lap 1 of race 2 and was there and gone before anyone else was even in sight.

No butthurt here; Herlings is insanely fast. Probably the fastest ever. I'd really like to see a healthy, prime Herlings vs. a healthy, prime James Stewart in a one-moto, winner-take-all, 10-lap sprint race to end all races, though.

Say what you want about championships, overalls, etc.; those are often complicated by weather, injuries, strategy, etc. It's hard to argue about what happened in one moto, though. Two men enter, one man wins.

Then my 7-8 finishes in 125D in 04 don't look so bad now. Or my dominant 1-1 ride with 3 crashes in 1 moto... nevermind who else was on the gate Sideways
